All work and no play is making me quite the homebody. I don't think I can read another baby book right now or I may go mad.

Heard about the Death Eater that was arrested and was so glad to hear it. It's a step in the right direction.

Perfect! I'm going mad too. I got so drunk yesterday I started speaking French. Let's do something, Lily love. You and me and your charming husband, what say we paint the town red and gold?

Glad I'm not alone in that. I didn't know you spoke French.

What would you want to do?

Oui, ma belle fleur. Part of a proper pureblood upbringing, along with piano and which fork to use. Only unlike all the other stupid stuff, I was always better at speaking French while drunk; still am as it turns out.

Anything but sitting around bored like I've been doing. We can drag Remus along too, probably.

I always found French to be very interesting. You play piano?

Sure. I just feel like I'm either working, reading or doing something that has to do with the baby, or sleeping, so most things would be fine with me.

Only extremely poorly. Imagine me in green velvet kid-sized dress robes, white silk cravat, being forced to have piano lessons. Imagine how well that went. My French is much better because I saw a use for it. C'est le langue de l'amour, after all.

We'll show Bambi the kind of good time he can expect once he de-wombs.

I don't think my imagination could do your attempt to learn piano justice. And true, it is a beautiful language. I wish I had the patience to learn a new language or an instrument, but I never have really.

Did you just call the baby Bambi?

I could reenact it for you with proper dramatics. You'd cry, you'd laugh, you'd give me a standing ovation.

Yeah, but it's slightly spoiled by the fact that every time I try and speak it, I hear my mother screaming at me like a banshee. Can't even use it to charm women, it's a mood killer.

Surely you've seen the film, if I've done? We watched it in Muggle Studies, I assumed you'd get the reference.

I have faith in your abilities, no worries.

That's too bad, having a nice language ruined like that.

I have seen the film, yes, when I was growing up. I suppose I was just surprised by the reference, but good one.

I'm glad to hear it. Next time you need cheering up, let me know, and I'll act out Ickle Sirius Piano Lessons for you.

I think I know more French cursewords than I know English ones, so it's at least worth something.

Thank you. May I have a gold star?

Duly noted.

Ha, really? That must be fun, knowing all those.

If you really want one, I suppose I could get you one.

It is, except sometimes you forget it's not such a rare language. One time I called Minnie a putain under my breath and I got two weeks of detention.

I do, ever so much, Lily love.

Ah, well, I'm not surprised she knows French. I suppose it's more fun when the other person has no idea what you're saying.

Alright, Sirius. You can have a big, bright gold star.

'Part of a proper pure-blood upbringing?' Don't listen to him, Lily-love, my proper pure-blood upbringing was all about learning how to play Quidditch without scaring the Muggles in the next street. He was just raised by nutters.

No Bambi, Padfoot. I remember that one - too much dying.

Okay, you lot weren't proper purebloods. You were the right sort, and therefore not proper.

Well, minus the dying bit. Really I just mean like a baby deer and who better? Marauders aren't allowed to die anyway, so it's not an issue.

Right. I learned about important things. Learning what to do if a Bludger goes through your Muggle neighbour's window will get you further in life than piano lessons ever will.

Yeah, fair point. He'll be the world's youngest Animagus - with a bit of help.

Or French. French can go sod off for all the good it's done me.

If we don't have a little fawn stumbling round by age five, then I'll consider us all failures and hand in my Marauder paraphernalia.

I dunno. I suppose it'll be useful if we ever have to chase Death Eaters across the Channel. You'll know how to ask 'did you see an evil berk in a stupid looking mask run by?' Otherwise we'd have to mime.

Lucky kid. He won't have to spend all that time in the library.

Let's hope they stay mostly on the island. Much easier to round them up that way.

We'd try to spare anyone the horrors we went through.

Alice, sometimes I feel like there's so much information and nine months isn't nearly enough time to learn it. Granted, most of it will come with experience, but I just want so much to be ready.

How are you doing?

I have already accepted that I will repeatedly drop my child on the head and there is nothing I can do about that. For now I'm just going to worry about the fact that I'm not showing. What's that about?

I'm doing well! I hit the comatose stage though. I feel a bit useless.
