I have been so used to spending my birthday in remote isolation that it caught me really off guard when my mum wanted to throw together some sort of special get together. Luckily, with the holidays approaching, I was able to talk her out of it, though not without a lot of begrudging on her part. Instead of an ordeal, I got a wonderful home cooked meal at home.
26 isn't much different than 25. I get the impression that next year I will feel a might different, as 27 feels so much closer to 30 than naught.
The holidays were lovely. The usual sweater from mum and lovely gifts from the rest of the family. It was fantastic to be home for the holidays for the first time in years. I can't believe Ginny is in her last year at Hogwarts.
This weekend I'm off to Sweden to visit an aging short-snout that's been warming an egg for the better part of a year. I'm to inspect the egg and give a prognosis, which likely won't be very good given the age of the mother. But nonetheless, a part of me can't help but hope that this will be the one to survive.
Looking forward to the upcoming World Cup. I think I can find something for myself to do in Australia, so I should be, at the very least, at the final matches. Best of luck to all of you who are playing!

Finally took a break from the paperwork to attend my first game back since my return from Romania. And what a game it was! Kenmare v. Portree on the Kenmare pitch. Kenmare was pretty battered down and had two reserves up, but it was quite a game to watch. I wish I could've been up in the air listening to the teams communicate, both with their thick accents.
In the end, Portree pulled out a brilliant win, thanks in part to a slick catch from Dougal McBride. Job well done, mate!
And no offense to Kenmare, but Portree's Keeper is a lot prettier.
Almost makes me wish I would've taken a chance on Pro Quidditch seven years ago. Those dragons were awfully pretty though....

It's a might strange being holed up at the burrow. I've shoved Bill's bed out of the way to make room for a little desk, which is utterly covered in papers and disorganization. I am good at field work - getting my hands dirty and keeping dragons in line when need be. But sorting through this paperwork? Trying to figure out some way to organize all of this data that apparently no one has been looking at or keeping track of for the last century? I feel helpless, to say the least.
And when I say century, I'm really not kidding. Right now I'm examining a Romanian report documenting the birth of a Hungarian Horntail in 1897.
Wish I could make it out to catch up with some of you lot, but I've literally been buried in parchment. I haven't studied this hard since NEWTs. And here I thought that sort of work was behind me!
Can I interest anyone in getting drinks and/or a burger sometime this week? I know most of you are busy with your own lines, but this ol' boy could use some company.

I suppose I ought to have owled, but you should have seen the look on my mum's face when I turned up this morning unannounced. Felt late to me, but apparently I had forgotten the time difference and surprised her before she had a chance to get coffee on (which would be no big deal for anyone other than Molly Weasley. Word to the wise: do not rob this woman of the chance to be a good hostess).
I haven't lived at the Burrow since the week after I graduated Hogwarts, and have only been home for a few days at a time. Seems strange that I will be there until I can find a place I call my "own." How do I even go about doing that? In Romania, I built a cabin. Perhaps I could do that here? I'm sure mum would get a hoot out of a miniature cabin for her son to live in, just on the other side of the garden.
Speaking of, mum's none too thrilled about Păcală and Luana taking up residence with the owls.
I feel as if I have been out of the loop for so long. So, what's new, England?

Word from China that Xi Wang's health is not good. She has been losing weight quite rapidly and isn't holding food down at all. It's really heartbreaking to hear such news and not be able to be there to try to help with my own two hands.
Keep her in your thoughts, will you?

Even though I hate to admit it,I'm sort of glad that we have a bye this week. I am loving being a part of Tutshill, which is an incredible team (undefeated so far!), but I didn't realize how much I was asking myself to have two jobs, especially one that demands a good bit of traveling.
Off to Romania for a day or two to catch up with old friends and visit the reserve. Of course, I will be checking in (at the very least) for Quidditch, but I do need to spend the nights out there, take samples, and get updated on all of the progress.
