Out of Character Name: Amy Age: 29 Email: fatalflower@hotmail.com Messenger: kittenfeathers#3673 Timezone: GMT Desired PB: Jessica Lange Character Journal: idesofmarch_ Reference: We've met. In Character Name: Augusta Irene Longbottom, nee Sikes Age/Date of Birth: November 5th 1935 Hogwarts House/Year: Gryffindor, 1947-1954 Class: Nobility, but born a commoner Blood Status: Pureblood Occupation: Head of the DMLE Sexuality: Heterosexual Marital Status: Married to Franklin Longbottom Personality: Sharp-witted, prickly and seemingly fearless, Augusta is not somebody you want to get on the wrong side of. She has no qualms about publicly cutting you down if you piss her off, or if she thinks you're getting too big for your boots. As a noblewoman, the Head of the DMLE, and a powerful figure within the London Underworld, she believes she's untouchable. However, she cares about the little people - the voiceless and the oppressed - and is a great advocate for fairness, equality and justice. If you're on her good side, then she is unshakeably loyal and there's nothing she wouldn't do for those closest to her. Augusta is prideful and stubborn, and refuses to apologise, even if she's wrong. Her innate mistrust of the nobility (particularly the purist side) has developed into an obsession, which will likely blind her one day. Motivation: Augusta has built her nest atop a great pillar, and she would like to stay there. Maintaining her connections and forging new ones are her main priority, as well as keeping positions of power well out of the grasps of her rivals. Political Agenda:A much younger Augusta had idealistic visions of dismantling the monarchy and creating a fairer system to all magical born citizens. She still wants this, but now it's mainly because she can't stand these pampered, privileged inbred idiots and loves the idea of them being taken down a level. Boggart: Her fear is deep-set and impossible to shake. As a survivor of the London Blitz, she still has nightmares about that time. Her boggart would manifest as a functioning air raid siren - a noise that haunted her childhood, and which often preceded death and destruction. History: Witch of the East End - Augusta was born into a poor commoner family. They lived on a poor street in a poor part of London. Her father worked at the docks, and her mother worked as a filing clerk in the day and as a barmaid at night. They were a close family, and their Muggle neighbours were their best friends. They showed no interest in the goings-on of the Wizarding World - those nobles were less than background noise, they lived in a fantasy world far removed from Bethnal Green. At the age of 3 Augusta showed her first signs of magic by accidentally setting the curtains on fire at a neighbour's house. The Ministry was alerted and despite it not being anyone's fault, the family were forced to pay a fine. Her parents openly loathed the DMLE after that, a hatred Augusta inherited. Evacuation - In 1944, Augusta and her brothers were evacuated from London and sent to live in the countryside. They went to stay with a miserable wizarding family who owned a farm. The children earned their keep by working the land, milking cows, collecting eggs, waking at the crack of dawn to put sheep in the fields. It was awful, and Augusta yearned for her parents and their shabby London house where everything made sense. One evening, the Lord of the land came to pay a visit. Lord Potter was a pleasant man, but Augusta disliked him on principle. She did, however, take interest in the way her hosts bowed and fussed over him. After this meeting, she began to take notice of the Wizarding World and all its problems. Namely the King, the peerage and the Ministry. Franklin - Augusta had a choice. Marry her school sweetheart and live in quiet, familial bliss, lead a normal life, pay taxes, work two jobs like her mother used to...or she could set her sights higher. Be someone. A few women had been chasing Franklin Longbottom and the competition was fierce. But then, these were noble women, and noble women are stupid and think dancing and coy flirting is the way to hook a man. It took some scheming but Augusta managed to get an invite to a Longbottom party where she made eyes at Franklin the whole time. As the night progressed, she 'accidentally' found herself in his bedchamber, after which he was utterly in love with her. They were wed the following Spring. Motherhood - Motherhood was expected of her, and her pregnancy was cause for much celebration - much to the young woman's dismay. In truth, the paternity of Frank was a bit of a concern, however, all doubts were put to rest the moment the boy was born. He was clearly a Longbottom -- such a disappointment, and the first of many. Augusta was, and remains, a critical mother - but she says this is only because she wants her son to achieve his potential and ascend to greatness, she needs to know the family will be in safe hands after she's gone. DMLE - Augusta grew up hating authority figures; she came from a family of dishonest, deceitful individuals all of whom had numerous run-ins with the law. So then, it made perfect sense for her to join the DMLE. She took to it well, using her connections with the London Underworld to inform her cases and catch all the right people who would gain her recognition. Of course, it was tit-for-tat, and Augusta feeds just as much information back into the organised crime syndicates as she takes from them. Well, nearly as much. It took years of scheming, palm-greasing and knuckle cracking, but eventually, after the very surprising early retirement of her predecessor, Augusta ascended to the Head of Department, where she has ruled for nearly twenty-five years. Her loyalties are to the little people of the Kingdom; the commoners. She runs a very tight ship ensuring that their lives are as peaceful and as free from noble interference as possible. Family Dynamics: Her husband is a saint, and no one dare say otherwise within 50 miles of her. Her son is hopeless, and she is very critical of his decisions. This often causes arguments, but it's for his own good. She's never exactly been maternal, but there's not much she wouldn't do to ensure Frank's happiness. However, she'd never let him know that she intervened or showed any sort of concern. She thinks Frank is definitely punching above his weight with Alice. Whom she is actually rather fond of, but again, will never let it show. Her grandson is a dear, and she dotes upon him often, but he needs to be pushed to achieve his potential. [This will be revised/changed if the Longbottoms come into play, as it stands, this is the default] Happiest Memory: She'd never admit it but holding Frank for the first time. He was so sweet and small, so perfect...but then he started crying and ruined the moment. Typical Frank. Worst Memory: Being evacuated in 1944. Biggest Secret: Augusta is working against the monarchy whilst working FOR the monarchy. She loves to feed Cygnus' paranoia and craziness. It's all further proof that big decisions should be voted on, and that a leader should be elected on merit and suitability, not because of the family they were born into. Also, the man's an idiot, and it's amusing to watch. Random Facts: - Augusta owns a muggle pub in Bethnal Green, where she spends most of her Saturdays. She enjoys talking to normal people, drinking decent beer and watching muggle sports on the TV. - Aside from her husband, the only person Augusta fully trusts in Minerva McGonagall, even if they don't always see eye-to-eye. - Pre-marriage, Augusta had a rather wild time. Her former lovers have since become some of the most powerful individuals in the kingdom. She's not shy about reminding them of their former liaisons. Plot Ideas: DMLE plots. Trolling the purists. Ruffling feathers Augusta wants to change the system, she wants democracy to reign and she's been working towards it for years. She will make things as difficult as she can for the three princesses. Well, maybe not Andromeda. We'll see. Longbottom Family shenanigans. Being a dirty cop -- maybe finally getting caught or killed. Trading favours and secrets. Coming up with mildly insulting nicknames for everyone in the game. Suggestions welcome. All the things! |
