I dunno, you have a way with it. But if you're at all interested, I'll help you anyway that I can." He was suddenly caught with the desire to leave, take her, and go absolutely anywhere. "You're welcome." The table was cutting into his chest, and his body ached for the simple pleasure of brushing his shoulder against hers. He'd never been so taken by the need to merely sit next to a woman. That had to mean something, right? "When I was younger, I'd pretend I was a mummy, stalking around the house bits of paper trailing after my limbs. But never anything beyond that. I wasn't quite into history really until I moved to Egypt. It's so much more than all of that... I dunno. Grandeur on top of history. It's special."
He wondered if he was talking too much about himself, but a small selfish part of him wanted her to know everything about him, and revelled in her encouraging smiles and bright eyes. "I got the opportunity through my father's colleague, mentioned that Gringotts was always collecting cursebreakers. With my high marks in Arithmancy and Defense, it all just fell into place, really." Sheepishly he entwined their fingers, sliding her pale digits against his tanned calloused ones. "And now I'm here." His drink was going unattended, moisture beading and slipping over the curved glass to pool in a bubbled ring against the table. "Can I ask why you volunteered for the Tournament? If not, tell me to bugger off. Just a random curiosity."
"I would live zat very much, Bill," Fleur said smiling as she gave Bill's hand a squeeze in thanks. Fleur smiled as Bill started going on about his younger self and found herself giggling softly at the idea of the man sitting across from her dressed up as a mummy. The laugher abated slightly, though she smiled easily enough as he continued his story,. "Well I am glad you are 'ere." It was absolutely ridiculous, but brilliant all at the same time. Fleur didn't mind at all hearing about Bill's life. It was real, the truth and she certainly appreciated it. Most people either expected her to go on about herself or went on about things she wasn't entirely certain was actually true. So when he did finally ask about her, Fleur hardly minded. "I thought it would be exciting," Fleur said, eyes lighting up as she remembered when she first heard about it. "Everyone was talking about it, it sounded amazing, plus zere was ze trip 'ere and ze chance to do somezing no one else 'ad." Plus, she got to see Bill, though that was not exactly something she could have known.
"I can't say that I wouldn't have done the same. It's hard to put yourself into that mindset, but the twins tried, and then- well I think that I would have been sorely tempted." He'd always been reckless, or drawn to things that seemed dangerous or were a challenge. If the Tournament had been at Hogwarts, when he had been, he very likely could have been in her place- desperately curious, toeing the age line nervously, bit of paper in hand. "I respect what you went through, it took a lot of determination and courage. I- ah, well like I just said, I respect it. That's the largest reason I wanted to grant you space. Everyone is always fawning over you for your looks, but you're very much a young woman, not just a face. A brave one, and someone who deserves as much admiration as Krum or Harry."
"The twins? Oh yes, they were funny," Fleur said, laughing softly as she remembered, a pair of white beards. She hadn't spoken to them much, but it had been entertaining at the very least. "It was thrilling, ze 'ole zing, even 'arry, wouldn't miss it though. Thank you, zats so sweet, you know I was 'oping you would - " Fleur stopped mid sentence at Bill's words finally sunk. He'd fancied her back then. Bill had been one of the only people she'd seen on her trip that hadn't vied for her attention. The fact that he didn't seem to look twice at her had been rather intriguing in it's own way, but the thought that he'd only been was trying to give her space downright brilliant. Merde, she couldn't possibly fancy him any more than she did right at that moment. Biting her lower lip, Fleur glanced up at Bill, completely dumbstruck. "I - merde"
