Oh dear. Many of you might have heard about the Pope's recent statements, which all sorts of people have interpreted as saying that everyone, even atheists can go to Heaven. Some of my sisters have even agreed or said they might be open to the idea. To be honest, I do like the thought of a world where no one goes to Hell. But I can't say that I agree with that interpretation. This fellow here puts it into words well, in that I think Pope Francis was emphasizing that all humans are good and that we shouldn't draw lines between ourselves, between the saved and unsaved.  Everyone can do good even if they don't always follow the doctrines of the Church. They (and I) would prefer that people did, obviously, but we are all fallible, and I'd prefer not to go back to the days of burning heretics.

That seems to have irritated the Church, or at least some of the old guard. There'll be an interesting power struggle going on. It's enough to make me wish I was still male, as I was a few decades ago, since I'd love to be privy to it all. They don't tell nuns anything, which is part of the problem. Honestly, I know that I'm old-fashioned, but even I've grown frustrated with the Church as of late. I can't imagine it presents an inviting picture to non-Catholics.
