Good morning Falls Church University! My name is Devyn Fairfax and I'm very excited to be here as a new addition to the FCU faculty.

To tell you all a little bit about me, I earned my BA in Kinesiology with an emphasis on Physical Education Teaching and a minor in Coaching from Fresno Pacific University. After that, I worked with a very large law firm in Los Angeles as their corporate physical trainer for several years before returning to FPU to earn my Master of Arts in Kinesiology with a Physical Education emphasis. From there, I started teaching PE at Orange County public schools before eventually landing a position at the University of Nevada in Las Vegas working as a part-time PE instructor and a full-time trainer for their sports program. For those of you who are MMA fans, there's a slim chance that you might recognize my name as I became involved with MMA and the UFC briefly while in Las Vegas.

And now I am here with all of you lovely people!

For those of you in any of the phys ed classes here that have had TBA as instructor on your schedule and have been working under whomever happens to be available at the time, I'll be your new teacher. In addition to that, I will be working as a personal trainer with the sports program here so I may have a few of you star athletes out there assigned to me. I'll also be sponsoring the boxing club and coaching Women's Soccer and Track & Field. If you can't already tell, I like to stay busy, and I look forward to helping you all achieve and maintain peak physical fitness.

And now, to get down to business...

Women's Soccer Team:
I've looked over the stats so far for this year and you're off to a great start this season. I can see that the assistant coach has really been doing a great job with all of you so far this year. I'd like to keep our current practice schedule as is on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6pm to 8pm, but I would also like to add an hour on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 7am to 8am during which time we will do some running, maybe some kicking, and work some stairs in order to help improve our leg strength. For these meetings, instead of having you trek all the way to the field, we'll meet on the quad in front of the law center. I know that I'm arriving here just in time for a game tomorrow at 3pm, so I will see you all on the field at 1:30 so we can be warmed up and ready to go when the game begins.

Women's Track & Field Team:
We don't appear to have anything else going on until the Paul Short Invitational on the 5th of October, but I don't want us to waste this little break that we have. According to what the assistant coach has told me, we've only been meeting up on Wednesdays for two hours which, quite frankly, is nowhere near enough time. From now on, we will keep our Wednesday evening practice as is, from 6pm to 8pm, but we are also going to meet every Monday, Wednesday and Friday morning for an hour, from 7am to 8am, to go for a run. If the weather's nice, we'll meet on the footpath behind the admin building and make our way around campus from there. If the weather's not so nice, we'll meet up at the indoor track in the student fitness center.

Boxing Club:
Since I don't have an assistant coach for this group, I have no idea what you've all been up to. But I'm thinking we need to set up a meeting now that I'm here so I can find out what you guys have been doing and what you would like to do. I'm thinking maybe Friday evening around 8pm? That should give any of you who may have had to travel to out of town for an event time to get back on campus and be ready to go. If this time doesn't work for whatever reason, feel free to let me know and we'll see what we can work out as far as a reschedule. Otherwise, plan to meet in the student fitness center in the gym with all the punching bags.

Everyone's interesting once you get to know them. That's one of the great things about the world we live in. We all have an amazing history behind us if we just look around for it.

This is true. But, while not putting anyone else down, some people are more interesting than others. You are one of those.

Well, thank you. I know when to take a compliment. I just hope you still feel that way when your muscles are burning come 8am. Though I would just about bet that you probably go for a run on your drive nearly every morning.

I do run every morning. Season or not, it's a good way to keep in shape. You'll probably see me on the track in the mornings.

I would also recommend swimming if that's not something that you do already. The water can be a great form of resistance while still soothing your muscles a little bit. And just make sure you take a little time off for recovery. I personally don't run on Saturdays or Sundays but I'm out there every other day of the week, or will be, either with you guys or with track and field.

Actually, I'm not much of a swimmer. I know how but I don't do it often. I'll check that out, thanks!

Give it a try sometime. You might enjoy it. Especially in the colder months. The indoor pool is heated, after all.

Didn't we already establish I'm Russian? What is this "cold" you speak of?

Ha! Touche! But just because you can handle the cold doesn't mean that you should. It makes your muscles tense up in ways that aren't as conducive to exercise.

This is true. A heated pool is tempting as well.
