Personality
- + Generous: Perhaps it is because of the poverty he was raised in as a child, or perhaps it is the general spirit of equality he believes in, but Vidar is extremely generous. He knows that it will never make him the richest Strigele in the world, but who cares about that? If he has enough money to enjoy the things he loves in life, and has a bit of money left over to indulge, what is the point in money hoarding? He is the type who is not afraid to pick up the tab at the end of a large night of drinking, or even to hold feasts/parties in his house. As a result of this, it makes him very well regarded by those that work closest to him.
- + Hardworking: No matter how long Vidar might live for, and how old he might grow to be, he will be a hardworker. Raised by his mother to believe in the importance of a honest days work, he is a man who is not afraid to get his hands dirty if it is required of him. So even though he has enough money nowadays to afford to pay people to run his various businesses up North and Dockside Catch, he is often found helping out. He is a man who finds a simple peace and reward in going into a forest and cutting down his own tree to chop into firewood, or catching his own fish for dinner. Afterall, eternity is an awfully long time to live for, where is the reward in wasting it all on hedonistic pursuits?
- = Perceptive: Having lived for as long as Vidar has, it would almost be impossible for him to not be vaguely perceptive. After all, it is his senses and ability to read a room that has helped him to stay alive for quite as long as he has. Still, that does not mean he always is the smartest with the information he gleans. Sometimes he might use it for good and help a friend in need who is unable to ask for help. Sometimes, he uses it to wind up and goad one his fellow heads of houses until one of them is about ready to ring his neck, because he thinks it’s funny. It's a double-edged sword for him that has saved his neck, as much as it has gotten him in trouble over the years.
- - Ruthless: Even though Vidar might like to play the fool an awful lot, he has a ruthless streak a mile wide that runs through him. Once upon a time this was a man who happily led charge into battle armed often with nothing more than a shield in one hand, and an axe in another, cutting down enemies in his path. Just because he prefers to live a more light-hearted and fun life nowadays does not mean this side of him has gone away completely. Should you hurt him, or someone/something he cares about, he would not even blink in tearing you down. Instead of the death he might have once dealt though, Vidar is more of a fan of slow and systematic destruction of someone’s life. He much prefers sitting back and watch someones life imploding, all while drinking down a nice glass of Mead. Death would be a mercy in his eyes, and he just isn't that kind.
- - Hedonistic: When you have been alive for as long as he has, and seen as much as he has, after a few hundred years it eventually starts to become a little harder to chase that same high that might have easily come a few centuries ago. As a result of this, Vidar has a bit of a nasty habit of letting his hair down a little *to* much at times. That is not to say he is irresponsible, because ultimately, he does have businesses to head up. It just means that he also has a habit of throwing large parties that he refers to as feasts for the senses, which usually involve large elaborate banquets, with more alcohol then is reasonable.
History
- Birth: Born in the Sun Month/Sólmánuður close to the Summer Solstice, in a small house on the edge of Avaldsnes in Norway, Anders was raised largely by his mother and siblings, while his father worked as a fisherman on the boats. While a lot of the details of his childhood might be blurry now, thanks to the many years that he has under his belt, he vaguely recalls a humble, but happy childhood spent playing down by the docks with his friends, when not helping at home.
Raised firmly in the belief of doing right by your fellow man, and the importance of community, it was no shock that Anders signed up to work at the tender age of 14. What did come as a shock though, was his choice of Profession. Rather than following his father into being a fisherman, Anders who had always been obsessed with the sea and seeing new lands instead chose to sign up to be an "Explorer". - Rebirth: Rather then exploring new lands, meeting new women and of course romancing the people of those lands, his job turned out to be decidedly more....bloody then he had initially realised. While he might have been an explorer in title, in reality his job was more of a warrior, raiding new lands and bringing back things and people that might be of use his settlement. Not that he had a problem with this, of course, in fact, he found he rather had a talent for some of the...rougher elements of the role.
Unfortunately for him though, his natural talent at hand to hand combat would only get him so far, and his luck would eventually run out. While the details of the actual battle that he found himself in are still hazy to him, even now, having fought as many in his lifetime, what was not hazy was what happened on the field. Bloodied and broken, having taken an axe to the chest by his opponent, Anders had said goodbye to the world and had come to accept his journey to Valhalla. What he did not anticipate was the appearance of an old friend from the docks Oskar, dragging him from the chaos of the battlefield.
It was on that day that Anders met Aelfhun, and his life would change forever more from there. With Oskar vouching for him, Anders was offered a pact by Aelfhun, one that his friend had seemingly too taken. In exchange for an eternal pledge of loyalty to him, he would in turn spare Anders from certain death. So, desperate to see his family once more, Anders took the deal and that night his life started anew. That was not meant to be, however. Once Anders was reborn as a Strigele, he quickly realised that he would never see his family again - A New Life: As the years went on though, Anders found himself growing increasingly discontented with Aelfhun, now known as Alfred's ways. Far from the merciful man he thought his sire to once be, he increasingly over time saw a side of him that was ruthless, greedy and selfish. He saw a man that would watch his own men starve to death, while he feasted like some dictator, and it made him sick to his stomach. A feeling that finally came to a head when he saw his old friend Oskar struck down and killed for a seemingly minor infraction of the house rules.
So, on one fateful night during a gathering of powerful Strigele Sires, a small group of their children settled in a room not too far from their masters and mistresses. And it was there, in that back room in Russia where the plot was formed. A plan that for many of them would fulfil a desire to break free from their makers and forge a new path for themselves. Though, like many of his peers, he could not simply frame it that way.
Convincing Alfred that it was in his best interests that he allow him to leave Europe, and establish a foothold in the New World, his sire eventually agreed. While part of Anders believed it was simply as Alfred had grown bored of his troublesome ways and did not believe he could survive the journey. Still, it did not matter, all he cared was that he was free from his master, and so he set off with his new business partners for the new world. - Arrival in the New World to Modern Day: As some might expect from travel in those day, the journey was neither easy nor pleasurable. Anders was quite sure that if it were not for his years spent at sea as a young man, then he would have suffered quite a lot worse than he had.
Touching land finally in Roanoke, the events that followed are not a tale that Anders chooses to recall to anyone who was not there at the time. When the dust settled and the five Strigele all took off in their own direction, Anders continued up north and eventually chose to make his home in a little community that would later become Juneau, AK.
Wanting to leave his old life fully behind him, Anders Rendall was no more, and the man became Vidar Andersen, a Strigele businessman and early settler in the lands. Of course, those at the top of his house, as well as the heads of the other houses know his true identity (not that he has worked hard to hide it) but he does not like to advertise it too heavily.
Since settling in the New World, Vidar as he is now known has worked long and hard establishing himself a reputation of a businessman and playboy of sorts. When not in Mercy Cove, he can typically be found on a fishing boat off the coast of Juneau, or hiking through somewhere like Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve or Atlin/Áa Tlein Téix'i Provincial Park.
KINKS
NOTEWhile Vidar might be a relatively sexual person, this does not necessarily mean he is in town to just sleep his way through the population. He is a man who has particular tastes, and due to his nature, these can often change on a whim. As a rule of thumb, he tends to prefer those who are more "salt of the earth"/down to earth types then those who seem like high maintenance or monied individuals. At his core, he views himself as a working class boy who has done well for himself, and as a result, views these as being more "his type of person".YES
