Hi. We haven't officically met yet, but I'm the new coach for the women's soccer team here at FCU. You've probably seen my ramblings on the FCU message board by now and have assumed, correctly of course, that I'm very enthusiastic about this sport and about motivating my team to do their very best AND about getting people into the stands. And since you coach the men's team and, presumably, feel just as enthusiastic about things as I do, I wanted to make a proposition. At my last position working with athletes at UNLV, the coaches of the men's and women's teams of various sports would sometimes do a co-event. This would serve in place of a typical practice, usually on a weekday, but it would be an actual game with men versus ladies. I was curious as to whether or not you would be interested in arranging something like that between our guys and gals. I've found that it not only helps to build team morale overall as an athletic department, but it can improve both party's game by allowing them to pick up on tips and tricks that the other team may have mastered. So if you're interested, I'd love to work on setting something up. Maybe we could even use it as a sort of fundraiser and invite the students and general pubic to attend, charge a small admission fee, and put that money towards the programs. Hey Devyn! We haven't officially met but seeing how we both have soccer in common along with coaching I think we should definitely meet up. I have seen some things you've posted and I'm glad to hear you're as enthusiastic as I am. Your idea of a co-event sounds pretty enjoyable to me. I think the guys and girls both would enjoy that. One of your girls had already mentioned something to me about it so I've considered it and if you are game for it then I am as well. And the idea of it being a fundraiser is a great one as well. We could use the money coming in for new equipment and uniforms that we possibly would need. I'll definitely give you a call so that we can discuss this matter more appropriately or if I don't call you in the morning I'm sure I will see you at the game tomorrow. Oh, I'm certain they will be on board. The chance to earn bragging rights over the boys instead of spending that time doing endurance and flexibility work? Uh, yeah. But I'll talk to them about it in our morning practice just to be sure. And yes, I will definitely be at the game tomorrow to root your boys on and size up the competition of course. LOL. Best of luck to your team tomorrow, though I'm sure they'll do great. You guys aren't looking too shabby this year either though I know it's a lot of pressure with it being the first conference game and all. -Devyn Fairfax

I think the boys are going to be on board as well but we'll see about those bragging rights. You know we would like to have them as well dear. But it sounds really fun to me! I'm glad to hear that you're going to come support us at the game and we're going to start coming and supporting the girls as well. Figure it will be good for school spirit and all that so that we can show that we are unified in our sports. I usually attend all the games I can anyway so I'm sure I'll have to meet up with you at a few and be on the sidelines with you. Of course checking out our competition as well ;) It is our first conference game but I have faith in our boys so I think we're going to do great. They all seem really motivated. - Lucas Holton

We'll just have to wait and see who comes out on top. I should warn you though, I don't like to lose. Of course I can't say that I know anyone who does, honestly. It's definitely a good idea to show solidarity. I saw a few of your boys at our game yesterday. Sam's brother and a few others. But sure, you can feel free to come join me on the sidelines if you want. Two heads are better than one. Just don't try to take my whistle away from me. :) -Devyn Fairfax
