[14. At Lucifer's]
[He is up again for that time of the year, more for the sweets than for the more ominous origins of the festival. But what started out as an unannounced visit to Lucifer's turned out to be a bit of an unintentional bloodbath. On hallowed grounds Michael made his presence known, and Leviathan did not give the General a chance to respond.

The Hellhounds feast on two of the unfortunate humans while the Fallen wrestles with the Archangel. The surviving humans flee from the lobby and one of the maids scrambles to the phone and dials Mr. Preston's office. She's trying not to scream as she tells him what's going on. There is an intruder on the premises who at first looked like an ordinary, harmless tax accountant in a suit and a trenchcoat, and she knows she might sound crazy but she swears there are invisible monsters - there! Did you hear that growl? - and Lucifer's guest is severely injured, bleeding out on the floor and people are dead and why are there feathers everywhere? She has no idea what to do and oh my god-]

She is a very hysterical woman, the maid is. Lucifer had no idea her voice could go that high or reach that volume. Perhaps that's what has saved her from being torn to pieces by the 'invisible monsters', though. Funny she can't see them. On the other hand, taking all the vacant space in her skull into consideration, it is not too surprising.

The woman is still screaming into the phone when he arrives on the crime scene. It looks like a battlefield. Lucifer does not believe in the hands-on approach but in this case he does not have any other choice. Grabbing Leviathan by the collar of his torn clothes, the Morningstar yanks the Gatekeeper off the Archangel to prevent further mangling of his guest.

"Down!" he says to the hounds and to Leviathan, "Stay!"

Blood and feathers everywhere - ah, doesn't that bring back old memories?

The touch of the Fallen is usually not soothing and does not bring relief from pain and does not heal; but just because they no longer pursue those goals does not mean they are incapable of stopping a body from bleeding out - it's not that hard, really.

"Come, and tell me: what brings you here, Leviathan?" the Lightbringer asks, a hint of exasperation in his voice, as he picks the angel up and carries him towards the bedroom.

To say he had a personal vendetta against Michael would be an understatement. It wasn't just about losing a pair of wings - it was the fact that Michael had stayed behind, that Michael became the General of Heaven, that Michael had betrayed Lucifer and his brothers for the sake of a God who had long forsaken them.

Leviathan sends the hounds away. They could hardly stay still with all the activity, human and beyond, going on in the house, and the blood of an angel was driving them rabid.

He follows quietly, just observing the two of them. It had only just struck him that Michael, while he had attempted to fend the Leviathan off, had not done anything to harm him. It was unusual, seeing the General like this, lacking that resolve to fight, all blood and broken bones, groaning and whimpering softly, clutching on to Lucifer as if they were...

"What happened to the real Michael?"

Hell's aristocracy would have been more than delighted to hear of the General's current state. Lucifer knows of a few who've gotten into skirmishes with the Archangel not too long ago and would have given anything to get their hands on him. However, Michael is not theirs to touch - has never been and will never be.

Not as long as Lucifer is around.

"What do you mean? He is right here."

His brows furrowed but he said nothing. Everything about Michael felt real, felt authentic. He just- Well. He was half-expecting Michael to retaliate and destroy him, or at least put up a decent fight.

"I expected more from the General. Why are you helping him? He will try to kill you when the time comes."

"Oh, you meant the General. The General got lost trying to save the Lord's flock from a heathen's touch and Heaven does not seem to care."

Lucifer's mouth curved into a small sneer when he put Michael down on the bed, uncurling bloodied fingers from his shirt, and brushed a strand of hair off the wounded angel's face.

" No, the General is not here. This is Michael. Can't you see?"

Michael's breathing was shallow. He was clearly in pain and might be still panicking a little from the unprovoked attack. Lucifer being here put his mind at ease somewhat but everything was just a blur. It did confuse him though - they seemed to know each other.

Leviathan does not see the difference between the General and the Archangel. He somewhat understands what Lucifer is saying but he isn't comfortable with this Michael walking around the Lightbringer's home.

"He will not survive the night. His condition may be righted if he is resurrected."

"To end the suffering and ease the pain? I think not."

Now that Lucifer has him under his roof, he would not let Michael go easily. It was not time yet.

"And you've never answered my question but if you go to the kitchen, the chef will be happy to cater to all the desires of your palate, sweet and savoury."

He would think that there would be a public announcement of some sort if a new general had been appointed, as unlikely as that may have been. This is playing with fire, and it is dangerous, but Lucifer should know that better than he. Lucifer should be aware of the repercussions and he should know what he is doing.

His gaze flickered from the back of Lucifer's head to the body on the bed, the not-General-Michael even though they should have been one and the same.

"I will go now." That was the main reason why he surfaced, after all, but he could sense that Lucifer wanted to be left alone with the Archangel.
