037; 26 January 1980.
[Warded to Sarah Cornfoot]

Thank you very much Mrs Cornfoot. I appreciate your willingness to undertake the media with me.

[Warded to Sloane Vaisey]
Lovely. Thank you.

[Warded to Lucia]
I find that I very much like the colour blue, don't you?

The announcement was perfect, as well.

[Warded to Paul Zeller]
Your entry tonight has reminded me. My daughter recently had a birthday and I was able to get her a pony - which she is ecstatic with. Would it be possible to engage your services to give it a check-up and whatever else might be required?

[Warded to the Inner Circle]
Our vigilantes - we have discussed targets from the DMLE. I am wondering about further possibilities within our supposed vigilantes. It strikes me that perhaps the Prewetts or the Potters. Actually, the Potters seem a likely possibility - the evidence is inconclusive, but regardless the boy married a mudblood and sullied an otherwise pure line which makes me disinclined to be polite if they are suspected.

I suggest that if we put some of our outer circle on gathering more specific information about anyone that we wish to hit. Thoughts?

[ Warded to Rabastan Lestrange, Regulus Black, Persephone Jugson, & Lucius Malfoy]
Consider this a check in of sorts. You may reply specifically to me if you wish, in fact, if it is sensitive I encourage you to do so.

Question number one: What has been on your mind as a way that you could better serve the Dark Lord? Individuals that might be a threat to his cause, a way that you could improve your own training, and so on.

And question number two, outside of your weekly training with me and your colleagues, what have you been doing to support the cause and improve the Wizarding World?

As for my answer to question number two, outside of the research I have done for my books, I have spent a goodly number of hours this week devoted to the proper education of our magical youth.

As for question number two, I am a reputed donor to many charities, not least of which includes St. Mungos, to which I just contributed a sizable donation in the hopes that the Board of Directors will be able to increase staffing efforts and better stock our mediwizards to deal with crises in these turbulent times.

Warded to Patrice
While this did require conversing with the worst sort of person, I am also hoping that should a new Chief be required in the near future that my donation might be grounds enough to have a voice in the decision and prevent a second such farce.

I have given great thought to my position in service of the Dark Lord, particularly since Crouch Junior's incarceration. While I am not as delicately placed, I feel that my connections with the Wizengamot may prove useful should there be any seeds of legislation we wish sown, and I do have enough liberty to venture forth not only through the DMLE, but the influence to travel to other departments as well.

I should think it would require time and finesse, but I believe I could navigate the Ministry to serve our Lord's means. Barring my own access, I have great confidence in my Imperius.

I have been going through our exercises quite fastidiously in my spare time, and feel that my dueling is making marked improvement, though I will hope that my performance at training sessions will speak louder than my feelings on the matter.

As to threats to our cause, I am still convinced that I faced off against Frank Longbottom at Kings Cross and have provided all the information I could remember from the Halloween ball.

Podmore has a new recruit, some idiot child who one can only hope will distract him for a time. I believe her name is Melanie Turpin. She is the daughter of Scott Turpin in DMLE administration, if what is being said is to be believed. Other than that, I doubt I could name anyone who is not already under supervision.

That is excellent, Lucius. Thank you.

[Lucius]
I believe that we must be incredibly cautious with those we have yet in the Ministry. It is possible that they will believe that they have caught their only mole and relax, but I rather think some of these men are too intelligent for that. Thus, continue your work with connections, but we will be careful to use any information you give us sparingly and so to not compromise your own position.

Longbottom was involved in the arrest of young Barty Crouch if I recall correctly. I am not amused.

Podmore with a recruit? Well, that ought to be entertaining.

I am grateful for the discretion.

As to Longbottom, I do believe that you are right. I will put forth that we seldom interact volitionally, having a bit of longstanding grudge from our schooldays, but I will do my best to keep an eye on his movements.

And I would that you could see this girl. She has rather nice legs. They are a bit like a Punch and Judy show. She makes enough spectacle of herself on the journals I suppose to give some idea.

[Last Ward]
Thank you.

Additionally, I forgot to ask, does the DMLE's curfew affect this weekend's training?

No. You may floo directly to our home. For those of you who have wives or significant others, bring them with you and Lucia will entertain them. If anyone in the floo office should have any question, it is merely dinner with friends.

I shall answer the second question first, if I may. In recent times, I have investigated Aberforth Dumbledore at the Inner Circle's request and, along with Dylan Selwyn, I dealt with Guy Dobbs at the request of Augustus Rookwood.

In regards to the first question, I have had an interesting result come of my investigations into Dumbledore. I used Polyjuice in order to enter the Hog's Head without rousing suspicion and once I discovered that Dumbledore appears to dabble in the black market, I used the ruse of being a potential dealer and wanting to get something of a measure of the man before I conducted business with him.

The ruse was not as successful as I might have wished with Dumbledore's particular friends but just this afternoon I have found that it was more successful than I expected with the contact I eventually extracted information from.

It seems he has spoken with Dumbledore and vouched for me with that man as a black market dealer. Apparently I was not the only one judging another that night and I have passed with flying colours.

I intend to follow this through in a judicious manner. I have a small amount of polyjuice still available as well as a few more hairs from the man I used. I do not know what precisely may be gained from this, apart from perhaps a few Dark objects, but I feel it is an avenue that should not be discarded.

To complement this, would it be possible to gain more training in wandless and wordless magic? I feel it might be useful.

As to your final question, absolutely. We shall begin next week. I will owl you a book tomorrow that will provide you some guidance in beginning to prepare your mind best for this type of magic.

As for Dumbledore - good. For the moment, I would suggest allowing a bit of time to pass, but I believe in the future we may wish to follow through on this avenue and you have shown a good deal of foresight in setting the matter up.

Of course, sir. I would be pleased to count you among my clients. For a health check-up on a pony I usually visit you on-site, unless you prefer to bring the pony to the clinic. When would you like this to take place?

On-site will be quite well. Do you offer - or do you know of someone who does - care lessons for the pony? I should like my daughter to be capable of taking care of the pony so that she may gather a sense of responsibility.

I can certainly include it in my check-up visit, as well as schedule a second visit to go more in depth and answer any question your daughter might have after the first lesson. I recommend at least two lessons with children, as they usually need more time to process the information. How old is your daughter?

It is my youngest daughter, Prisca, and she is seven years of age now. She certainly will need a bit more time, but she is bright and quite mature for her age, so I do not believe that you will have any difficulty with her. Her governess will likely be with her during the lesson so should you have any difficulty, she would be quite able to help.

And two lessons will most certainly be fine. What times would work best for you?

Seven is a great age for they are still eager to learn and listen very carefully. I look forward to meet your daughter, sir. Her governess' help will hopefully not be necessary, but it is good to have her on hand as well.

I could free an afternoon next week for the first lesson, either Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday, and I suggest waiting a week before the second one.

Tuesday afternoon perhaps? And then yes, let us schedule the next week during the same time if that works for you?

I know that Prisca will look forward to it.

It certainly works for me, both weeks, Mr Nott. It will be a pleasure to meet your daughter and her pony. May I ask what her pony is called, so that I can begin the paperwork for your file?

Oh, indeed, blue is a wonderful colour. I don't think I shall ever tire of it.

Thank you, I'm glad you liked it. I was going to go with something blue, but then I thought that the news itself is important enough that colour coding it might simply be gauche. You know how I worry of these things. The paper was quite nice, besides.

For Merlin's sak They turned out perfectly lovely Lucia, you needn't have worried. I suppose now that our announcement has been made, we ought to turn our minds to the baby's room. Have you given any thought as to how we should decorate it?

I am wondering if Laelia would perhaps enjoy assisting with the project. She has such a flair for the creative and decorative.

I would wish to learn more about warding and the like. It is already a strength of mine, but I feel with more care, I could be truly useful to the Dark Lord's mission.

And secondly, I have cut off poor friendships that stand no benefit to me or the Black family, as well as reached the 10,000 Galleon mark in the McAllister & Williams Memorial fund.

Mr. Nott
Additionally, I thought that I might let you be aware that this weekend I will be spending time with "friends" of mine. Most are not noteworthy - Mudbloods and sympathizers and the like - but one is a McKinnon. While some parts of the gathering will be most unsavory, I have high hopes to find out something useful on the family with time spent in one of their company.

We will work on those things then Regulus. And congratulations on such a success with the Memorial fund. You have more subtlety than your father had in his little finger You have done quite well.

[Regulus]
Were you able to find anything interesting about the McKinnons?
