[Quadraginta quattuor]
The season of giving never ceases.


The note attached to the stuffed animal and chocolates simply says "For Leviathan" and sports the finest example of Envy's handwriting.

The bouquet of flowers sitting on the car that arrive outside Envy's humble abode is indeed a couple of days late for the romantic occasion. That and there is a 'Get Well Soon' card dangling off the car keys keychain in his letterbox. But it is Pride, and he operates on his own schedule, and if it keeps the young man guessing - well, wouldn't that be a bonus?

To Lust, nothing too overly romantic since she already has a boy-toy she's busy playing with. She receives a namecard to a fashion boutique store downtown - they make nice dresses.

Gluttony receives a book of restaurant vouchers. It probably didn't matter to him how good the food was compared to how much food was being served, but as long as he followed the dress code and tried not to eat the cutlery and crockery, he'd be fine.

If anyone was difficult to give gifts to, it was Greed. Nothing ever really satisfied him, and Pride didn't want to give him something that left him wanting more. Nothing material, then - inside the plain card is a short list of phone numbers and emails of writers, editors and photographers waiting on Mr. Manon's every word. In a world where advertisers were no longer selling products but selling lifestyles where luxuries are bare-bone essentials, nothing said success to a Sin quite like slipping into peoples' homes inside the folds of Time magazine (and GQ and Esquire and everything else) putting oneself on display and asking the one question that made God's eyebrow twitch. 'Wouldn't you like to know?'

For Sloth, the answer was obvious. Sloth receives an Omega watch. It could be a hint. It could be a joke.

Wrath receives a curious assortment. There's a few articles of never-been-worn clothing and shoes in there that came out of Pride's closet, a pair of sunglasses, a zippo, an inflatable doll that bore only a slight resemblance to the previous one. It all seems a bit disorganised...

And Infidelity - well, American Express didn't keep its Centurion Card holder waiting for very long, and inside the card addressed to her is a credit card in her name with a quarter of a million dollars loaded to spend at her leisure.
