Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
It's hard to believe that summer is almost halfway over. Just a few short weeks until September 1st when school starts back up again. It's been very wonderful spending the summer here at mum and dad's and getting the chance to bond with Adair.

We've been playing outside a lot since the weather has been so nice. And look at this little lad go! Nine months old and he's nearly ready to walk.

[Andrew]
You still haven't come to see us yet, and Adair's been home for a month. When you finish work early one night, come and spend some time with us at the house.

[Theo]
Thanks for taking this picture of Adair the other day. It's hard to believe he's here, but here he is! Dinner sometime soon, perhaps?

I told you, you're more than welcome. Children aren't usually my forte but I can make exceptions for a friend.

Dinner, yes, but at mine? I'm not much in the mood to risk running into Zach fuckin further company this week.

I'd be happy to come have dinner at yours. My parents have already offered to watch the baby for the evening. When would you like to have dinner? Should I bring some carry out?

We can order in, Mils. If you're going to insist on spending your child free evening on a miserable sod like me then you can at least save yourself the bother.

How's Thursday work?

Thursday works. Any requests, or shall I surprise you?

Millie, I just said, you don't need to bother. Just come to mine after seven. We'll pick something together, something muggle from somewhere that delivers.

Thank you. He's been good as well. A little fussy now and again, but what baby isn't?

I wouldn't know. I was the baby of my family so I've never been around them.

Honestly, I suppose I'm just repeating what others have said. I'm an only child, so I'm assuming by what my grandmother says, really. I kind of understand teenagers, but babies are new for me.

I do apologize. Things have been mad with the Cup on and the season about to begin. I'm currently in Spain with Mara, but when we're back in England, I will certainly come for a visit. He is a handsome fellow.

I know they've been busy for you, pet. I'm not nagging, just reminding. But please do come to visit. And if you'd like to bring Mara, please feel free. She's always welcome to come visit with you.

We will, though I suspect once Mara meets Adair, she'll be impossible to get rid of. I don't use the word often, but she's still cooing over the picture. Though I suppose better that than the group of Italian boys not far from us who keep trying to catch her eye.

Perhaps it is better to coo over Adair than a group of boys. She's welcome anytime to come and play with him. He'll be with me at Hogwarts of course, but she's still welcome to come and play.

Are you doing well, pet? You seem to be enjoying your trip.

I'm sure she'll take you up on that offer when the term begins.

Last week was trying, but it's done. I am, very much. It's been well worth the expense so far.

I'm glad, Andrew. I'm happy for you.

I am serious about you needing to stop by when you come back, though. Come see us.

Oh, he is just lovely, isn't he?

It hasn't quite hit me yet that I won't be returning to Hogwarts on September 1st. I wish that I was, it feels as if it will be impossible to see him once he returns Would you mind terribly if I wrote you on occasion? Although I didn't choose Arithmancy for my apprenticeship, I'd like to keep up with it, and it was always a delight to talk with you about the subject on the rare occasions we had an opportunity.

Please feel free to call me Millicent, since you've graduated and are moving forward in your career. I'm looking forward to hearing all about your studies and decisions you make in the future; of course I wouldn't mind if you wrote to me on occasion. I'm glad you enjoyed the conversations, as I did as well. You have a unique perspective, Miss Proudfoot, and I've been challenged in what I know through you. I look forward to hearing your thoughts further.

And thank you for the compliment of Adair. He is a delightful baby, and I'm happy to be his mother.

That is one of the perks to moving on from Hogwarts, isn't it? Millicent it is, then, and please call me Val.

It's quite the compliment to hear my perspective challenged you to think more critically of what you know. That has always been my favorite part of the learning process, though pursuing that sort of dialogue in a classroom setting was always a challenge, particularly when the majority don't share that same love of learning and debate.

Oh, I can't imagine being a mother! But it's wonderful that you're giving him the opportunity for a proper upbringing. His life will be all the richer for it!
