Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
I just wanted to give a quick shout out to all of my staff at D&B Youth Center for making both the center and the haunt such a success. So far, it's been a blast, and the turn out has been great. Thank you all for all that you do.

And a big thank you to the community as well! Thanks for coming out and supporting the youth center and the haunted house and making my dream a success. I look forward to many more years of operation in this town and many more years of making a difference. Thanks to you all, a lot of families in need continue to have food on their tables.

Speaking of which, the D&B Youth Center will be hosting a community Thanksgiving dinner this year. I'll be on the look out for volunteers to help with cooking and serving as well as open to any monetary donations to help in buying the supplies. Details will be forthcoming around the start of November, but I figured I'd give a heads up so people can start thinking about what they can or are willing to commit to in that regard.

Again, thanks for being awesome, Lakewood Shores. You all make me proud to call this town home.

I think we should talk. If you want.

Does that make you change your mind?

No, not at all. It just took me a second to put two and two together.

I'm guessing maybe your mom talked to you?

Yeah. That's what she told me too.

How do you feel about that?

I don't know. I'm not used to the idea of a man out there, who shares DNA, that could care.

I get that. I'm not used to the idea of a kid out there sharing my DNA either. Other than my nephews, I mean. They obviously share my DNA.

I'd like to know, ya know? For sure. But I'm leaving that in your hands. You're a grown up now so... Whatever you decide, I'll respect that. And you can take some time to think about it if you need to.

No, this evening's good. Maybe around like... six or something? Or is that too late? We can do earlier. Or later.

Anytime. You're doing a really good thing with this youth center, and I'm pretty sure it's going to be just Zowie and I this year for the holiday.

Thanks. I'm glad it seems to be working out. And I'm sure Zowie won't mind that much. She'll probably be glad just to have a Thanksgiving dinner that doesn't come out of a microwave.

Dinner will absolutely not be out of a microwave. We're currently working on her Halloween party though.

Hey! I tried the times she was with me on a holiday but... I'm not a very good cook. lol. Better a tv dinner than death by food poisoning.

lol No I'm not. I'm older than you are. I think. I'm about to be 35. But it's true that I never had to cook for people.

I mean when you were feeding her, not now (though yes, you're slightly older than me). If you don't have to learn something though and you really have no reason to, it's fully understandable that cooking would be one thing that would fall by the wayside.

Oh,yeah, that's true. lol. And no, I never had to learn. Though I'm sure Riley wishes I would. He's probably getting sick of diner food and takeout.

I dunno. Maybe like... half a dozen or so? It really depends on how many families sign up to say they're coming between now and then. I should have a pretty decent estimate in a couple of weeks.
