Who : Jilli and Asher.
What : Their first 'date.'
Where : In and around Los Angeles .. wherever they end up going.
When : Monday night from 6 PM, on.
Rating : TBD.

Since he had moved back to Los Angeles, most of Asher's free time had been spent trying to find both a new house and a buyer for the old one. Though he had only been in the Seattle home for a little more than a year, he was lucky enough to have gotten a good deal of renovating done with the help of his brother. Penn had come up on a number of occasions and before Asher had decided to move back home, they had finished both the bathrooms, the kitchen, completely redid the deck outside, put drywall and carpet in the basement, and fixed the roof. Sure, there was still a good bit to be done to the house, but they had finished enough that the resale price on the Seattle house would cover the mortgage and make a nice down-payment on whatever they found in LA. Thankfully, after almost three months of waiting, Asher had a potential buyer and was just waiting for a credit check to clear before all the paperwork was signed. The timing, of course, couldn't have been more perfect as Asher, just that morning, had found a foreclosure listing in Pasadena only a few blocks from his parents' place. When he had made the plans with Jilli for Monday night, he had just finished putting in a bid on the house, a property worth more than his Seattle home but costing much less.

Now, that all might seem just like pointless rambling but it really isn't. You see, Asher had been putting his entire life on hold for the last couple of months. Hell, for the last couple of years. It was almost as though he was waiting for the stars to align and everything to fall into place. When he heard from his realtor that somebody was interested in buying the Seattle home, he thought .. alright, maybe this is cause to celebrate. And when he happened to stumble across the three bedroom, two bathroom ranch house in Amity's school district for a steal of a price, he thought .. now this is definitely cause to celebrate! Asher was generally a pretty serious guy, but even he had to break out of his shell when fate started dealing him some good cards. What does this all have to do with Jilli? Well, she just happened to be in Los Angeles when Asher was in a good mood for a change and finally felt like he had reason to not be a mopey old man. And besides, she really did owe him that date from a few months back .. so why not take the opportunity to stop being a complete ass about the age thing and just go have a good time?

When he saw that she was planning to go back to New York on Tuesday, he had honestly thought that his good luck had run out. But when she agreed to go, he honestly felt a little excited about the whole thing. Only a little though. This was Asher, after all. It'd take a brick to the head to loosen the guy up. Or, well, somebody with a whole lot more spunk than he was used to. Losing your wife only a few years into marriage, having to raise a kid by yourself and give up on all the dreams for something better than hotel management had a tendency to drain the life out of you. But there were certain people in this world who, when you surround yourselves with them, you suddenly feel a little more carefree, a little more daring, a little less like a stodgy old fart. Jillian just happened to be one of those people for Asher and even if they never became anything more than friends, which he assumed would be the case considering the bitter rapport that they'd shared lately due to his comments about her age .. he'd be okay. Well, they'd both be okay. Sometimes, in this life, all you needed was a friend who could pick up your spirits.

Now, it was pretty safe to say that while Asher might not have acted like he had been at all interested in her, he had enjoyed the short bit of banter that they'd had going on. He also enjoyed the few random kisses he'd received from the younger Belmont. Not to mention the more than comfy towels he'd gotten as a Christmas present after a certain conversation about her showing up when he was wearing only that .. a plain white towel. Towels which, by the way, had come into good use since he had obtained them. In fact, in preparation for the evening, he had used one after his shower .. something he'd probably mention to her later just because he could.

In regards to where the evening would take them, or rather for what Asher had planned, he honestly hadn't put a whole hell of a lot of thought into it. He hadn't made reservations anywhere because the whole thing had been very last minute and he figured it would be close to impossible to get anything by then. Besides, he figured it'd be more fun to just pick a random place and go. Depending on what she answered the door wearing, as no clothing requirements had been made, he had a few ideas of things to pass the time. He'd actually considered taking her to play mini-golf but thought it might be a little chilly for the outdoor activity. For some unknown reason, the California nights had been colder than they normally would be by now. Damn the unset of 2012! Because he was less than sure about what they'd end up doing tonight, he opted for a more casual look than something he'd normally where. A pair of crisp blue jeans and an untucked, short-sleeved, button-down shirt ... not wet. It was simple and easy, could pass for someplace nice in a pinch, and yet left him comfortable enough if they ended up bowling or .. singing more karaoke.

Before he was allowed to leave his house that night, his daughter had decided she needed to inspect the outfit and make sure that it was presentable for Jillian. Ami even went so far as to tell him to change his shoes from the pair of dress ones he had on originally to the pair of white sneakers he finally left the house in. Along with him for the ride to Danielle's place was a single white daisy. He had thought about bringing a rose but figured he got her roses for Christmas so why be cliché. Besides, the daisy had just struck him as slightly less overkill and a little more natural. Parking his Chevy Aveo5 outfront of the house once he was finally there, he grabbed the flower from off the passenger seat and headed towards the front door. Thanks to the shower he'd gotten, he smelled freshly of soap and that tiny hint of aftershave he always wore. He hadn't shaved completely because he was so used to that bit of scruff on his face, but everything was trimmed down to the point where he basically looked as though he had a permanent five o'clock shadow. As he stood at the door, he patted the pockets of his jeans just to double check that he had his wallet, cellphone, and keys before he knocked. He'd hate to have to run back to the house for anything once he'd already picked her up. And with one final glance at the silver watch resting on his right wrist, he finally let his knuckles hit the front door at exactly 6 PM.

Jillian dumped her key chain into the endless pit of her bag and jiggled the door knob for additional confirmation that she had secured the premises in a satisfactory fashion. But she hadn't and realized this after only taking a couple of steps. " Aw, man. One second. " She'd held up an index finger quickly retracing her steps and explaining over her shoulder. " I forgot to set the alarm. It's this new system. Not the one that was here when I living here. I forgot to put it on twice already. " She rummaged blindly through the designer bag for a few seconds, retrieving everything but her keys and then crouched on the front step to open it wide and sort of dump some of the continents out. She shook her head. " I can never find anything in this thing but it's so pretty and black and sleek and sophisticated. I can't get rid of it. And it comes in handy. Cause even though I can't ever find what I want, I know that I have it. It's comforting in a bizza-- oop, here it is. " Holding up the keys in triumph she unlocked the door and disappeared back inside to flip open the small alarm box placed on the wall behind the door. Pressing in the code, she activated it and headed back outside narrowly avoiding tripping over Lola in the process. " Okay. Now, I'm really ready. " Scooping up the remainder of her things back into her bag then she exhaled dramatically, collected her thoughts and resumed conversation as if nothing had interrupted it.

" Thanks. " Both for the compliment and the flower which she extended her hand to accept while heading to his car at a leisurely like pace -- not ahead or behind but not exactly precisely in step with him. " It's Dani's outfit. So, if you happen to see her wearing the same thing don't be like.. " Jillian has the same outfit " cause she'll know I ..borrowed it. " Jillian didn't know how often Asher and her sister saw each other or even that he was paying attention enough to what she was wearing to be able to recognize it later on but it wasn't out the realm of possibility that he could and he might. She had her own clothes and her own money to buy said clothes but there was just something about her sister that made her outfits seem infinity cooler. No matter how old, she got, Jillian suspected that there would always be a part of her that wanted to be just like Danielle. But because she'd never admit that, she did what she did best and attempted to justify her sneaky tactic's. " It's not even like she bought it. She gets so much free swag it's ridiculous. Screenplay writers get jack. I mean I got a t-shirt from Comic Con but that's so not the same as free jeans worth hundred's of dollars. " She snickered a little at herself at the ridiculousness of her statement. Somewhere and not too far away, some child was going to bed hungry and things such as hundred dollar denim actually existed. What a world, Hollywood was.

Once the daisy was in her possession she'd twirl it by the stem between her index and pointer finger and then leaned over a little to use the passenger side mirror to tuck it behind her ear. This would mark the second time in three days that she'd used a flower for hair decoration, having seen a model recently in Vogue doing the same thing. Bending it just a tad until it felt secure she stood up straighter and gestured towards it, looking over the top of the Chevy at him. " Tada. I have the perfect elfish ears for this. All smashed to my skull and pointy and great for holding up flowers. Which just goes to show parts of your body that you think are deformed really just have some hidden cool purpose yet to be discovered." It sounded like the sort of misguided "feel good but not really " message that she'd incorporate into one of her next project. Not knowing if he locked it or not, she placed her hand on the handle to the door instinctively and tried. Some part of her was aware that she was talking a lot because she was starting to get sick of the sound of her own voice. It was nasally and annoying. But she couldn't stop. A nervous tick. Biting on the corner of her lip help but only for a few seconds till she released it and continued to blab, though this time giving him enough time to answer. " How's the move going ? Ami digging her new surroundings ? "

As she stopped in progression towards the car, he haulted just a few feet behind her and turned to follow her body as it retreated back towards the door. For a moment, he thought she had changed her mind and was going to leave him standing there on the front lawn. But when she gestured one second and started to dump all of her belongings on the front step, he realized she had forgotten something. What? Well, who knows. Still, he watched her in amusement because .. let's face facts here, it was pretty damn entertaining, watching somebody scatter their possessions all over the sidewalk. With the awareness that she needed to find the keys in the mess of items, he was almost distracted from the bit of rambling about the purse itself. He'd never really paid much attention to women's accessories but he glanced at the bag for a moment, curious how you could even carry so much in a bag that small. Or, well, perhaps it wasn't really small at all. It was one of those spaces that was so incredibly disarming and dishonest, looking so much smaller on the outside than it was on the inside. Like houses could be sometimes.

When she stopped mid-sentence, holding up the keys, he grinned. He'd stood silent the entire time she was searching, his hands tucked into the pockets of the jeans he had on. He was being patient, letting her take care of what she needed to. Though that probably had something to do with the fact that he was still trying to figure out what they were going to do in his head. Looking at her shoes, he knew full well that they weren't really the kind of shoes you did things like play mini-golf or drive go-carts in. And he was almost certain she wouldn't want to do anything that might get her outfit dirty. Of course, he hadn't yet learned about the outfit being Dani's at that point. Still, that made getting it dirty even less of an option. So paintball was out! Not that he was honestly considering any of these things. He had a feeling if he even suggested anything like that, she would think it was a knock on her age. And that wasn't at all true. He was just trying to find something fun that they could do together. Something less .. stuffy than going to a fancy restaurant. Of course, who said they needed to go to a fancy one?!

Waiting on the sidewalk as she went back inside, he pondered moving to help her clean up the mess on the ground but he wasn't sure if she would freak out about him going through her stuff. Women could be incredibly complicated and some of them went off about the silliest stuff. He'd already upset Jilli once to the point where she'd barely talk to him and .. well, he didn't really want her to stop talking to him. He enjoyed talking to her. And maybe she didn't want to be just friends, but being friends was the best place to start anything more than that. Not that his pondering really mattered much. Before he was able to take action in either direction, she was back out the door and gathering the fillings of her purse, stuffing it all right back in. When she stood up and thanked him, slipping right back into the conversation from before without skipping a beat, he laughed outright. Hopefully, it wouldn't come across as offensive as he wasn't aiming to be that way. He was just honestly amused by her ability to do things like that. Asher found himself distracted far too easily to just jump back in without a reminder of where the conversation left off. When she took the flower, the laughter settled into a smile and he nodded. "You're welcome." And thus followed the ramblings of the outfit belonging to Dani.

Following along, he had a smile all but rooted on his face as he listened to her go on about how Dani got tons of free stuff and people in her own profession got jack. He knew what that was like. Of course, people in his profession didn't even merit the free Comic-con tees. Shaking his head slightly, he laughed more to himself than anything and moved around the front of the car while she was adjusting the flower behind her ear. He would have opened the door for her, but he would have hit her with it in that case, so .. it was better just to let her get it when she was finished, and he moved around to the driver's side in the meantime. With his hand on the handle, he had just popped the door open when she stood up with the daisy in her hair and he couldn't help but just watch her for a moment before nodding. The whole bit about elfish ears was lost on him in that short amount of time and all she got was a, "Looks nice." Asher was pretty shitty at the compliments but he was genuine with them, so you had to give him that. The whole .. flower behind the ear look worked well for her.

Slipping into the car, he pulled the door shut and buckled his seatbelt before putting the key in the ignition. He liked that she was a talker, even if it was a nervous habit. He was generally pretty quiet so it was nice to have somebody else fill the dead space for awhile, make things less awkward. At the sound of the question, his brows rose slightly and he glanced at her before shifting gears and pulling away from the curb. "The move is going pretty slowly, but it's going. Ami is liking getting to spend time with my parents but I'm ready to get into our own place again. I just put down a bid on a house a few blocks from them earlier today, so we'll see how that goes. I promised Ami that I'd do my best to make sure she stayed in her old school district so that's what we're aiming for." He was hoping that everything would go well with the purchase of the new house and that the people trying to buy the Seattle one wouldn't fall through, but only time would tell on that one.

"So, I've been racking my brain about what to do tonight. And, apparently, I'm just really terrible at coming up with things. I thought about maybe going to play mini-golf but you're not really dressed for that. And then I thought about going to see a movie, but you can't really talk during a movie. Though .. if you know of one that you'd like to see, we can still go see one. I .." He stopped for a moment and glanced at her before looking back at the road. "There's this diner downtown called Cafe 50's. I haven't been there in years but I remember them having pretty good malts." Hey, if he was going to poke fun at the age difference, why not poke fun at himself? Of course, he wasn't old enough to have been around in the 50's when maltshops were a big thing .. but who cares? Why not go with the whole 'old man' thing and make the best of it? "I'm not sure what kind of food you like, but they have a little bit of everything."

Jillian sank down into the seat and pulled the door to an accidental hard close. Grimacing she immediately shot a sheepish glance at Asher to see if he'd noticed and if he had, was the type of guy that was anal about his car -- particularly girls who seemed to carelessly slammed the doors. It wasn't instinctual for her to put on her seatbelt as a ticket she'd gotten last October could stand testament to. Despite their proven purpose to keep all passengers as safe as possible, she'd always thought they were extremely uncomfortable and often claimed that it "smashed" her boobs and made her feel as if she were "suffocating". Had it been her car and she was the one behind the wheel she wouldn't have bothered but after catching him buckling in, she grabbed the strap and did the same.

" I bet your parents are happy to have her around so close again. " Not having any grandparents of her own on either side, Jillian had never experienced the dynamic herself first hand but imagined her statement to be true. " You'll have to show me the house, later. " She was fairly familiar with the neighborhood and the surrounding areas but had not lived at home since she first went away to college nearly seven years ago. Things obviously had the potential to have changed during that span. " Is it new ? " Leaning back she rested her elbow against the window slightly, while her fingertips idly thumped at her temple. " I think Mom was saying something about a new complex.. " She strained to remember the vague detail but couldn't conjure up anything precise. " Mom" of course being a reference to Melanie, her step-mother. She'd barely been three years old when her father remarried and though it'd certainly never been a requirement that she address the woman that way ( Danielle didn't ) it seemed to fit. She wanted a mother and while she knew Melanie didn't biologically belong to her, she was the next best thing.

" I can totally play mini golf in these shoes. " She smirked, lazily turning away from staring at a girl walking an adorable tiny dog of some sort to look at his side profile. " I do better in heels than I do in flats, trust me. When I was in sixth grade my friend Grace said she'd read that if you wear high heels they make your legs look longer and your butt bigger. We used to practice all the time. But then I read in Cosmo recently that people who wear heels all the time, totally fuck their spine or something up ? But that's not true. Not for me anyway. I think my spine is fine. And so are my feet. Now, ballerina's are the one that have totally jacked feet. I dated a dancer once. " Jillian made a face, and then gave a short laugh. " We could go to the diner though. Sounds fun." The significance of the cafe name was not lost on her but she refrained on making any comments regarding his age, if only so it wouldn't remind him of hers.

She bit the corner of her mouth as her eyes drifted to his radio. Letting her arm drop from the window she sat up straighter. " Can I ? " Before he could give her permission, she was already scanning at a low volume in search of something that she liked. It wouldn't take her long to stumble across Outkast, " Hey Ya " which she had inappropriately been calling the "polaroid" song for years. " Ooh! " She gasped. " I love this song ? Don't you love this song ? " Turning it up a little louder she started to sing along. " My babay don't mess around because she loves me so and this I know fo shooo " Dancing as much as one could while strapped in a passenger seat ( which mostly meant a lot of hand vouge-ing and head banging ) she no doubt gave people in passing cars an interesting view. At the next stop light, Jillian would encourage him to do the same, prompting him with chants like, " Go Asher, it's your birthday. Start dancing like it's your birthday. "
