Personality

+ CARING: While Tracey comes across as very much on the aloof side at times, to those that make it past her high walls, she is an incredibly considerate friend. She is the type of person who may not always remember your birthday, but if you are sad or have had a bad day, she will be the first to turn up with a takeaway and a bottle of something to cheer you up. To Tracey, her friends are her family and as a result she will go to great lengths to make sure they are protected at all costs, even if it means resorting to less....moral means.

+ LOYAL: Even though it is not the most common trait for a Slytherin to have, when her trust is won, Tracey would lay down her life in a heartbeat. While for a lot of things Tracey likes to think that there is a ‘price’ to pay in one way or another, for those that make it to her inner circle payback is not necessary, nor expected. Though, it must be noted, if you break her trust in any way/shape/form she can sometimes finds it a little....difficult to forgive and forget.

- DIRECT: One trait that has not always won her friends is that Tracey has always been very direct, often naively so. If she has an opinion on a topic and someone asks her for it, she will give it. While this isn’t a problem most of the time, she has been known to accidentally hurt people with her opinion with her honesty. Even though her opinions do not come from an evil or malicious place, she hasn’t quite realised that sometimes people aren’t ready to hear certain truths.

- SELF DESTRUCTIVE: When times get hard, Tracey tends to drink and smoke until the past becomes a distant memory. While a lot of the time the only person she is harming is herself, it has also caused her problems in the past when she has fallen out with friends over her actions, made stupid decisions or simply turned up to work hungover. The sad thing for Tracey is that she can often see herself slip into the cycle, however she feels powerless to stop herself. Even though she knows her actions are not healthy, she enjoys the freedom from life’s burdens that drinking can bring.

History

Like most kids that Tracey knew when she went off to Hogwarts, she had a decidedly normal and middle-class upbringing. While her parents might not have been as affluent as some of her Slytherin Peers, they were not hard up by any stretch of the imagination. She never wanted for much and enjoyed summer holidays in Spain or Greece, as well as a range of activities ranging from Horse Riding to dance. Up until the age of 14, Tracey had quite the carefree and relaxed life however, that was all destined to end when she received an owl at dinner one night to say that her father had left her mother.

Watching as her mother struggled to get by in the wake of her father leaving, Tracey found herself filled with a determination to never rely on another again, and work hard to forge herself a career path that would guarantee herself a cosy lifestyle. With a new sense of determination, Tracey began to push herself harder than she ever had before to achieve the best grades she could. While the next few years at school proved to be a little……eventful, Tracey continued to keep her eyes on the prize almost ruthlessly determined to not let anything get in the way of her good grades. So much so, when the rest of her house mates were running around joining the inquisitional squad, she chose to ignore that and continue with what she was doing. After all, not knowing which side would ultimately prove the winners in the water, she did not want to commit to the wrong side.

When the war was finally over and the dust had settled, Tracey opted to get out into the real world and start work on her career, rather than going back to study qualifications she did not really need. Signing up for a junior level role at The Daily Prophet, Tracey spent her first year or so after the war getting coffee and copying papers. Working late nights and early starts with a smile on her face, her break finally came after she had been working there for two and a half years. One of the feature reporters had called in sick, and someone needed to go interview the new, in demand Chaser for the Appleby Arrows. Convincing the Head of the Features department to give her a shot and send her as a replacement, Tracey finally got her first shot in writing professionally. Luckily for Tracey, her boss was impressed with the interview, and in return allowed Tracey to join the features team as a Junior Reporter. Despite this being a far cry from the serious journalism that Tracey one day hoped to do, she saw it for what it was, the first foot on the ladder of her career.

Like so many highly strung and extremely ambitious individuals, Tracey unfortunately had a tendency to push herself past her limits on a regular basis. What started out her needing something to take the edge off her new job, soon began to evolve into something more troubling. Drinking till the early hours of the morning, sleeping for a few hours and then rolling into work tired, she began to rely more and more on various substances until she found herself thoroughly dependent on them. It all came to a head one day after a particularly hard week at work where she accidentally overdosed herself on stimulants and believed herself to be having a heart attack. It was on that visit to the hospital that Tracey was referred to the retreat, in hopes that she might find slightly healthier coping mechanisms.
