Honestly. The most matchmaking of grandmothers and the most gossipy of teenage girls could not rival the Daily Prophet.

In less scandalous news, does anyone have a good grounding in cursed objects? Or at least more than the single inadequate week we had covering the subject in Defense Against the Dark Arts? I'm organizing a charity auction for the Society for Distressed Witches and someone saw fit to donate an antique jewelry box that I am almost certain is cursed. Unless the eery glowing green light it emits is meant to be a feature.

Somebody sent a cursed object to a charity benefit? That is seriously wrong.

My hope is that they simply threw an unattractive, never-used heirloom into the donation pile thoughtlessly. I hope.

At the risk of sounding paranoid or offering a suggestion where it's not my business, you are a rather high profile figure these days. It might be worth it to have the Ministry investigate the matter. Just in case.

I really think this is just a case of a forgetful person with too many ancient family trinkets on their hands. I think my family's cellar is still full of the strangest of objets from my late Uncle Ophion. But your caution is wise and I will certainly heed it.

Please send it via owl to me and one of the cursebreakers on staff as well as myself will take a look at it, Miss Greengrass.

Do you really think that's necessary? Isn't there some surefire spell I could try?

I do, yes. And no there's not. It could be a simple, harmless spell meant to light up and scare people or it could be that once you open it, there's a blast radius of 500 meters. There is no surefire spell to try until we know what's behind it. I don't mean to frighten you, just inform.

Oh bother, I hate to cause a scene over what I'm certain is a perfectly harmless family heirloom. But if you think it necessary, of course I will defer to your expert opinion.

I assure you, this is not causing a scene. Thank you.

How very kind of you, Lady Greengrass. I must say, I'm impressed.

It's kind of you to say so. I don't think that spending an agreeable afternoon sorting through fascinating bits of arcane objects is much of a sacrifice on my part, but I like to help where I can.

I will send a member of the palace security team over shortly.

That is very chivalrous of you, but I've been instructed to send it along to the Ministry. This experience does make me wonder what's lurking in the Greengrass family vaults. I suspect there may be a few items with less than entirely savory properties.

Thank you, that's very thoughtful. I hope we don't have any similar unpleasantness with the wedding gifts.

Haven't you heard? That's the only thing the Prophet is any good at.

We ought to start a rival publication, perhaps competition would cause them to raise their journalistic standards.
