We were home that year. We had just taken a chance trip to Belgium. Harry had been fascinated by the wood shoes. We had to get two pairs; one for you and for Lily. We have...so many things we got for you two in the hopes that [...] that one time we would finally find you. We came home empty handed. We always did...

...We left carrots in the doorway that year because Harry had been told St. Nicholas had horses. We went along with it. We told him sometimes Santa Claus had horses, reindeer, or even donkeys; and it depended on the way he felt that year. We damn near forgot to have the carrots taken from the doorway before he woke.
