Is it too soon to contemplate costumes for the coming round of Hallowe'en galas and parties? It seemed like every other person was dressed as Merlin or Morgan le Fay last year. I mean to be more creative.

The Prophet continues its race to the bottom, I see. Unsurprising, but disappointing.

Thank you for the vote of confidence. I'm turning to my old History of Magic textbooks for inspiration. So far all I've discerned is that there is a long list of historical personages who wore black robes everyday and shunned whimsy of every kind. Admirable enough, but it does not lend itself to ready costumes.

Try something Muggle, then.

What would that even entail? Would I need to acquire trousers of some kind? The ideal for a costume is that people recognize who you are trying to be.

There are plenty of famous Muggles and Muggle figures out there, and I'm sure you're up for the challenge. Why don't you go to a Muggle costume shop and see what some of the options are?

Is that a dare? I can't imagine your father or my parents being delighted if I sallied forth as a famous Muggle.

Yes. I have gone as a Muggle several times.

This comes as no surprise. Perhaps I might be tempted by a particularly compelling female ruler. Muggle history is refreshingly full of them.

There are plenty for you to choose from. Perhaps Cleopatra.

Hmm. I have always admired her steely determination. Better the asp than participating in a foolish man's pomp and circumstance.

Then there you go. A costume idea that has not been done to death at court.

I never would have thought I would get inspiration from you. How interesting. I do enjoy surprises.

I am, apparently, full of them.
