Who: Riley and Tao
What: an unexpected visit
Where: Tao's office

Tao had not gotten a lot of sleep. Thankfully, he did not need a lot. He'd cleaned meticulously of course, then sat on the phone all night. His source did not like to have any suspicion on them that they even liked vampires let alone were indebted to one. So a late night phone call was pushing things. Unfortunately, he did not have a lot of time to placate her. After explaining the problem, and promising this was a final favor she had relented and headed out to the church in the morning. He had laid in bed, no not a coffin, and stared at the ceiling. Usually a good couple of hours in the room, even if it didn't last as long as he would like, were relaxing. He'd instead found he let his guard down more then he anticipated and the shifter had garnered more respect then he had previously expected to give. Worse yet, he wasn't all that sure the rule of keeping things in the room would stick, as they had finished out negotiations inside.

That was upsetting as well. He'd had no problem taking out tribute. He had purposefully given the new leader the information to see how he would deal with it. Seeing if he would reach for that small bit of power, or even more. It would be telling on his position as leader and give Tao some weak points to use. Still, he had planned on enjoying the negotiations. There was nothing like riling up a shifter. Even the idiot power hungry ones.

Deciding sleep wasn't coming he'd headed into work, checking over inventories, new information and new hires. The club was doing well, they had a steady stream of regulars as well as those coming for the thrill of seeing a vampire. He drew up the new treaty and even slipped in a clause regarding collars to see if it would be noticed. The phone call from his plant came early and she had information. Not that it was good, she promised to stay on it. He explained it wasn't necessary, but she felt obligated. If only to spare the pack and vampires more problems.

He accepted a glass of blood to drink, from a blood bank few knew he owned and sat back to rest. Riley should be calling soon so he could pass on the information. The phone call, Tao mused, would be short and to the point. The shifter did not seem to enjoy talking to him much. The thought made his mouth twitch and he almost chuckled to himself.

Someone whistled from a window as Riley walked past. He flushed, and very nearly missed what Tao was saying. "It felt a little like that." He said slowly, "He kept meeting her eyes and giving her these long stares. Fuckin' creepy." Riley had interacted with very few humans in his life, so it was news to him to hear that they came with supernatural abilities. Humans seemed to be becoming more and more of a threat every day. Riley followed behind Tao, he had insisted on coming with him, but that didn't mean that he would barge into everything headfirst.

Tao's lip twitched at the cat call. He refrained from making a comment and instead watched the house. "We will have to look farther into this man then. He could be a bit more dangerous than we thought." He held up a hand for Riley to wait and went to the side door, opening it slowly. Stepping inside he found Marie standing there shaking and holding the blood. Leaning back out he gestured for Riley to follow.

"There are more clothes in the bedroom if you need them." First he ran a hand down Marie's face and waited for her to relax before taking the blood from her.

Riley found it creepy that the human was holding a bag of blood, but he said nothing, instead he passed by Tao and entered into the bedroom. He rifled through the drawers for a few minutes. He managed to find a green button up shirt that would fit him, but the jeans he had stolen were still his best bet. The heat of his skin had already managed to dry the fabric, anyway, so it didn't matter anymore. He emerged from the bedroom with his hands in the pockets.

"I can consult my pack's spiritual leaders about these humans with powers." He said evenly. "We have magics to see into a soul, I'm sure we can figure out the extent of their abilities with minimal risk." He frowned at the bag of blood. "Isn't that disgusting? It's stagnant, I can smell it from here. There's no life in that bag."

Tao let Marie sit and slowly come back to herself. Taking the bag he turned to the cupboard to get a glass. He spoke as he prepared the blood and set it in the microwave. "Its not possible to get fresher without standing in the blood bank waiting. It will do." It would take more than usual bur he had gotten used to eating more often to cover it. "I don't think it wise to take a human to your territory, even one that can be trusted." he added with a small nod to Marie. He drank the glass down quickly then went to the fridge for more.

"Obviously not!" Riley exclaimed, his nostrils flaring. He would have been exiled from his pack just for suggesting such a thing. "But vampires aren't the only supes that have sensory abilities. If we knew where that man was going to be for an extended amount of time, they could focus on his position during a ceremony and sense his energy." He ran his fingertips over his chin for a moment and then he snapped his fingers and looked up. "He's a pastor, isn't he? They do all those speeches and sermons. If he's standing behind a pulpit for an hour, my people could definitely focus on him." He spoke quickly, he wanted to make sure that Tao understood him before the mortal woman truly came to his senses. He didn't need a human know about the shifters, and Tao was the only vampire who needed to know.

"You could get fresher." Riley prompted, raising up off his heels briefly. "For fuck's sake Tao, if you won't do the sensible thing and go out and get it fresh, at least take it from the woman. You look like death. Fuck, I'll give you some of mine, I'll put it in a fucking shot-glass for you, stick a cocktail umbrella in it."

Tao nodded, "Depending on how exact his position needs to be, we could get the coordinates in advance." He looked at Marie then ti Riley before taking his glass and heading to the adjacent living room.

"I am assuming your magicks are not meant to be public knowledge." hecexplained. He trusted Marie, but he did not share all of his information as well. He gave a growl and shook his head, "I do not feed. I told you that." he bit off. Every family of vampires had something. An animal to call, an ability, and with both came a drawback. There were few left of his family and for good reason.

"Stupid vampire." Riley muttered as he followed Tao into the other room. He shook his head, he didn't understand how Tao could be hungry, be offered what would really satisfy him, and then not take it. If Riley had been starving and Tao had offered him a chunk of his arm - knowing that it would grow back due to those freakish vampire healing powers - Riley would have gladly eaten it. Well, perhaps not. It was still stupid. It was just blood.

"There's no reason for her to know anything." Riley rumbled, and took a seat on a couch, draping himself across the surface like a lazing lion. "She did her job well, if she could just get a schedule for that man, we'll be able to pinpoint him." He rolled his shoulders back, "The most pressing problem now is that she promised to give him your fangs."

Tao rubbed at his forehead and finished the last of the glass. "The less she knows the better. For her as well." Leaning forward he put the glass down on the coffee table. "Hmm, well, as I doubt they would know who's fangs, that shouldn't be an issue. I have several kept from punishments the Council has doled out." He stared into the kitchen to see if Marie was up yet then leaned his head back and closed his eyes. "So, we need fangs, set her on her way, I'll need to stay at the house for awhile. She gets us the schedule and then we work on a lure to get them somewhere where we can get them exposed. That about cover it?"

Riley looked up at Tao with fully human eyes. "I guess it does." He replied with a small shrug of his shoulders. He raised a hand to the collar of the shirt and plucked at it - it was an unfamiliar, higher-quality fabric. He looked down at his finger tips, there was still a little grime on them from the street, and he wiped it off on his upper thigh. He looked back up at Tao and licked his upper lip. "How are you feeling now?" He asked.

	"We should be ready to leave as soon as Marie is set." He answered. He could travel, and that was good enough. "Do you need transportation out of the city?" He lifted his head and blinked. "Nah. I can make it out myself. I'll take the clothes off before I go, and you can have some jeans that are stretched-out-as-fuck-all for your collection." Riley grinned, but that expression quickly slipped away as he recognized the dizzy look on the vampire's face. "Tao." He said softly, shifting into an upright position on the couch so that there would be space. "Come sit, you still look like death."

	Tao frowned but shook his head. "I am dead, little wolf. I do think I need to check on Marie. Feel free to take the clothes, or, shred at your convenience." He dismissed. Marie stood and hummed to herself as she cleaned up the counter. Once it was wiped down she walked to the living room, standing in the doorway. "So, does silver kill shifters?" Rejected again, Riley frowned as the human woman appeared at the front of the room. "None of your business, bitch." He replied, not bothering to hide his disdain for the woman. He rose to his feet, if only to reclaim the advantage in height that he had on both the human and the vampire. "You did a nice little job back there, vamp-bait." He said, a compliment and yet his tone made it sound like an insult. "I can't wait to pull that motherfucker's lungs out through his dick." He growled.

"Marie, you will have to trust me when I say that there is no reason for hostility right now. We need to head back to the house."

Marie smiled at Riley. "Full human here, so it would only be your kind that are bitches." She looked over to Tao. "Sorry, I can trust you don't hurt humans, that you'll help Jeanne, but that's as far as it goes. I checked you out, as soon as Jeanne started living with you. I know all about your 'family'. But hey, you helped so I have no problems with you Tao. Don't make a problem."

"You're awfully squishy to have such a mouth on you-" Riley began, his shoulders tensing, ready to step towards the woman, but then she mentioned having read up on Tao, and the anger in Riley's eyes was quickly replaced with confusion. He looked at the vampire sideways and frowned. Riley did not take a step back, he wouldn't give the human woman that, but he did step sideways, towards Tao. "I'm going back to the woods, I'll let you know what they say." He fell silent, wanting to say more, but not willing to do so, especially not with the human woman in the room.

He surged forward and pushed past Marie, passing through the doorway and into the bedroom. He undressed quickly and left the clothes folded on the dresser, and shifted into the great golden wolf. That accomplished, he bounded out of the bedroom, out of the safehouse, and out of the city as fast as his legs would take him.

Tao stiffened slightly but didn't say anything. His eyes slid towards Riley and he gave a nod. "I will set up the information." He waited for Riley to leave the house before stepping forward to Marie. "We need to speak. Now." He put things away and then headed to the car. The ride back to the house was not silent but was still tense.

He let her go with the fangs, and his car. He'd set his own rumors out of his disappearance to help her get in farther but he didn't want to discuss the shifters and would not give her any real information. He did give her something about a new leader, hoping that the pastor would think that meant things were up in the air and weak at the moment. More information to come when he spoke to Riley. Then he headed to bed, dismissing William and the offer of a drink to just pass out in the bed.
