Mary was napping on the sofa in Mephisto's home. Well, their home. She was dreaming of him, just a simple and sweet thing where they were cuddling on the same sofa that supported her weight in that moment. A sunbeam was warming her arms and stomach, and she rolled over a bit, smiling. Pulling a recently-finished blanket over her shoulders, she curled up into a tiny ball of contented slumber.

It had been a couple hours since Mephisto had gone to reverse the spell on his soul and golem-body - having gone to the one place he felt comfortable leaving the past behind, Bulgaria - and when he burned the body, he felt a strangeness to him. The body seemed to carry with it all the remaining corruption he'd accrued in the past few thousand years, the part of it that hadn't left with the purification spell. Though he couldn't see it, he could feel the weight of his talons, and the lightness of his wings. He summoned clothes onto his body and teleported immediately home, walking weightlessly and quietly to where Mary was. He could hear her, and smell her, and feel her like he had forgotten he could in his true form. He slipped down to take a seat before the couch, and ran his fingertips - minding his claws - through her soft, thick hair. He knew his voice would still be a terrible thing, so he merely whispered, "I believe you've changed me, my dear Miss Mary."

It was a good way to be woken up. The voice was quiet, and filled with love. The fingers in her hair made her smile, arching up into their touch. She knew the house was warded, so the thought of something besides Mephisto entering didn't cross her mind. Her eyes slowly opened, and she gasped.

"Mephisto? I - are you in - but no, you don't have - oh." She giggled a bit, sitting up and taking his hand into hers. Kissing his knuckles, she laughed. "I'm glad I knew it was you right away, or I would have been upset."

"Raziel. I believe someone may have let Mephistopheles go the way of Aristotle." And good riddance, he thought. While he wasn't entirely certain he preferred this permutation of himself, he couldn't deny who or what he was. "How different am I?" His hair was long - down to his abs at the least, but it was no longer the deep, rich black-brown it had been. It was a rich, multifaceted gold, his eyes were not the blank, full-sclera white they were prior to his turn to humanity, but a light, blind blue, focusing on nothing, but obviously facing her lips. His wings - out for the fact that they could be - were still sooty, extremely dirty, but he felt that the soot was shaking off far easier than it had prior to his stint as a mortal.

"Well, your hair is still long, but it's golden. Your eyes are blue, but sky blue, not ocean blue. And your wings I'll take care of. They're sooty, so I don't know what color they are." She wondered if she'd be able to kiss him. Mephisto had been so worried about that. She couldn't tell if Raziel couldn't see - another of Mephisto's worries - but she chose to chance it. Wrapping her arms around his shoulders, she pressed her lips to his and pulled him close.

It was one of his first concerns to keep the talisman he'd made in his mortal year to protect against the highly acidic saliva and other bodily fluid he'd produced since his fall, and had he no control over his heart as it was, it would have leaped straight into his throat with her kiss, for fear it didn't work. To his benefit, it did, well and perfectly. He pushed a bit deeper into the kiss, running a hand gently through her hair, careful of his talons still. He whispered against her lips, "I can tell you're smiling." And he couldn't help but do the same. It meant more than anything to feel her smile, if he couldn't see it. Raziel took her hands into his and whispered, "I still love you."

"You're smiling too," she murmured, tracing his lips with a fingertip. "You'd better still love me. I don't know what I'd do if you didn't." Her eyes had teared up at the thought of him not, and she sniffed hard to keep herself from crying. There was no need, and it would simply upset him. "You're still gorgeous. I don't think you can be anything but wonderful." Running her fingers over his wings, she chuckled. "If you'd like, I can clean those for you." Moving her fingers up to his hair, she ran her fingers through it, pushing it out of his face. "Your eyes are so pretty. Is this what you looked like before?"

"I believe so. I can't see myself. Without claws, of course. And I could, of course, see things." His wings ruffled at her touch, sending a small cloud of soot up against the hardwood, which he immediately disappeared so he didn't make a mess of things. "And I would very much appreciate it, if you don't mind awfully." He kissed her cheek. "Oh, Mary, I could never stop loving you. I have one thing to ask you before you go off to start playing groomer." He smiled, still knelt by the couch, holding her hands, but he moved his thumb and forefinger delicately over her ring finger, and around it, he summoned a lovely, gold and diamond band, understated and humble, but still obviously picked specifically to suit her - it was delicate, with a heart-cut diamond, and her name engraved on the inner band. "Be my wife. I know I can be insufferable and impossible to be around at times. But you've seen the worst of me, and loved me even then. You've been patient with me over this past year. Please, I could not imagine loving anyone deeper than I love you." His voice was deep, raw and untethered. To the first man, it had been terrifying. But as opposed to his demonic tone, his showed no malice of contempt. It was simply powerful.

She was giggling at the wing ruffle when he summoned the ring around her finger. Her jaw dropped for a moment before she laughed and burst into tears at the same time. "Oh, Raziel, you barely have to ask. I'm already yours, and I have been since I fell in love with you." She leaned her forehead against his, smiling. "I'm just glad you still love me. I was so worried for a moment there." Her fingers ran over his cheekbones, his chest, almost as if she were the blind one and not him. "I don't know what I'd do if you sent me away now."

"You wouldn't ever have to fear that," Raziel whispered, kissing her cheeks gently, and then her eyelids and her forehead. "I've loved you this long, and this love within me is enough to sustain me for an eternity of lifetimes. Each one of them, you will share with me." He slowly raised her hand to his lips and closed his useless eyes as he left a kiss there. "Blond, you say." He said, just to be sure he'd heard her right. What made him ask was that his hair had entirely slipped off his shoulders and mostly into his face.

"The ring promises that, and I'll hold you to it." She smiled when he kissed her hand. "Yes, blond. More golden, though. There's so many shades of blond in your hair that it's impossible to describe just one." She moved his hair away from his face, tucking it behind his ears. "It's also stubborn, apparently, and likes being in your way."

"Always has been like that, the darker it was, the more manageable, to my contempt," He chuckled, kissing her cheek again. "You wouldn't dare let a blind man cut his own hair, would you?" He joked, hesitant to let her hands go, for fear he'd lose sight of her.

"I'll cut it for you." She moved closer to him, kneeling on the floor as well, arms around his shoulders. She let her head rest against his neck, just content to sit for a moment. "I'll take care of you, just like you take care of me." It was at the back of her mind, a curiosity about how Raziel would make it so she could live forever, but she didn't mind. She trusted him with every fiber of her being, every bit of her soul, and she chuckled at him. "You're stronger looking."

"Oh?" He didn't know what she meant by that, but he didn't care overmuch. He held her close and kissed her neck and cheek. "I feel lighter than I can even remember being. Mary, I give you all the credit for that. Without your love, who knows how I could have been at the end of my year."

She'd meant that his muscles were a bit more obvious, and he was more on the swimmer's side of thin. Chuckling at his words, she sighed when he kissed her. "You make it sound like loving you is a chore, Raziel. For me, loving you then and now is as natural as breathing. I simply do it." She smiled and was still snuggled close to him. "At this rate, we'll never get you cleaned up."

"Before I start getting it in my mind to show you precisely how deeply I love you, let's start on the wings," He chuckled, slipping away, taking his hand away from hers to run it over her face, grinning when he felt her lips upturned. "I will find a way to see you again, Mary, but for now, you'll have to forgive my slightly more tactile approach."

"We'll do your wings and hair, and then you can impress me with how much you love me." She was beaming when he touched her, and she smiled even more when he mentioned seeing again. "Only if you promise when you see again to still touch me as much as you're doing now."

It was with some reluctance that she moved off of his lap to get her supplies, but when she settled down behind him with her comb and bottle, she grinned. Running her fingers over his shoulder to let him know she was there, she started in on cleaning his wings. "Still beautiful," she murmured.

"I promise that," Raziel said with a nod, turning his head when she walked off, following her sounds as he rested his hands in his lap. Perhaps he could find a way to trim his claws down, too. They were diamond-hard but that didn't stop him from considering something to the tune of acid baths and diamond-dust files. He shook his head with a smile as he considered it. He would, in the meanwhile, find a way to dull them enough where they wouldn't harm her if he accidentally brushed his hands against her in their sleep.

When she returned, and started in on cleaning off the soot, he chuckled, "You? I would hope so, I only saw you this morning!" He had actually spent most of his morning soaking in all he could of her, committing her every movement to memory. He couldn't help but shiver when the water hit the flesh under the feathers, however, and he laughed. "I think with a year of disuse, they've become oversensitive."

She laughed. "I was talking about you, silly!" She'd been reaching for her brush when she noticed his shiver. "Oh, I'm sorry!" Leaning forward she kissed his back, his feathers, nuzzling them with her cheek. She ignored the soot that transferred to her own skin, instead starting in with her brush. She was grinning, every now and then leaning forward to kiss his back, his neck.

Raziel shuddered out another, altogether indulgent sound when she kissed back. "Oh," he murmured, arching his back, stretching out his wing for her, "I believe I can forgive you," he grinned a little. "Maybe it's just all of me that feels overly sensitive. Without my human shell, I've become soft!" He closed his eyes and simply reveled in the caring, sweet way she took special care to be gentle. Magdala finally hopped down off her perch and started helping preen, chattering at Mary.

"Now now, Maggie, you have to share my wings, same as the rest of me. Silly bird."

"You don't have to forgive me right away. I can think of some ways I can make it up to you. If you want. And you've always been soft, at least to me." She chuckled when Maggie came over to help. She didn't speak bird, but it didn't take a genius to see she was jealous. "Thank you for helping me," she beamed. Reaching out, she started to gently scritch the bird behind the neck - the only place most birds couldn't reach to preen themselves - and she chuckled when the bird fluffed her feathers, leaning forward more so Mary had easier access.

"Oh, we're getting to know each other," Mary grinned. She offered Maggie a bit of her hair to groom, kissing her lightly on the beak. But she leaned back and laughed brightly at his word choice. "Can I be there? That seems like something to see."

Raziel brightened at her laugh, wings ruffling again, and were immediately preened back down by Magdala. "Oh, I have no doubt you'll be there when he sees me. He comes to see you first, you know." He wondered if that would change now that he had. Either way, it would be a fun moment, and hopefully one that would be memorable.

After a while of grooming, the color started showing through. At first, he was a bit apprehensive. What if the soot was just going to hold fast like it often had? But that proved to be a moot point. His wings were a gray-blue, with shots of black over the top ridge of each feather, giving his wings a mottled, muted eggshell tone. Even the second set had returned, smaller and tucked under the first, the same color as the main set.

"We're friends. Sometimes I think looking at what you were hurt him more than it hurt you," she murmured. "He loves you so much."

Beaming at the color of his wings, she nuzzled them again. "Almost done, then I'll get my shears and we'll work on your hair." She started in on the next wing, whistling lightly to Maggie.

Magdala whistled back and Meph tucked his right wings against his back, extending his left wings. "I'm sure it did. He's so empathetic, it's a pain to see anyone else in pain. I suppose that's why he cares so greatly for mothers." He kept his eyes closed, simply enjoying the sound and sensation of her working out all the soot and smoothing out each feather. He'd wondered if he'd gone through a molt incorporeally, because they felt a lot less itchy when he'd felt his wings a year previous.

"I'll have him as my best man. He has never given up on me. He was with me, even though I had never felt him."
