PLAYER NAME: Amy AGE: 27 EMAIL: fatalflower@hotmail.com MESSENGER: as above TIMEZONE: GMT. CDJ: fatal_flower CHARACTER JOURNAL: idesofmarch_ PREFERRED PB: Jessica Lange http://gobad.insanejournal.com/119425.h REFERENCE: I was in 2.0! CHARACTER BASICS NAME: Augusta Cordelia Longbottom (nee Rowle) HOUSE: House Longbottom HOUSE LOYALTY: House Longbottom AGE/BIRTHDAY: OCCUPATION: Senior adviser to King Orion, and "business" owner. Augusta owns businesses up and down the country, her favourite being The Gilded Griffin, a 5-star restaurant nestled in Diagon Alley and the base of her operations. Whilst everything she does is squeaky clean on paper, Augusta has her fingers in many pies. Her network of spies spans the whole country, and a lot of Western Europe. It's delicate and often dangerous work, but if it wasn't for her, Orion would HOGWARTS HOUSE/YEARS: Gryffindor 41-48 BLOOD STATUS: Pureblood SEXUALITY: Heterosexual FAMILY: Husband: Franklin Longbottom Brother-in-law: Algernon "Algie" Longbottom Son: Frank Longbottom Daughter-in-law: Alice Longbottom Grandson: Neville Longbottom PERSONALITY TOP 5 STRENGTHS: Observant Loyal Resourceful Natural leader Strong-willed TOP 5 FLAWS: Sharp-tongued Emotionally detached Stubborn Impatient Vengeful GREATEST DESIRE/MOTIVATION: Augusta has built her nest atop a great pillar, and she would like to stay there. Maintaining her connections and forging new ones are her main priority, as well as keeping positions of power well out of the grasps of her rivals. GREATEST FEAR: The crown falling into even worse hands, i.e. the petty, snarling purists waiting in the wings. As a result, the persecution of anyone of "lesser" blood status, or those who support muggleborn rights - her family included. ROYAL AMBITION: Democracy. A change is well overdue. She doesn't believe it to be a perfect solution by any means - the system is still flawed - but absolute monarchy is outdated. Even the British muggles decided that three hundred years ago. The country needs an elected ruler; one chosen for their character and accomplishments rather than the womb they happened to crawl out of. And Augusta would be very, very happy to help put someone in that position. In the meantime, she will help Orion and his heirs maintain the throne, as long as they show respect in return... HISTORY TOP 5 DEFINING MOMENTS: Witch of the East End: Despite being born into nobility, Augusta's child was a poor one. Her parents spent most of their money trying to cling to the roaring twenties, gambling, boozing and splurging on expensive clothes - anything to hide the truth. They were bright young things and didn't have a lot of time for their daughter, who arrived unexpectedly and unwanted. So they sought a babysitter - not a nanny, the cheapest they could find that was close to their house and their various gin palaces. Ellen Argyle lived in Bethnal Green, the heart of London's East End. She was a witch, but looked after muggle children too - money was money with her. The kids of the East End were not like the kids from court, they were tough, rough and enjoyed making trouble - they would sooner start a fist fight than sit and talk to someone. However, they were loyal, family orientated and worked hard to earn money and improve their lives. The East End of the 1930's was a dirty, dangerous place but Augusta loved it. It was more her home than her real home, and she begged her parents to leave her with Ellen for weeks at a time. Augusta learnt a lot from her childhood friends and watching the so-called criminals that ran the streets. She became tough and street-smart. She finally earned her stripes when she was eight, the day she broke into a shop and stole a jar of marmalade for herself and her "brothers and sisters". Meeting a King: Augusta met Orion in their second year. Of course, she knew about him already. Who didn't know about the crown prince of Wizarding Britain? Ever the curious child, she made a point to sit near him and his band of worshippers in the library, so she could get a closer look. And what an idiot! He was guffawing with his foolish friends, making lowbrow comments and ripping up pages of books for "fun". This boy, this ridiculous boy, was going to be her king. He was somehow better than every other child at this school because of who he happened to be born to. It was absurd, and it just wouldn't stand. There's a little ditty: After graduation, Augusta returned to the East End where she found work behind a bar. She poured pints and connected with people. It was here she met Reg, a Kingpin of London's Wizarding East End. He asked her to watch and listen to everything that happened in the pub, and report back to him. She did, and always got paid for her information. After a year of service, Reg decided she could be trusted and was destined for greater things. Her connection with the Wizarding nobility was perfect, and she soon became a spy at Court. Reg hated the unfair system, and wanted democracy...or at least to be King himself. Augusta quickly learned that most men desire power, in whatever form, and it was this desire that made Reg weak. After her marriage into a Major House, she pulled some favours and soon took Reg's place. The man himself disappeared. Democracy, now: Franklin was a good, honest man and Augusta loved him dearly, but he wasn't a leader. Augusta was the real Head of House Longbottom, along with being a new businesswoman of sorts. However, she had no interest in being Queen of anything and quickly promoted the loyal amongst the ranks to share in responsibilities. One person cannot rule alone. Her web of spies became very useful to Orion, and she has been his adviser for many years, but she has ulterior motives. She knows the King better than most, she knows his strengths and more importantly his weaknesses. Whilst she doesn't wish him any real harm, per se, she believes democracy is better for the kingdom and that an example must be made. She's carefully putting all of her pieces into place. Birth of a new heir: It was a rare and peculiar feeling. The first time she held Neville in her arms shook Augusta to the core, even more than holding Frank for the first time. She adores her son, and this new baby - this new life - was made by something she adored so much. Augusta was never an affectionate mother or grandmother, at least not in the conventional sense, but there isn't anything she wouldn't so for her family. Watching her Grandson grow up made her even more determined to secure a fair and happy future for him, away from the snarling of the nobility. He deserves better than to be an heir of a Major house, tied to a ridiculous, dishonourable and outdated system. HAPPIEST MEMORY: When Neville received his Hogwarts letter. WORST MEMORY: The death of her husband. Darling, sweet Franklin. Augusta still suspects his death was foul play, primarily because it's easier than just accepting things and moving on. BIGGEST SECRET: Augusta is working against the monarchy whilst working FOR the monarchy. For every two pieces of good advice she gives Orion, she deliberately gives one piece of damaging advice and watches the result with mirth, no matter how terrible the outcome. It's all further proof that big decisions should be voted on, and benefits her cause. Also, the man's an idiot, and it's amusing to watch. WHERE ARE THEY NOW?: Adviser to the king, powerful noblewoman and business owner. DIFFERENCE FROM CANON: Her son and daughter-in-law are alive! She's a noble lady! etc. She's still a force to be reckoned with, and she still has that vulture hat. WRITING SAMPLES FIRST PERSON: So nice to see the Prophet hitting the hard news this morning. It turns out I'm a November, and my spirit animal is a water vole. I look forward to tomorrow's issue immensely. [Private] Competency is such a rare bird in these woods, that I appreciate it when I see it. Unfortunately, they all seem to have flown south early this year. These children are so desperately reaching for the crown on his head, but the old goat is too blinded by their flattery to see it. [Private to House Longbottom] I am just returning from a King's council meeting and thought I should give you a warning -- strictly confidential. THIRD PERSON: In game! PLOT IDEAS: Augusta wants to change the system, she wants democracy to reign and she's been working towards it for years. Until everything is *just right* , she will support Orion - or at the very least, make things very difficult for anyone with an eye on the throne.
