003; 23 September 1979;
I wish to follow Miss Sullivan's announcement to recommend the Brookstanton Memorial Library's "Moor and Fen, Valley and Glen: The Founders" exhibit. It is no secret to most people that I am a scholar of the history of Wizarding Britain, and so I have a natural disposition towards enjoying such events, however the exhibit is very well done and I will be taking my daughters to the exhibit in order that they may better appreciate the history of Hogwarts when they attend.

It is clear when one reads the paper that these are difficult times. Far from being unimportant or frivolous, a scholar of history knows that history can prove a navigational tool as we chart new and untested waters. Our history defines us as a people: It is who we are and why we are the way we are.

This exhibit is only one piece of our history, but for many of us whether we read Punnet's extraordinary detailed and well footnoted Hogwarts: A history or simply attended during our school, Hogwarts remains central to who we are. Friends made, connections forged, lessons learned, all of these pieces help to define our individual choices and decisions and thus define the the people as well as the individual. I encourage you to attend and to learn more about four individuals whose friendships and connections have so deeply impacted Wizarding Britain.

[Warded to Death Eaters]

Many of you have already visited this exhibit. My urging is even stronger for each of you whether history be your preference or not. You have each been chosen to serve the Dark Lord as we seek to preserve and restore our world.

We do not need to look far on the journals to see poor behaviour, foul language, frivolity, and the continual creep of Muggle influences into even those of Magical birth. There are individuals who would fail even a History of Magic OWL exam and yet can go on and on about Muggle lifestyles. These forces corrode the fabric of our society and leave us without the common bonds of tradition and family that are so essential to a peaceful society.

Each of you are of Magical birth and you have been chosen because the Dark Lord believes that you bring something essential to his plan. This includes training and battles, yes, but being a member of the Dark Lord's army carries beyond this.

It is your responsibility to the Dark Lord as well as to your friends, family, and colleagues to set an excellent example of what a witch or wizard should be like. Consider this in your private conversations, your evenings at pubs, your extracurricular activities, and your public behaviour upon the journals. Are you displaying a standard of behaviour that is exemplary?

We may lose sight in the battle, the injuries, the duels, that we are in the middle of a war against our culture and our history. As many Muggleborns enter our world, rather than fully adopting the rich heritage presented to them, they wish to cling to their own lesser heritage and share it with those of magical birth, distracting them from their own heritage. Thus our knowledge of culture becomes a weapon in this war. I want each of you to consider what you are doing in your daily life to defend against this onslaught of outside influences on our culture. What are you doing to improve others knowledge of Wizarding traditions and history? What are you doing to discourage the adoption of Muggle distractions?

I do not require an answer, but a well thought out one will demonstrate that you are aware of our Lord's ultimate goals and have considered these issues and such devotion will be noted.

I agree whole-heartedly with your every word. Importance undoubtedly rests with how we conduct ourselves in physical battle, but I believe far more remains with ensuring the threading of our society is not coming unravelled.

To have Muggle influences corrupt - for those of Magical birth to turn their back on their raising and to recess into the lesser, indolent habits of the Muggle world - is beyond reprehensible. Ours is the superior lifestyle, which needs little saying for how it has withstood time, and all while the Muggles carry on warring amongst themselves with little to show for their ways of life beyond a rampant generation of uncultured, unpolished, and ignorant youth. And, these habits are steadily increasing within our own realm the more mud the impure have their say.

If that is what the Wizarding World is facing, then we have much work to do to see that we are not dragged down by a culture so egregious and so beneath us. I, for one, am not willing to merely watch this happen.

In a similar vein, I have a matter I wish to discuss with you. Progress with research continues to yield more answers, and I have faith that we will be able to present our Lord with that which he seeks in short time.

There is something else. If I may request to meet with you, I can promise your time will not be wasted. There is an opportunity with this upcoming Masquerade, and I believe it is ours to seize.

I believe it quite possible that the Muggle world has disintegrated into further chaos even within my short lifetime and it would not surprise me if they manage to destroy themselves. If the influences continue to penetrate our world how can we hope for any better for our children?

We all have much work to do.

Good.

I am available at three o'clock this afternoon. Will that suffice?
