Today's Schedule

0500 - Awake

0515/0600 - Run

0615/0800 - Repairs made. Lawn mower, wood chipper back in working order. Looks like mice might have chewed through some hoses on the Chevy in the barn. Need to tweak the tranny anyway.

0800/10:00 - Weeds cleared as per city and realtor instruction. Roof is next. Kitchen remodel? Fuck that.

10:00 - ??????

There is such a thing as too much free time.

Hope you're managing to keep yourself occupied aside from picking fights with Lannisters

It's not Facebook, but it'll do in a pinch. And now I gotta ask - who do you share brain space with? Because I thought I saw you mention a 'Maid' earlier, and the guy in my head perked right up.

Facebook? ...please don't tell me you use the Twitter too.

Brienne of Tarth, ser.

Gods, no. My minions/co-workers at the Pentagon are another matter, however.

Is that right? I'd say less of the 'ser', except the one upstairs is Your presence is very much welcomed around here. I see you've already made the acquaintance of our resident Kingslayer - be careful, good ser. He may not have a golden hand in this lifetime, but our friend knows how to use his fists.

What the man said, Tomas. Oh, and he's Barristan Selmy, just in case you were wondering. He's usually more polite when he's not off dispensing advice.

Well met, ser. I'm familiar with Ser Jaime and strange as it may
be there is some comfort to be found that he is still the same.

So not just a reincarnate but a legendary reincarnate.

The one and the same (I try and keep him from getting too much of a swelled head).

You doing much with your downtime, by the way? Because I might have something of a job offer for you, if you're interested.

I'd say I'd be happy to accept it right here and now, though I should probably ask for some details first.

I'll speak to someone about giving you more detailed intel.

In the meantime, you can ask your Caretaker to fill you in on the basic details. There's been a heck of a lot going on back home while you've been on Uncle Sam's Middle East package tour.

In a nutshell: all that stuff our mutual friend Schmidt was telling you about there being a war on? True. And we - that is, the organisation I work for - could use someone with combat experience and the ability to wield a sword. Which, I presume if Brienne is anything like mine, she's been training you with.

I'll make the call tonight.

I was never one for idle hands. If you and Ser Barristan have faith in Camelot that's enough for Brienne and I.

And I'll speak to our leader about letting you into our little club.

You know the drill - I'd hire you in a heartbeat, but we have to get the brass' okay on this one. He's no Renly or Daenarys (which may or may not be a good thing, depending on how you look at it), but he's a good sort.

Just one thing, though. If you get in, you'll likely be working closely with our resident Kingslayer. Will that be a problem?

Does he have a name or is that something I'll learn once I'm contacted?

No, sir. Though it would appear being difficult remains his and my lot in life.

No, no - that's no national secret. His name's Daniel Morgan, but I don't know if it'll be him or someone else who'll be contacting you. I got into this whole business in a different way, so I have no idea what their standard recruiting process is.

I can see that already. Would you believe me if I told you that he's less of an asshole now than in Westeros?

Please don't tell me there's a bat signal or secret handshake involved.

I can handle him, sir. There's no need for concern.

If there is, nobody told me. I know they have a recruiting department, so it's likely they'll approach you over the journals.

Just try not to bruise him too hard.

Oh - and I don't know if I've already asked you this, but how's your swordfighting skills? Believe it or not, the ability to use a broadsword does come in handy from time to time.

I'm more likely to bruise my knuckles on his fat head.

Haven't ever held one, sir. Don't have one to call my own anymore. But if you do put one in my hand I promise you I'll know how to use it.

Boy needs some sense knocked into him on occasion. Fair warning, though - Jimmy's a boxer in his day job, so he'll give as good as he gets.

Yeah. The only reason I got any practice in was because Barristan came with one and he insisted. Don't doubt it, though. Brienne's reputation precedes her. And there's plenty of swords you can use at the castle (yes, our HQ is a castle. Go figure) so you'll soon be up to date - and probably kicking my ass while you're at it.

If you don't mind me saying so, sir, but you worry too much.

Don't sell yourself short. Being able to spar with Ser Barristan is the stuff of dreams as far as Brienne is concerned.

Thank, I really appreciate this.

I get that quite a bit. Side-effect of having to deal with Starks and Lannisters on the same team, I think.

Aw shucks, kid. You're making me blush!

You might not be thanking me later. The job's just as dangerous as the military at times, but at least you won't be bored.

And brothers to boot. Don't know if I'll be able to wrap my mind around that any time soon.

Sorry, sir but thems the breaks when it comes to sharing brain space with a legend.

I've been handling live nuclear munitions for a decade. I think am incapable of living without some form of extreme stress.
