Summons
Who:  The new pack leader/ vampire sheriff
What:  A called meeting
Where:  neutral territory

Tao made it a point to know what was going on in his territory, so news of a new alpha in the local pack had made it to his office before it finished making it's rounds through the pack.  He'd expected to be contacted at some point.  Though the wolves and vampires were not allies or friends, they shared an uneasy existence among the mortals of the world.  All knew of vampires now, and few were surprised to know there were shifters as well.  So a kind of uneasy truce was made.  Of course, this was with the last alpha, and with new leadership, came new negotiations.  What he hadn't expected, was a summons.  A request yes, formal, in his office, that he could understand.  A summons, was a bit, brave, of the new leader.  However, there was more going on in their world then the usual, and Tao had been busy forming a plan of action with his lieutenants on ways to keep their people safe and possibly trace the problems.  Disappearances of vampires.  It happened from time to time, one or two. They might choose to greet the sun, move out of territories to another more, amicable, leader.  A few, very few as of late, were killed by rivals, authorities, or humans.  This, was not a few.  Whoever was doing this was organized, and careful, they never struck groups, they were after the younger and easily taken, no one with ties to the group or family.  Loners for the most part, so it had taken some time to realize it was patterned.  From the whispers they had heard, it was not only vampires going missing.

Which was why Tao came.  Typically he'd send a strong message of what happens when you summon a vampire like a servant.  He instead, gave the benefit of the doubt that it had something to do with a mutual problem as well as treaty negotiations.  This new alpha wasn't exceptionally trusting as he was asked to come alone, and to a place that might be considered neutral territory.  Which was hard to find, considering most of the county was under his own jurisdiction and he still had no clear boundaries on the pack's territory.  So he had to trust the alpha would show alone, and that the area was truly neutral, or at least safe for the time being.  Quite a bit of trust, he thought to himself with a smirk.  He'd obeyed, if you could call it that, and come alone.  His car almost invisible in the night, with there being no city lights or street lights to mark the area.  Once his headlights were out, he could very easily be hidden, from human senses at any rate.

Stepping out nearly an hour early, he'd dressed professionally, as usual.  Black slacks, a black silk shirt, button down.  He'd stripped the jacket, the chill in the air never penetrated his senses, and rolled his sleeves half way up his arms.  His hair, brushing his shoulders now, was pulled back and tied at the nape of his neck.  Sighing, he leaned against the car and gave a slow sweep to his surroundings.  He didn't need to breathe and so after the sigh, more habit then anything, he was still.  Listening and watching, for heartbeats, movements, and making sure there were not already a contingent of shifters laying in wait.

Tao could, when he wanted to, have the patience of a statue and stay just as still. He sighed as Riley crossed his arms and stopped the urge to do the same. "Business already? All right then." He wanted distance for this but wasn't going to be the one to back up a step to get it. Instead he just smiled slowly, "Just like that then? No negotiations? Not all of your pups disliked tribute you know." He had no problems with it being abolished but he wasn't going to let one, or several, good fucks make him seem softer towards negotiations.

"My motives don't matter, I'm telling you what I want, and now it's your turn to say what you want." Riley replied sharply. It seemed now that all that fucking had really done was to make it easier for the space between them to be barely over a foot. "I'm the alpha, what do I care about what pups with heads full of mush think or want?" He scoffed with a growl. He took a step to the side and began to pace around the vampire. "So, what do you want?" He asked, "Once the river is diverted, we'll have no reason to live on the edges of the woods, we can sink deeper into the old growth. You could have land, or we could help you take the silver mine." His upper lip twitched, "But no tribute."

"And what would I need with your land?" He shook his head and sighed. "No tribute. Agreed. Anything else?" He asked with just a touch of sarcasm. He doubted Riley would ask for the same little, privileges, tribute had garnered anyway.

"A promise." Riley continued, his voice firm, "That if the West Pack ever wars with us, you and your kind will stay out of it." His hands clenched into fists. "I don't want an alliance, I'm not weak, but I don't want to have to worry about your people if those idiots ever try something that stupid."

"No." He turned his head to make sure he could see the pacing shifter. "I'll agree to no alliance but anything happening in my territory effects my people, and my position. If you and yours can handle it on your own, quietly, efficiently, then fine. If it's brought to my attention, it's mine to deal with." This he wouldn't budge on. Riley was right, the shifters didn't want to be known as vampires were now, as legal citizens. So they didn't have to worry about both human and vampire politics.

"That's acceptable to me." Riley replied, tossing his head slightly. He ran his fingers over his chin. "I can't expect you to keep to yourself if those dogs cross the line." They would have to have some considerable advantage to attempt that, and Riley happened to have it on good authority that they were currently having their own problems - mostly because he had caused them himself. "Our pack hasn't lost a skirmish with the West Pack in over fifty years, and they haven't tried in six." He rubbed his forehead, "Is there anything you want?"

Tao gave a short nod, that was something he wouldn't, couldn't, budge on. So he hadn't relished the idea of fighting or arguing over the point. His lips quirked, "From your pack, or from you?"

"I am the pack." Riley replied sharply, "I only want what's best for the pack, and if that means giving up a part of this body, then that is acceptable as part of the terms of our treaty." He changed his weight from one foot to the other. "So if there's something you want from me, say it."

Tao nearly rolled his eyes. "Still thinking I'm the enemy." He muttered. This time he did cross his arms and turned to fully face him. "I will tell you two, very, important things. Simply because learning them on your own can be very dangerous." He half growled. "You look and see all vampires as the same. Death walking. The only thing we have in common is a need for power. It's why we want that power and what we do with and for it that matter. You called me an old one. I am a, pup, compared to those on the council. More importantly, you think you understand the kind of evil my kind is capable of and you have no idea. Our politics are older then man's and much more complicated and dangerous then yours."

He stepped back, "Learn manners, little wolf. Should you ever need to negotiate with another of my kind, you won't find things done so civilly."

"Those are not terms, Tao!" Riley shot back, taking a step towards the vampire. "You say you're not all the same, but you are. The second you switch into your polite talking, you are. Cryptic and annoying as fuck." He let out a growl and turned away from Tao. "I appreciate the advice, but I'm not going to make interacting with your superiors a habit. You're as much vampire as I'd like to see for the rest of my life." He glanced up at the ceiling and growled, and then looked back at Tao over his scratched-up shoulder. "I'm not putting my attitude in as a condition of the treaty. Think of something else."

Tao smiled sadly, "I did not mean negotiating with my superiors. My position is only as secure as I can make it. Others are always trying to increase their territory." He reminded him, knowing other packs might be doing the same.

"I do not bargain for people's lives, or attitudes, and certainly not for their bodies." He hissed. "If the tribute is your only change to the treaty then we are done."

Riley's upper lip twitched as he scoffed. "Fine. That's all." He said, looking away from Tao. He let his eyes close and rolled his shoulders back. He heard his ribs cracking and he sighed, letting his arms slump back down. "You investigate that 'church' as you see fit, and we'll stake out the silver mine." He let out a soft chuckle. "Ha. Stake." That said, he tipped forward and began to shift, by the time his hands touched the ground, they were already the large golden wolf's paws.

The wolf turned around and looked up at Tao with his big amber eyes. He let out a low 'whuf' and padded over to the door, sitting back on his haunches expectantly.

Tao's jaw ticked and he closed his eyes. "Yes, really amusing." He muttered dryly. This damn shifter had broken and had Tao break, several rules and that infuriated him. He blinked at the barked command.

"Oh please, allow me." He smiled, sarcasm dripping from his voice. Hand on the door he waited a moment before opening it. "You owe me a collar." Opening the door he stepped back to let the wolf go. He'd made sure Jeanne knew to be in bed so she wouldn't have issues with a full grown wolf running around.

Riley's ears perked and he turned his head to the side, watching as Tao crossed to open the door. Once it was opened, Riley stepped up onto his hind legs, his tail swishing slowly from side to side, just above the ground. He shook the dried blood from his fur and then padded through the doorway, his eyes fixed on Tao until it wasn't possible to see him any longer.

Riley broke into a trot until he reached the front door, cursed inwardly and shifted quickly to open it, then back again to the great big wolf. He bounded off of the front porch and broke into a run, heading down the roads and into the deep wood, to scrub the smell of sex and blood out of his fur and off of his skin.

Tao closed the door immediately. Just in case anyone was up, they weren't allowed in the room and that he was keeping to. He'd clean and put back everything himself. Stripping sheets and destroying them then putting new ones on. Then after a long, and scalding hot shower, he'd hit the office. He needed to get going on the church issue and he'd draft up the old treaty for a quick signing. Get it out of the way and less to dwell on.
