Merlin. [...] I think I'll stay where it's cool.

I don't like sitting out when you all go and help the Remuses during his monthly transformation. I know my magical ability pales in comparison to yours, but I'd really like to learn how to become an animagus as well so I can be there if someone wouldn't mind helping me learn.

Heat's not so bad once you get used to it.

[Marauders]
Hi James. I'm James.

I'd be happy to help you become an animagus. Apparently I become a teacher of sorts in my future, so this'll be good practice. It's really hard though. Took me three years. Of course, I hadn't made it through school then.

Heat and I have a [...] complex relationship.

[ Marauders ]
You're new, aye? Sorry I didn't see you sneak in. I'm James Potter, world 15.

Ah, another teacher of sorts James. Thanks for the offer. True, but nothing is too hard where it's impossible, and you also didn't have all these Marauders around you.

I've been living in the woods, so a desert is a decent change of pace.

[Marauders]
Yeah, been here almost a week. Which world is 15? The pamphlet I've got doesn't have numbers. My world's not on it, but people around here have been calling it Love World, if that tells you anything.

Yeah, apparently I start a school for the kids out in the wilds once Harry gets a little older. Never saw myself as a teacher, but I can work with it.

Nothing is impossible, that's true. I wish I'd had all these versions of us around when I was trying to learn. Would have made life a lot easier.

World fifteen is the world with the Healy Games in it. I was here before the rebranding of worlds, so the numbers tend to come out before the names.

I was a mentor; it's along the lines of being a teacher if you loosely translate the word. But starting a school? Interesting. Desperate times call for desperate measures.

It comes in handy from time to time, yes.

No worries. I went to that one, the one morning I was here for pensieves. That's really harsh, mate.

It's pretty desparate. Kids, gotta learn, though.

They put us through something similar during auror training, but I don't think they intended it to be used for an occasion such as this. More for... stakeouts where you can't move for sixteen hours.

I thought about Auror training, but with the state of my world... having to go into hiding didn't really fit well with that dream. Didn't really want to be in league with that regime much anyway.

Mum and Dad took me on holiday to Egypt once before I was old enough to go to school. I remember the heat being so different than what it was back home. I liked it.

I do, don't I. Unfortunately, being an animagus takes some studying. More studying than I ever did for any schoolwork, in fact. You probably won't have to do as much as we did, since you've got all of us to help you through it, so consider yourself lucky. Even if you do, though, it's worth the effort.

I think some of our Harrys, and Hannah, might want to learn as well-- I can't imagine I haven't at least started teaching my Harry by his time-- so maybe we can make a thing of it, yeah? Marauder-family animagus lessons?

After all those years it's little wonder he rubbed off on you. No worries; I'm no stranger to studying. While I've more experience with learning by example, books aren't too bad. [...] Apparently Lily's been rubbing off on me more than I realized.

I think that sounds like a good idea. Family bonding time?

Right? Surprisingly, Remus was the first one to ever get me to study properly, for this animagus business. And he doesn't even have Lily's wicked female powers of persuasion. I think maybe he and I were always meant to be a little bit married, too.

Sounds good to me. Aside from taking the occasional hike into the desert, I've nothing much to do in this world, so we can get started whenever you like.

It doesn't surprise me that it was Remus that strong-armed you into studying. My Remus had a good way of guilt-tripping you into studying; I still haven't figured out if it was intentional or not.

I'm sticking as close to the compound as I can, so I'll be around whenever.

Oh, he didn't strong-arm me into this one. No, he was the one who had to be dragged kicking and screaming into the idea of us joining him on the full moon. But he did guilt-trip me a few times as well.

I'll come find you this afternoon, then.

I'm going to rig up some sort of shelter for shade so I can read this book James is going to lend me. Care to join me?

I'm trying to minimize my time in the heat. So far nothing's happened, thank Merlin, but I'm [...] concerned I might get forced out into the day like Epsilon did with his block.

~KING POTTER | PRINCESS CUPCAKE
If you start to feel panicky at all, you'll tell me, right? Pie seems a little more relaxed than Epsilon. I don't think it's likely that she'll do something like that. If she does, I'll just invite myself along.

Apparently he's going to lend me a text about how to become an animagus.

You'll be the first to know, cupcake. You'll be my little stowaway, even if I get shipped two days' walk from the compound?

KING POTTER | PRINCESS CUPCAKE
Really. I approached the rest of the guys to see if they'd help me learn. I don't like sitting around being useless on those days; Sirius, Peter, and myself always found ways to help Remus out during those times.

You'd do that?

What did you do for your Remus, since you couldn't change into Animagi?

I'd do just about anything for you, especially if you were panicking.

I'll tuck them in my pocket. Yes, I've noticed that. I think they look quite fetching balanced up there, and the likelihood that I'll sit on them goes down when you have them.

KING POTTER | PRINCESS CUPCAKE
We three stayed with him as long as we could before the moon rose and they turned us out. Peter would find a way into the facility as soon as the moon set and the transformation was over, and we'd bring him warm bread and chocolate from my house. It was the best we could do.

You're too good to me sometimes, princess.

That's really so lovely, James. I'm glad you were able to do something for him, I'm sure it made all the difference. My Remus told me that when I find out about him, I started making breakfast for the boys the morning after. Everyone would come and sleep over in our house. It breaks my haert that Remus has to go through all that, but I like knowing that I do something for him.

I'm as good as I can be. In case you hadn't noticed, I sort of like you.

Conditions in his part of the district were vastly different from where I lived. The bread and chocolate were, like I said, the least I could do to help out without bringing more unwanted attention to him and what I was doing. I bet you make killer breakfasts, cupcake.

You do? I might have noticed a little bit of special treatment.

I hate your world, even if it gave me you. Every time I hear something new about it, I feel like crying all over again. Poor Remus.

I do. Breakfast is my favourite meal, so I've become an expert at it. Waffles, eggs, sausages, you name it.

Yeah, sort of. I mean, it's mostly because you're so handsome.

It's all a matter of perspective. Don't cry for us; it's simply what we know life to be like. I will, however, take the special treatment from you because of it, especially if it involves waffles. I can't remember the last time I had those. Is there syrup?

I knew shedding the glasses was a good thing. I'll remember to thank that little shred of shrapnel for making me so attractive to you.

I'm at least as smart as the average Remus. I get to be a Professor one day, too. I really ought to get some practice. [...] Don't be silly, you have to walk before you can run. You've learned a few spells now, but being an Animagus is a whole new level. I'll help however I can.

I can imagine not. You've got a whole mess of us now, and maybe the addition of one more James will make it a little more bearable. I'll still sneak you chocolate like I've been doing, though. I have to continue my own ways of doing things as well.
