I just realized that I've been far too quiet since my return to FCU. Who knew the first week of classes could be so incredibly taxing. What happened to the days of doing nothing but getting a syllabus and having a q&a session on the first day? I guess those days are long gone by the time you're a junior in college.

Did everyone enjoy their summer? I most certainly did. It's a shame that I can't hit rewind and go back back and do it all over again. I wouldn't change anything, of course, because it was pretty much perfect the way that it was, though I did miss my brother and, as much as I can't believe I am typing this, Max. Of course that could have just been that Zowie was all pouty and missing him which made me wish he was around so she would stop whining about it. I don't think that counts as legitimately missing someone, right?

Anyways, what's the word on productions this year? Have we set our sights on anything in particular just yet? After taking in so many shows over the Summer, I can't wait to get back on the stage again.

It pretty much was. I can't really think of anything that would have made it any better.

But family is important too, right? I saw some of mine while we were gone. Grandparents and cousins and aunts and uncles mostly.

I'm glad to hear you had a lot of fun.

Family is important. I am pretty close to my mom and I am glad to spend time with her in the summer.

I brought back souvenirs. You can have one if you fancy a snowglobe.

I hope that isn't all you did this summer. Surely there was something interesting about it, wasn't there?

You got me a souvenir? I didn't expect you to think of me at all...

Well, yeah. I went to visit my dad. There was a bit of a surprise there.

I brought back several for anyone who might possibly want one. So if you want it, one of them is yours.

Why was that a surprise?

I thought my father didn't care much about me, honestly, and it turns out he has a trust account for me. I'm really rich. Or I will be once I'm old enough. I just really didn't think I made a blimp on his radar.

Fathers can be strange. Not all men are taught how to express love that doesn't involve sex. That's just the way of the world, unfortunately.

But congrats. Does that mean you're no longer a Zeta?

I guess to just to know he knew I was alive would have been sufficient. I just found him last year and he had always known... I don't need his money. I just want, I guess, to be his son.

No. It's not accessible until I'm finished school.

Relationships between adults can be complicated. Maybe he wanted you to know that he knew, but that didn't work with what your mother wanted for you. It's hard to tell. I can only speak from experience and, in my experience, things between the adults in my life have always been complicated, even with only one parent.

Ah. Well, that's a bummer. So what do you intend to do this semester while your former Alpha is a Beta?

True. There could be things going on that I don't know about. I guess I just wish I had known. *shrugs* Doesn't matter now. Can't change things that can't be changed.

Same thing I did before. At least this time I won't broadcast that I'm a virgin... for a couple of reasons.

You sound like an alcoholic. "God grant me the serenity... Blah, blah, blah." At least you have both of your parents now. That's more than some people can ever hope to have.

I could mark you.

Oh! That's not really what I was going for but just that isn't a bad way to view things. Don't sweat over the things you can't change? Or at least it's not a bad way to try to live?

I agree. I am lucky to have both my parents. And my brother. I know that.

You would want to? I didn't think you liked me enough to want to protect me like that

I suppose not.

You have a brother also? I don't think I knew that.

It would make James happy. Well, maybe not happy since he doesn't really like me, but he would feel a bit more secure, perhaps. That would, in turn, make Zowie happy. And making Zowie happy is kind of my thing.

Yes. He is a professor here, actually, which is how all this started. Nikolaevich isn't a very common last name and he wondered.

I am not opposed to work for my protection, but may I ask what you would expect?

Ah, right. I imagine it's not a very common last name, at least not in the US.

I don't know. Maybe some cleaning every now and then. I might have you do some shopping for me once in a while. Maybe have you pick up my dry cleaning or do the laundry. And you may have to run lines with me now and then once the theater season starts.

It might be. I'll try to be nice, though. And I'm not going to stop you from seeing James or playing soccer or whatever it is that you do outside of school. I don't need you to be my boy toy, I've got my hands full already.

Drop by before you go to class in the morning and I'll put my bracelet on you. And be sure to pick me up a pumpkin spice latte from Starbucks on your way. Please and thank you.

Thank you, Tempest. I did not picture you as one of those type of Alphas.

I will be there in the morning, along with a pumpkin spice latte. Do you want a muffin or anything with it?

I'm capable, just not inclined.

Hmm. Maybe a scone if they have any. Cranberry and Orange. I don't like the other kinds.

Will do.
