Current mood: excited

In the middle of October every year the kids at my shelter put on a play, or so I've just been told. I'm new here, so it's news to me! I think it's fantastic, though! This year they're choosing between Romeo and Juliet, which I vetoed because it has been done to death (though my veto means nothing!), and It's a Wonderful Life. It's a Christmas play in a way, sure, but I hope they choose that. It's got some real resonance to it. And as much as I appreciate Shakespeare, Romeo and Juliet are kind of idiots and the main point of the story isn't so much life affirming as it is...death...affirming.

We'll see how it goes, but I'm really excited about this. It gives these kids something to look forward to and something to accomplish while working with other people, and I think that's great.

Also, my apartment is now filled with herbs and it's adorable. Dewi and his green thumb!

I've never understood why people think Romeo and Juliet is so romantic. I always thought the moral of it was less 'Love is wonderful and powerful' and more 'Love will make you act like an idiot and die in an easily avoidable way, but at least your families will stop fighting.' Romance! But the play does sound fun either way. Are you going to be helping out with it?

I noticed that the houseplants seemed to be multiplying last time I was over.

I totally agree about Romeo and Juliet. It's too depressing, come on! Not that It's a Wonderful Life doesn't have it's depressing moments, but the end is lovely! And I do get to help! I am helping direct because they asked if I could build sets and I told him only if they wanted me to nail my thumbs to them!

They're everywhere! I pretty much love it.

Really? Okay, I have to come and see this and support your directorial debut. It'll be awesome!

And Downpatrick won't eat them the way a cat would. It's a match made in Heaven.

I suppose it's a classic, though Macbeth was always more informative, had a sense of flare. Then again, I've never seen that play sober.

I don't think my kids need to do a play about murdering someone and feeling guilt about it. Though you're right, Macbeth has some awesome resonance as a play. So does Hamlet for that matter. See them sober, they're even better that way even if not much else is.

4th times a charm right?

You make a remarkable point, my good man. Though, I'd like to call it character building.

I'll remember that the next time I get the urge to reflect about life. The whiskey gave it humor.

You'd like to call what character building?

I'm not so sure Macbeth is supposed to be funny but when I was drunk, I kept laughing at the movie Downfall which is not funny at all, because they were all so German....

Do they need a pianist??

I need to do more community stuff. I offered to help the lady downstairs with her groceries this morning and she almost sprayed mace in my face. =( I like church communities, they're so much nicer!

Your dog knocked over my basil pots last night. Lucky I was able to save them, or the penne I made for tea would have been sadly lacking!

I'll ask! I think they'd love that!

Oh my goodness. Well there's always my shelter! But most of them need people.

He's a bad boy, isn't he! I am sorry about him! That penne was amazing.

Oh good! I can play anything they put in front of me.

I really must find the Episcopal church that bears my name, just it's in the Bronx and I'm worried about getting lost and never finding my way back again! Not that your church isn't lovely, of course.

Ahh, it's fine. No harm done. I can't stay mad at that face!

I have no doubt!

We can go on an adventure! We'll find our way!

He has cultivated that face for that exact reason!
