Sir, if I may be so bold - I would like to request a few days off. My father passed away this afternoon, and my mother needs me with her. Of course, I will work as many hours as the DMLE wishes me to in order to make up for this.

My condolences. Your father was a good man. Bereavement leave granted. Take a week. You will have to make up what you missed for training, but it is not a time sensitive matter.
