PLAYER NAME: Jon AGE: 29 EMAIL: norshallwedie@aol.com MESSENGER: norshallwedie TIMEZONE: Pacific CDJ: please_dont_ask CHARACTER JOURNAL: This one :) PREFERRED PB: Ewan McGregor REFERENCE: I'm in the game :) CHARACTER BASICS NAME:Remus Lupin HOUSE: Gryffindor HOUSE LOYALTY: Black/Potter AGE/BIRTHDAY: 10 March, 1960 OCCUPATION: Advisor to Sirius Black/Seasonal Professor at Hogwarts HOGWARTS HOUSE/YEARS: 1977 BLOOD STATUS: Half-blood MARITAL STATUS: Single SEXUALITY: Heterosexual FAMILY: Lyall Lupin (Father) and Hope Lupin (Mother. Remus was an only child, and grew up with a close relationship to his family. He picked up his love of books and quiet demeanor from his father, while his curiosity and friendly manners came from his mother's side. Sadly, both his mother and father passed away right after Remus graduated from school, leaving him the sole surviving member of the Lupin family. APPEARANCE: The first thing many might expect when they meet Remus is that he works as a librarian. With his pale features and quiet demeanor, they wouldn't be entirely off. While his body is scared from years of fighting off his lycanthropy, and attacking himself and other creatures while changed, he keeps them well hidden. Especially when he stands in court. He takes time to care for his appearance, worried that looking 'shabby' might somehow raise suspicions about his unique 'disability'. That said, Remus tends to wear well-tailored clothes, usually longer sleeves and closer collars. It also helps him carry himself with a more mature heir, which stands in contrast with his best friends, particularly Sirius, and his more laid-back demeanor. PERSONALITY TOP 5 STRENGTHS: 1. Above everything else, Remus prides himself on his intelligence. His father always taught him that the key to success is knowledge. And his love of knowledge and reading has served him well in proving himself over these many years. 2. Remus is the most patient among the Marauders, or his group of friends from Hogwarts. He thinks through his decisions carefully, and tends to have a higher tolerance for putting up with different personalities than others might. 3. His kindness is well-known, and he is famous (or maybe infamous) for sympathizing with the less-fortunate. Remus has taken a stand for many a magical creature or Muggleborn in his day, with mixed results. 4. Remus was gifted with the ability to persuade, but chooses to use this gift rarely. It is one of the reasons he has been permitted to remain an adviser in the Black's court. He does not dare step out of line unless he seems an absolute need to, but when he does, he can usually bend the necessary ear in his favor. 5. Remus is loyal to a fault. He would die for his best friends, and sometimes this has lead him into trouble. An example of this might be their time in school, when he was assigned the duty as Prefect and could never quite bring himself to get Sirius Black and James Potter in trouble despite knowing what they were doing was most definitely against the rules. TOP 5 FLAWS: 1. Alright, so to point out the most obvious; he suffers from lycanthropy. This is a difficulty that has plagued him since hew as a young boy, when Greyback targeted his family in a twisted act of vengeance. Despite growing up with this curse, Remus has gone to ample lengths to keep it a secret- and so far, only his closest friends know the truth. 2. Perhaps because of his intelligence, Remus feels a great need to weigh options and opinions. This makes him horrible at making any sort of 'split second' decision, unless it is absolutely necessary. He tends to take too long considering his options, and sometimes has missed opportunities in the past due to this flaw. 3. Like his father, Remus was almost painfully shy growing up. As an adult, he is much more likely to approach people and situations, but remains strangely awkward around those he might find attractive or somehow intimidating. Strangely, this does not tend to be people in power. He finds people with equal or higher intelligence intimidating, or those he respects highly. 4. This might go hand-in-hand with his timid nature, but Remus is not at his best in large crowds. He tends to go quiet, and sometimes he even mumbles or says something he might later regret saying. Usually nothing he might say would be considered too off color or offensive, but it can lead to rather embarrassing situations for the poor fellow. 5. He has a deep self-loathing for when he makes mistakes. This stems from his self-esteem issues as a child, when he couldn't control his changes each month. He still regrets damage to people or property he's done in the past, whether or not friends and family had 'faulted' him for it. He expects much of himself, and holds his decisions and actions to a very high standard. GREATEST DESIRE/MOTIVATION: His greatest motivation is to protect his friends, and to keep peace in the kingdom. He does not see war as a solution to anything, save for if the Malfoy's ever threaten to take the throne. As things stand right now, Remus will do his best to keep the status quo and stay loyal to Sirius. GREATEST FEAR: His greatest fear is losing those he cares about the most, which would be Sirius and the Potters. That is why he would die to defend them and do everything he could to keep them from harm. Aside from that, his next great fear would be revealing his secret to the world. He knows what happens to werewolves and he realizes that the revelation would mean the loss of everything he's worked so hard to gain. ROYAL AMBITION: Honestly, Remus does not want to see a fight for the crown. He would prefer things remain as they were. However, should the Blacks become too controlling or the Malfoys attempt to take the throne, Remus would side with the Potters. IN-DEPTH PERSONALITY: Remus is a serious man, possibly too serious for his own good. I twas one of the reasons that boys like James and Sirius were good for him back in Hogwarts. Without the Marauders, no doubt Sirius would have remained buried in his books and not developed much socially. As it were, he found his humorous, and even a bit of his charm, from his friends. It was thanks to them that he became so good at persuasion, and thanks to them that he grew into the wizard he is today. Despite his association with people like James and Sirius, Remus is still very much a scholar and a bookworm. He would prefer a quiet library and his studies as opposed to large parties or fancy balls. Still, he does take time to go out when he can, for small get togethers with those he trusts the most. And he can be at ease around such people, especially the Potters, who do not carry the burden of a direct line of royalty with them these days. Overall, Remus is awkward and shy when meeting people on a personal leave. He's gotten good at masking his true-self, though, especially in court or in front of students. He can 'pretend' he is not nervous and come across as knowledgeable, and personable, if a bit mysterious. It has served him well over the years, and those who do not know him closely, assume he is just cold and standoffish. HISTORY TOP 5 DEFINING MOMENTS: 1. The most obvious, and the first, would be when he was attacked as a very young boy by Greyback. It changed his life forever, cursing him to change on the full-moon and forever altering his life. 2. When he was told by Dumbledore he should go to Hogwarts. It was the first time anyone outside of his family knew what he was, and wasn't afraid of him for it. It made Remus realize that there were good, honest people in the world. Dumbledore would help inspire Remus to becoming the wizard he would grow to be. 3. When James, Sirius, and Peter learned of his ailment, and chose to remain his friends. Not only that, they did what they could to remind him of his humanity. Again, it solidified Remus' belief in the man he was and helped to remind him that his loyalties were not misplaced. 4. Losing his parents was the first great tragedy in Remus' life. They died within months of one another, and in those months Remus lost all of his blood relatives. He grew closer to his friends soon after, the only family he had left. 5. His first day as a adviser for the House of Black was further proof of what he could be capable of when people believed in him. HAPPIEST MEMORY: When his friends discovered he was a werewolf and laughed about it. He never thought he'd be so happy to be made fun of by anybody, but the acceptance he felt that day would change him forever. WORST MEMORY: The day his mother died. Remus had been out celebrating Halloween with his friends when he received the owl. It was his first great loss, and when he saw his father that evening, it was clear it would not be his last... BIGGEST SECRET: Other than his lycanthropy, Remus had a crush on Lily Evans in Hogwarts. He would never tell James because he knew that she was off limits, and he never dared act on it. He still admires her to this day. WHERE ARE THEY NOW?: Remus Lupin is currently a full time adviser for the House of Black- namely, watching over Sirius. He has also assisted at Hogwarts from time to time for the past ten years. He lives in Hogsmeade, in what used to be the Shrieking Shack, but has now been made over into a modest house. Remus lives a modest life, but takes care in his public image. He remains a respected and well-liked teacher at the school, and his little 'secret' is always something that plagues him. For years, Dumbledore has helped him keep his lycanthropy from the public eye, and because of his close relationship with Sirius, he often excuses his once a month sabbatical a regular holiday with the younger Black. DIFFERENCE FROM CANON: Because he never lost his best friends, this Remus is more timid than he might be in canon. He also has fewer scars, because he has not seen the same battles or war that the canon version of himself might have. And, of course, there is the fact that he fancies both men and women, though he tends to lean toward the 'fairer' of the two sexes, so to speak. WRITING SAMPLES FIRST PERSON: I know it's likely difficult to believe, but I truly despise these rumors. Perhaps I should say no more of my opinions, but if I must read one more article in the Prophet in regards to my Prince's exploits, they will hear back. [Private to Sirius] What in Merlin's name were you thinking?! TWO of them?? I can't even imagine what you were- you know what, I do not want to know. I just hope you realize the sort of political scandal you're creating for yourself, my friend. You know I'm not trying to talk down to you in any way, but you're in a very sensitive position right now, and it's my job to try to prevent you from making an arse of yourself. And that is a VERY difficult job when you're shagging every eligible witch in the bloody United Kingdom! [/Private] THIRD PERSON: Remus remained unfazed as he listened to the woman drone on about something regarding the fall of the Ministries political might. It was part of his job, after all, to deal with people like this. The Pureblooded aristocracy bullshit that had seemed so pervasive for generations. The trouble was, people did not like change. He knew that. It was fear of the unknown that drove women like the one next to him to rant on and on about the fall of Magical Civilization and the over-population of "Mudbloods". As he lifted his hand to his chin and nodded, pretending to be interested, he half-wondered whether or not she'd actually done her research and realized the ear of the prince had been a Half-blood himself. Not likely, considering. Then again, they'd done well to make that fact less than public when he had first been granted the position at Sirius' side. "Yes- well, I do appreciate your opinion and I promise His Majesty will take note of it and that policy. Next, please!" The poor witch looked extremely put off as she was ushered out and Remus couldn't help but grin a bit once she was gone. But, then it fell. If Sirius had been here to do his job, and not running around chasing whores and doing..whatever, perhaps Remus could be doing something a bit more constructive with his time. Instead, here he was, wasting the afternoon as he covered for the Prince. Oh, the blighter owned him, alright... PLOT IDEAS: I think Remus might be the most soft-spoken of his friends, but a bit more strong-willed than he let's own. For plots, I imagine the revelation that the adviser to Sirius Black a werewolf will eventually come into play. I just would enjoy seeing his relationships develop, especially if and when tensions grow between the houses. Remus has a great love of the Potters and yet, his job and loyalties also must lie with House Black. I'm open to ideas! |
