Basic Info Real Name: Anna Marie Adler-Darkhölme Nicknames: Anna, Annie, A.M. Affiliation: n/a Occupation: SHIELD Cadet Education Level: College student Physical Age/Birthdate: 21/ August 4 Height: 5’ 7 ½” Build: Athletic Hair: Reddish brown, with a white stripe in the front. It is naturally very wavy, bordering on curly, but she straightens it a lot. Eyes: Green Appearance: Anna Marie is an attractive girl, just above average height. Her build is that of someone who works out quite frequently, but she is by no means bulky. She has fair skin and a strong jawline and green eyes, but the most noticeable thing about her is her hair. Though she straightens it often, it is naturally wavy, with a white streak in the front. Her ears are pierced - twice in each lobe, and she tends to wear simple hoop earrings in both holes when permitted. When given the choice, Anna Marie prefers to wear black BDUs over the standard uniforms. When out of uniform, she prefers to dress in clothes that keep her body well covered. She generally dresses very casually, preferring long sleeved shirts, jeans, and tops with hoods. Her style does change from time to time, thanks in part to the other personalities in her head, and despite the limited opportunities to wear something other than a uniform, she has a rather full wardrobe. She also has one of the most impressive collections of gloves known to man, and wears a pair at almost all times of the day. Thanks to her powers, she is also legally required to wear a bright red medical alert bracelet, which lets people know not to touch her should they find her unconscious. Played By: Missy Peregrym Powers, Abilities and Stats Powers: Through skin to skin contact, even the slightest bump, Anna Marie absorbs the other person's powers (if applicable) and memories. During the time which she has the powers, she is able to use them as well as their rightful owners. Sometimes, she also takes on physical attributes of the person whom she has absorbed, such as in the case of physical mutations. The time that she has the powers after the absorption is dependant on the length of the contact. For each second of contact, she has the person's powers for one minute. If she remains in contact with someone long enough, she could potentially kill them or put them into a coma, in which case she permanently retains their powers. Generally, when she absorbs someone, they are temporarily knocked unconscious. If she only remains in contact with them for a very short period of time, however, all that they experience is a little light-headedness and/or dizziness, followed later by a headache. Additionally, through an accident in her junior year of high school, Anna Marie has acquired additional powers. She is able to fly and has enhanced strength as well as invulnerability. Though she is not technically resistant to telepathy, her mind is full of so many different psyches that it would take a very skilled telepath to actually read her, unless she is purposefully shutting the psyches out. Though Anna Marie is unable to completely control her powers, she has managed to control them to a certain degree. She is unable to completely switch her powers off, but is is able to delay absorption for about twenty minutes. She is not actually aware of the full length of time that she can do it, as she has not yet tested it on anyone else for more than about fifteen seconds. Additionally, she is able to recall powers that she has absorbed repeatedly, but is not able to use them at as full a strength as their rightful owners. Generation: Unknown. Hearing: Good Eyesight: Good Dexterity/Agility: Above average Physical Strength: Superhuman General Health: Excellent IQ: Above average, thanks in part to the people she’s absorbed and their knowledge. Mental Health: Pretty good, considering. She does have good and bad days, but has managed to keep herself from going off the deep end again. Skills: Anna Marie is well trained in a number of martial arts. She is also ambidextrous, fluent in both German and French, and is a fairly decent guitar player. Additionally, she has a few skills that she’s not entirely aware of that randomly pop up from time to time, thanks to past absorptions. She discovered somewhere along the line that not only does she really like working with her hands, but she's very good at it. She has rebuilt a couple of vehicles, and will almost always agree to fixing things that are wrong with other peoples' cars or bikes. It's calming for her. School Life School: Cadet Year:Sophomore Years at Xavier's: 15 (She took 2 years off partway through) Relatives Attending: TJ Darkhoelme, niece, somewhere in the little leagues. Dorm: House, Floor, Room Number. (To be filled in AFTER assigned.) Roommate(s): To be filled in AFTER assigned. Pet: n/a School Team(s): Equestrian Activities & Clubs: Gymnastics, Engineering Background Family: Biological parents - unknown. Adopted parents - Raven Darkhölme and Irene Adler, both powered. Adopted brother - Kurt Darkhölme, powered. Niece - TJ Darkhölme, powered. Religion: Agnostic History: Anna Marie doesn't know much about her early days, except through the occasional repressed memory. What she does know is that she grew up on the bank of the Mississippi river and that her parents abandoned her when she was quite young. She remembers vaguely what they looked like, but nothing specific about them or their personalities. At the age of three, she was adopted from an orphanage in Mississippi by Raven Darkhölme and Irene Adler, and taken to live with them and their son Kurt at their home in New York. Kurt was quite a bit older than she, but she immediately idolized him. Her earliest memories of real family were with the Adler-Darkhölme household, and that suits her just fine. When she was five, she started kindergarten at the Xavier Academy, delighted to be able to go to the same school as her brother. She always had issues with sitting still, but was a decent student nonetheless. Elementary school was great, and middle school was looking like it would also be a pretty good time... until seventh grade, when her powers manifested. She had been given a vague warning by her mother, but it hadn’t been nearly enough to keep her from accidentally knocking another girl in her gym class out while playing basketball. Anna Marie was going to block a shot and reached to knock the ball out of the girl’s hand but instead made contact, instantly rendering the girl unconscious and leaving Anna Marie incredibly confused and panicked. She spent the rest of the day trying to sort out who she was and trying to come to terms with what had happened. Her parents were proud (though not surprised) that she’d manifested, and she was too to some degree, but the pride was overshadowed by the realization that she might not be able to touch another person ever again. Anna Marie continued to attend the Xavier Academy while getting used to her new situation, training with her powers in as controlled an environment as was available, working primarily on controlling the psychic remnants that stuck around once the initial manifestations of powers had worn off. Her grades remained in about the B range, and she kept active at school, throwing herself into sports and training as a way of trying to ignore her situation. She became very good at pretending that everything was okay, and breezed through the next few years with a relatively good school record, with the exception of a handful of disciplinary problems, brought on by her increasing frustration with her powers and her inability to control them. As she moved through high school, she shut herself off more and more from those around her, throwing herself into athletics and training. She adopted the theory that she was probably better off alone, for her sanity and for her friends’ safety, and said and did a lot of things to alienate them that she really didn’t mean. By her sophomore year, she’d gone from a very friendly, social girl to someone who would glare at anyone who came within three feet of her acting as though they wanted to talk to her. Her grades were still not horrible, and she was able to keep a couple of friends from completely giving up on her, but overall she was slipping. Toward the end of her sophomore year, at the age of fifteen, Anna Marie was participating in a training exercise that went awry. Anna Marie and two classmates were running an obstacle course when one of them, a kid with super strength, accidentally grabbed her bare hand. The contact knocked them both off-balance and they fell about twenty feet, taking along another classmate, who had been airborne at the time. Anna broke her left arm in the process, but even worse, when she landed she was skin to skin with both and in far too much pain to move. She lost consciousness, and when she woke up hours later in the on-campus medical facility, she had no idea who she was. Whether it was from the length of the contact or the fact that she’d absorbed two people at once, Anna Marie found herself completely unable to find herself. She struggled with her identity, and it was a couple of days before she was able to fight her way back into control of her own body. When she finally did, she was shocked to discover that she had retained her classmates’ powers. Both of the other students were still unconscious, and were ultimately transferred to facilities closer to their homes, where they remained in comas for months. Neither of the students returned to the Academy, though both made full recoveries. Anna Marie spent the next year and a half struggling to keep hold of reality, fighting the psyches on a regular basis. She regularly lost chunks of time when one of the two students took charge, and when she was herself, she was riddled with guilt and self-loathing and distrust of her own body. She spent most of her time indoors, too scared of what would happen if she was around people. The only times that she left the home were when someone else was in control, and then she would wake up somewhere she’d never been before, shaken and confused. Her parents kept her out of school, working with her themselves, as well as seeking outside help. It was through the intervention of Charles Xavier (and his telepathy) that she finally was able to build up the mental blocks necessary to keep herself from losing control of her body. She also worked on control of the powers she’d acquired from the students, which were apparently sticking around for a while. Just before her eighteenth birthday, as Anna Marie was preparing herself to face everyone back at school again after two years of effectively disappearing off the face of the planet, her mother died. Irene was very old, and it wasn’t entirely a surprise - in fact, she realized afterwards that the woman had been subtly preparing her for it for a while, but it was still painful and stressful. She managed to keep herself stable, though, and returned to school to start her junior year. Picking up where she’d left off was difficult; all of the students who had been in her class had graduated, and though many of them were still on campus for college, it was difficult to really get at all close with her friends again. There were rumors, too, that she’d actually killed the two students, and even though she pretended not to hear any of it, it was a huge blow to realize that the general consensus seemed to be that she was absolutely capable of it. She did her best to fit back in, studying harder than before and getting involved with teams at school again. Gradually, she got back into the swing of things and managed to convince at least some people that she wasn’t a cold-blooded murderer. As she got more comfortable back in school, she got her GPA back to where it had been before and started to regain the less emo attitude that she’d had when she was younger. Because of her instability, Anna Marie was not approached to become a cadet immediately. She’d known for a long time that it was what she wanted to do, but completely understood (and hated) that she had pretty much blown her chances of being grabbed up on her eighteenth birthday. She trained hard and continued to apply herself at school, determined to not be a complete failure, and by the time she graduated from high school at 19, she had made huge improvements, figuring out how to temporarily hold off absorption with skin contact and also discovering that she could recall certain powers. She didn’t even have to think about it when she was finally asked to be a cadet, and has been in the program for about a year and a half. She sees it as an opportunity to not only live up to the expectations she feels others have for her, given her family history, but also to make up for the accident. It’s a chance to prove that she’s not a bad person and a chance to do some good. It may never actually make up for putting a couple of kids into matching 6 month comas, but it’s a start. Personality: Anna Marie is a generally nice, intelligent and inquisitive person. She can also be very loud and opinionated and has a somewhat short fuse. She’s working on it, but for now, if you piss her off, she'll let you know. Loudly. Her self-esteem is much lower than she would have anyone believe, and she is constantly worried that she will slip and suddenly find herself in another awful life-draining situation. That issue often sends her into depressions, which she is mostly good at hiding. At the base, she is a very caring person, but years of shutting other people out have trained her to hesitate before showing that. She also still contends with the psyches in her head, who like to weigh in on most things. Though she can shut them up, she often just lets them speak, partially because it’s easier and partially as a convenient excuse for thoughts that she has that are not what she thinks should be considered good. Anna Marie is fiercely loyal to her friends and family, and has been known to threaten people who refer to the portrait of Irene hanging in the library as Helen Keller with various acts of violence. She loves her family and is very proud of and grateful for everything they’ve done, both for her personally and for powered humans as a whole. Though she does tend to keep people at arm’s length, she still generally enjoys interaction. She’s not quite comfortable enough with the control that she has to start hugging and kissing everyone (she’s only recently started being comfortable with occasionally taking the gloves off), but she’s making progress at becoming more tactile. Mannerisms and quirks: It isn’t very strong, but Anna Marie still definitely speaks with a vaguely Austrian accent, which is more pronounced when she is drunk or upset. She also tends to slip into German when she’s uncomfortable, or just when she feels like saying things that she doesn’t want anyone else to understand. She cracks her knuckles a lot and her hands are generally fairly fidgety. When she’s in a not so great mood, she tends to zone out completely, regardless of where she is at the time, and when she is agitated, she often pinches the bridge of her nose and mumbles to herself. Likes: Coffee, music, fixing things, her guitar, spaghetti with meatballs, peace and quiet, the smell of struck matches, riding (both horseback and motorcycle), Strawberry Pez, gyros, blue people. Dislikes: Being crazy, not being able to touch anyone, crowds, "real" macaroni and cheese, squirrels, obnoxiously bright colors, Celine Dion. Relationships: Friends: Ali Blaire, Clint Barton, Piotr Rasputin, Tony Stark, Emma Frost, Eli Bradley, Callisto Leandros Enemies: No real enemies. Marital status: Single Past Relationships: One or two “boyfriends,” but it’s hard to really get too far in a relationship when you're afraid of hurting someone you care about. The few physical encounters she has had weren't generally with anyone she really cared much for. Present Relationships: She's kinda sleeping with Piotr a little bit... but it's not really a relationship. Planned Relationships: None/open Sexual Preference: Bisexual Info at a glance: Anna Marie's most recognizable feature is her hair. She is also very well covered most of the time, even in the summer. For people who don't really know her, her last names are pretty telling, as both of her parents were/are very wealthy, prominent figures in the powered rights movement and one is currently a high ranking officer with SHIELD.
