Guys, it's raining here in Chicago. I think that the city missed the memo about it being spring break.

Are you there, Cadets? It's me, Kitty.

In all seriousness, I have a question for you. Obviously, you all checked the yes box with Rogers asked you if you wanted to sign up, but I'm still on the fence and have yet to answer either way. So... I guess my question is - would you check yes again, knowing what you know and having lived through those early morning wake-up calls and borderline abusive training sessions?

I always thought that I'd be saying yes immediately, but now that it's actually an option and I'm weighing it against other options, it's actually a lot harder to decide than I anticipated.

So. Pros? Cons? I promise that if you say something negative I won't go around telling everyone. What happens in responses to my journal stays in responses to my journal.

Corbo. Truth or dare?

Can't sleep, Kit Kat?

I don't know. What are we playing for? Also dares aren't nearly as much fun when the people aren't in the same place so we might need to just play Truth tonight.

My bedroom is oppressively pink and my brain won't shut off. Also, there's a bird right outside my window who doesn't seem to understand that night time is when he's supposed to be quiet.

You have a point. And we're playing for... I don't know. I hadn't thought of that.

It's your room. Why not change it if you're done with the pink? As far as the bird, well, those things can be little bitches.

I don't have much I could offer up as a reward even if I wanted to other than spending more time with yours truly, which is something that I give out freely.

We'll wait until proper Truth or Dare to play for something.

You pick the game, you ask the first question, lady.

Because I'm not here often enough to really justify repainting. And I'm pretty sure that as soon as I did repaint it, I'd immediately be all bummed because it's no longer the room of my childhood.

Plan.

Okay. Why are you up so late?

Then buy an eyemask and some earplugs. Bingo bango no more issues.

Ever consider that I've been to bed and gotten up already?

Nah. The real answer is that I've been trying to study but then I get distracted being mad at Adrian for not telling me he was sick again until after the healers diagnosed him and fixed him.

Why did you decide to play this game with me?

That seems like it's just inviting trouble. Bobby and Sam are here. They'd be on me before I knew they were even in the room.

I considered that for about two seconds. How's he feeling?

Because I already know everyone else's deep, dark secrets. And I had a hunch you'd be awake.

If you were a tree, what kind of tree would you be?

I feel so honored that you're talking to me instead of one of your boyfriends.

Resting from being cured of double pneumonia.

I seriously doubt that you know everyone's secrets, but your hunch did pay off.

Um. Your questions assumes that I have any sort of knowledge about trees. I would be some sort of Canadian tree that's difficult to touch. Probably, like, a pine or something.

How about you? What sort of tree would you be?

I mostly just use them for sex.

That's good.

You're right. I don't. But I do know more about them.

Oh, no fair, turning it around on me. I would probably be... I don't know. a bonsai or something else that's tiny.

What's your favorite color?

Good to know that you've got that position in your entourage filled.

Yeah, well, he still should have told me before rather than after but. Whatever.

I'm the new kid, and I'm foreign. I'm supposed to be dark and mysterious.

You might talk too much for those trees. Aren't they supposed to be serene?

Whatever color the unstable molecule clothing comes in. But I'm partial to burgundy.

Don't make assumptions. There's always room for more.

Canada isn't foreign. It's Canada.

I'll have you know, sir, that I am fully capable of serenity.

John. But really Ringo.

What are you wearing (wink wink)?

What sort of harem are you collecting, kitten?

Nope. It's foreign. I'm foreign. And mysterious.

I just don't think you could keep the serenity around long enough.

Ringo is never the answer.

Let's see: force field (check), unstable molecule boxers (check) and shirt (check). Nothing out of the ordinary.

I would turn that one back, but I don't want to become the school creep so soon.

What's your favorite animal?

I prefer to think of it as a collection of minions rather than a harem.

That's right. You keep that dream alive.

Oh, I'm sure I could. I have amazing willpower.

Rude.

If it's any consolation, there are about thirty other school creeps so at least you wouldn't be alone.

The platypus. It's as though it was cobbled together from spare parts and it will fuck you up.

What's your favorite movie?

Minions suggest sinister purposes. Do you have sinister purposes?

I am that dream.

Thirty other school creeps just for you or in general?

I never think of animals whose names I can't spell, but that's a good choice.

Transformers because robots are awesome. It has nothing to do with Megan Fox. Really.

What's your favorite band?

Always.

Thirty that I know of. I'm sure there are more, though. So don't worry. If you creep, at least you aren't creeping alone.

Robots are pretty awesome.

There was this really bad Nirvana cover band that played at my cousin's Bar Mitzvah. I'd have to go with them, just because they were so hilarious. Otherwise... Metric.

How old were you when you manifested?

Maybe we should form a club. A club for creepers. It would be easier to avoid us then.

Robots are fucking amazing.

idk why you would have a Nirvana cover band in the first place. Jeez. Pain. I haven't heard of Metric.

I was 7.

How good are my chances of getting promoted to minion?

Maybe. But since you have yet to prove yourself a true creeper, I'm not sure if you'd even be in the club.

Right? Metric is a Canadian band. I thought everyone in Canada knew everyone else?

I was 13. You win.

Hard to say. You have to pass a series of tests. There are written, oral and physical exams that have to be done before I can give you a concrete answer.

If you could be anywhere else right now, where would you be and what would you be doing?

Well a creeper wouldn't admit to his creepee that he was creeping, would he?

That rumor was started by the popular kids. The rest of us are ignored in the corner like lamers.

I usually win that game.

I might fail the written.

Anywhere that's not in my field and doing something normal. Like holding someone's hand or hugging someone or something. Petting a goddamn puppy even.

If you could fix one thing in the whole of human history, what would it be?

He might if he got called on it.

I would offer to tutor you for the written, but that might be too close to cheating.

Always go for the goddamn puppy.

The Holocaust seems like a pretty solid answer... but honestly, I'd be wary of "fixing" anything. It's because awful, horrible things happened that we hopefully won't be doing those awful, horrible things again. There's no telling what would change in the now if something like that had never happened in the past.

It's totally cheating if you tutor me for a test you're giving.

I'm pretty sure the Holocaust is the default answer to that question.

Kinda hard to be any other way considering.

Then I won't.

It definitely is. Especially for Jews. Especially for Jews whose grandparents were there. I'd be disowned if I didn't answer that.

I don't know. I get pretty mad at cheaters.

My dad sort of does, but he's a lawyer, so...

Morally. Hm. Probably just the premarital sex, really. I'm a surprisingly moral person. Though I guess shaking down other students and being one of the heads of a clandestine pastry mafia might be a little bit iffy, morally-speaking.

So, you said you can extend the force field, right? And you can't feel anything from the outside... but if it's extended, can you feel things from the inside? Also, feel free to tell me to stop talking about this if you don't want to talk about it, because even though I'm curious, I don't want to piss you off by going too far with the questioning.

Even if you helped them cheat?

I guess I just mean that I doubt you've broken any laws that wouldn't also be a moral no-no. All the little shit's just that. Minor.

I don't think either of those things are morally wrong.

It's not like I'm letting things into the field. Usually when I extend it, it's extending around something (or someone but that's totally bad business) but whatever it surrounded isn't in here with me. If that makes sense. I get lost in a lot of the technical jargon the people at Hull House would use when they were doing experiments.

And you're not even close to pissing me off questions.

What's one thing you want to do before you die?

No, I wouldn't do it again.

Frankly, I mostly signed up to annoy my parents. Now they're dead, and I'm stuck being told what to do constantly, which is grating even if you don't normally have trouble with authority figures.

What about valuable lessons learned, experiences that you've had, etc? Anything redeeming at all in it for you?

I think that my main issue is with not being a free agent anymore and having to follow orders even if I don't necessarily agree with them... though that's pretty far away. I still don't know how comfortable I am with that reality.

I suppose I like the additional fighting skills I've picked up. That's about it.

If you chafe under authority and orders you don't agree with, I definitely don't recommend signing up.

Good to know.

I don't really chafe under authority... I just have some reservations about being so completely controlled. I like being an autonomous being, to some degree. I mean, not that I'm running around breaking laws, but there's something to be said for being able to do what you think is right instead of just toeing the line.

Thanks for your input and honesty!

How are you handling the whole "do what we say when we say and how we say" aspect? I'm sort of worried... it's not that I don't trust SHIELD, but I think my biggest hang-up right now involves not being able to think for myself, or I guess... I guess I can still think for myself, but I'd just be discouraged from verbally expressing those thoughts.

I'm trying to weigh the good stuff against what I think is a loss of a lot of personal freedom. Though I guess that it's not as much lost freedom as someone who doesn't get into the Cadet program, since higher ranking officers don't usually have to shut up and do the grunt work as much as enlisted people do, but it's still something.

So how do I say this without sounding like a total tool...

Well. I mean, I deal with that pretty well. My dad was pretty strict, and I've always sort of liked having a set plan of what I'm supposed to do, when and all that so I find it comforting even though it is truly grueling work a lot of it.

It's all about how comfortable you are with dedicating yourself to something like that.

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

Ali
[info]_kitzilla_
2011-04-09 09:01 pm UTC (link)
Does it make a difference to you that the set plan isn't your own set plan?

I think I'm pretty comfortable with dedicating myself to something that in the end is probably going to help a lot of people... and I mean, you all seem pretty well-adjusted, considering the loss of personal freedom that I'm thinking I'm just blowing up in my mind. But then there's always the what if's... what if I get an order that I'm morally opposed to and still have to follow through with it? I don't know if that's even likely to happen, but it's a lot more likely to happen if SHIELD does actually own my ass. And I won't be able to say no without facing some pretty crappy consequences.

That's a good point. I like discovering that I can do things that I don't think I can do. What's your take on the whole "think what we want you to think" part of it? Is it as bad as I think it is, or am I just building it up in my head and it's really not some kind of big brainwashing and free thought destroying scenario?
