011; 12 October 1979.
I returned some titles this afternoon to the library and found that it is good to see so much work being done there. It was at the very least somewhat disturbing to see a hole in the wall, and equally pleasing to see that the hole at least has been repaired. In some ways this is no doubt the easiest part of the work that must be done, but I can see that many are hard at work to return the Reference & Special Collections to their original glory as much as is physically possible to do so.

[Warded to Barty Crouch Jr]

What can you tell me about the DMLE's activities on the night of the Masquerade?

[Warded Private]
There are six of us. We must each be willing to take on the Outer Circle at this point in time. Each one of them should have an Inner Circle mentor that they are responsible to. In most cases these decisions are clear cut - the person who brought them into the fold is likely the person they would begin with, but there may be some cases where that is not the most beneficial to his plan.

I will begin with who has brought them in and then the Inner Circle will meet and we will make final selections. Hopefully by the end of the week we can announce the pairings to the Outer Circle.

I know I would like for any under my care to train thoroughly for the rest of the month if we are to be fighting at the Masquerade.

[Warded to Mina Alderton]
Are you free this coming Friday evening?

I was glad to be able to report good news, as it has been far inbetween lately. I must commend you on such a generous donation, Mr Nott.

Thank you Mrs Vaisley. Perhaps unsurprisingly there is very little that is closer to my heart than the history of our country. I know there are some things that are likely lost forever, but I do hope for a high percentage of recovery.

We can only hope, though with a good team of archivists and librarians a lot can be done to save what can be saved and recover as much as possible of the rest. It is our history, our memory that is at stake, as you mentioned.

I have every confidence in the staff. I have always found them extremely professional and competent. I appreciated your report on it as well Mrs Vaisey. While the reason is unfortunate, it is still nice to hear the library mentioned in the news.

I am glad to read it. There always is a good side to anything and in this case, restoring and rebuilding the collection is giving employment to many qualified witches and wizards.

We rarely get to report good news - when things are going well there is nothing to report, after all - and so it is, in a way, a good thing that the library isn't mentioned more often. It was a pleasure to tell about donation and progress, though.

I will be visiting Lucia tomorrow afternoon, so we might get the chance to discuss this further.

I would certainly enjoy that. Please do give your husband my regards.

Two guards at the door checking for spells and concealing magics. Everyone who enters must be in costume with a mask. Additional shifts of DMLE personnel throughout the ballroom itself. No fewer than a dozen at a time on the floor.

What sort of checks - or can you get to that information? The next would be assumed. Do you have any guess at how many DMLE they will have in attendance throughout the evening?

I know the secretary who guards the information. I just need a mint and time to practice my smile, and what they know is yours.

My guess would be at least thirty hitwizards and Aurors on official duty. And everyone else on unofficial duty.

There will be quite the audience to enjoy the show, in other words.

Get your mint, practice your smile, and enjoy getting the information, then report back to me immediately.

I would be pleased to, provided that you would be so willing as to continue to show me your travel photos and unflattering snapshots of various Patrices Past.

You drive a very hard bargain, Mina, but I believe I can manage such a thing. You merely have to promise not to laugh at these Patrices past as I have a dreadfully sensitive ego.

How cruel do you imagine me to be? I'd laugh at the photographs merely as loudly as you'd laugh at my fluster when I discovered I had yet to get you to sign my copies of your books! I'm still embarrassed as to that!

What makes you think I did not purposefully leave them unsigned lest you should need convincing to see me again?

What makes you think I brought along all three of your books at once? I might've been very thoughtless and only remembered two even should you have signed them! Foolish, foolish.

Are you certain you were in Hufflepuff, ma chérie? That is a manoeuvre that would make a Slytherin proud.
