Bio: | Player Info Name: Sara or Magik!Sara Email Address: magikfanfic AT gmail DOT com IM/MSN Username: magikfanfic Basic Info Real Name: Russel Collins Nicknames: Rusty, Firebug Affiliation: (Only include this line for adult characters) Occupation: Student Education Level: High School Student Physical Age/Birthdate: 17/July 28th Height: 5'10" Build: Gangly Hair: Red, curly and unruly. Eyes: Light blue Appearance: Rusty has very fair skin that burns easily. He has a long face with a slightly square jaw. When he smiles, he has dimples in both cheeks and his eyes light up. Rusty is scrawny and gangly as though he hasn't finished getting used to his body yet. A lot of the time, Rusty has various bruises on his legs and arms because of how clumsy he is when he's doing things like skateboarding, surfing, walking, cooking, doing his art, etc. His hair is the first thing that anyone notices about him, though. It's curly and shaggy and everywhere. It's almost a halo around his head. Rusty doesn't style it or really even brush it too much, but it has tempted many a person to run their fingers through it. The next thing one sees is Rusty's bit, bright blue eyes. Then his smile. He has the appearance of a giant, ginger puppy. When not in uniform, his dress style is pretty out there. Rusty like baggy jeans and too-big shirts. He likes to pair dress shirts with plaid pants and silver chain jewelry and bracelets. He's sort of indie punk without realizing that he's skating the edge of a genre. He just likes to wear what he likes to wear. All this said, he cleans up rather nice, though is always fidgety in close fitting clothes. Played By: Ethan Embry Powers, Abilities and Stats Powers: Rusty has the power to ignite the oxygen molecules in the air within a twenty foot radius of his body so long as the point is within his sight. Once the oxygen is ignited, Rusty has limited control over the flames themselves, mostly only being able to push them out at people defensively. Most of the time, he will ignite a fire in order to capture someone's attention and then run. With time and practice, Rusty will have more control over the flames, but he doesn't practice much. Rusty's biggest fear is setting someone on fire or setting something on fire and it injuring someone by mistake. Whatever Rusty wants to set on fire has to be within his line of sight. If he cannot see, either because something is in his way or someone is affecting his sight, he cannot use his powers Due to the nature of his powers, Rusty's body is instinctively protected by a psionic shield while he uses them. Rusty is not aware of this facet of his powers, however, and believes himself to just be lucky not to have caught himself on fire yet. Generation: First Hearing: Good but perhaps a little damaged due to the loud music he listens to. It also seems worse than it is because Rusty has a bad habit of not paying attention when people are talking about things he doesn't find interesting or doesn't understand. His ADHD, which is medicated but he often forgets to take his pills, only makes this habit worse. Eyesight: 20/20 Dexterity/Agility: Bad. Rusty is a klutz. Physical Strength: Slightly below average for his build. General Health: Good. IQ: Average Mental Health: Rusty is mostly stable although he does suffer from a bit of ADHD. When not treated it does make him seem rather flighty. Rusty is still pretty shell shocked about his powers, and is extremely reserved about using them. In fact a lot of times he can get paranoid about his powers and the possibility of hurting someone. Sometimes he will panic when he uses his powers, which only exacerbates the situation. In very high emotion situations, Rusty will tend to withdraw almost completely in an attempt to keep it from effecting himself. He hides a lot behind being goofy and sweet and unassuming because he knows how dangerous he can be. He will be attending counseling sessions while at Xavier's to continue to work on his issues and deal with the effects of his powers and the aftermath of his manifestation. Skills: Rusty is an excellent cook, however he frequently gets distracted and burns whatever he's cooking. He's not very good, but Rusty can play both the bass as well as the guitar. In addition, Rusty is an excellent artist. He prefers sketching and sculpture to painting, especially oils because he always worries about how flammable they might be. School Life School: High Year: Junior Years at Xavier's: None Relatives Attending: None Dorm: House, Floor, Room Number. (To be filled in AFTER assigned.) Roommate(s): To be filled in AFTER assigned. Pet: Nope School Team(s): Swim Activities & Clubs: Art, Sculpture Background Family: Denise and Charles Collins (parents, non-powered, both deceased), Thomas Collins (uncle, non-powered, Carol Collins (aunt, non-powered), Georgina and Mary Collins (cousins, non-powered) Religion: Protestant but not practicing History: At the age of four, Russel lost both of his parents in a car crash. As a result, his uncle and aunt assumed guardianship of the boy and raised him own alongside the rest of their family. Rusty would never say anything bad about his uncle, and the man was not a monster, but the boy often took the blame for just about anything bad that happened or if something got broken. Part of this was Rusty's fault, as he would not tell on his cousins. In the end, he was happy to be the scapegoat if it meant keeping the girls out of trouble. At school, he was a reluctant and somewhat lazy student. He never really excelled at any of his studies, instead being known as the boy who always answered questions with a shy smile rather than the correct answer. It must have been his sweet, easygoing nature that kept him for getting in too much trouble for never doing his homework or pulling his weight in group projects, though this is not to say that his grades were in any way, shape or form good. Rusty was doing well to pass his classes, but he didn't care. The teachers did speak to his aunt and uncle about Rusty's inattentiveness when he was thirteen. During the next check up at the doctors, as Rusty rarely got sick, that his aunt brought up the fact to the doctor who diagnosed Rusty with a very slight form of ADHD and put him on medication. When Rusty remembered to take the pills, they did help his concentration although he didn't really do much better in class. In fact he simply worked more on his drawings and paid less attention to the teachers. Shortly after his sixteenth birthday, Rusty had gone to town with some friends. There were at a mall, shopping for CDs and sheet music and the like when Rusty started feeling sick. His stomach hurt, and he was sweating profusely. Excusing himself, Rusty headed to the bathroom, thinking that some cold water on his face might help. Something happened. Rusty still can't put the details together. One moment he was just walking along feeling like crap and the next a woman was on fire. He just knew that the fire was his doing. An off duty police officer also saw the incident and tried to arrect Rusty, thinking that it was arson rather than a power manifestation. Scared, Rusty tried to escape. The result was that he managed to set the police officer on fire as well. Terrified of what he could do, Rusty walked the entire way back to the Collins farm as he didn't even dare go near his car for fear of setting it on fire and blowing it up. When he got there, he refused to go indoors or let anyone come close to him. They soon saw why because when he became agitated, his arm became covered in flames. Rusty and his cousins shrieked in fear. Rusty's uncle turned the hose on and put the fire out. Unsure of what to do, Rusty's aunt started giving him sedatives while they researched the schooling options for their firebug. They eventually decided to send Rusty to a school in San Diego that specialized in helping kids with uncontrolled powers for the rest of his sophomore year of high school. When Rusty first went to the school in San Diego, he was withdrawn and morose a lot of the time, avoiding the other students because he was worried that he would be a danger to them. He was also getting a hold of sedatives whenever possible and using those to help relax himself and try to hold back any extremes of emotion that might result in a fire. The school counselors caught onto this behavior and have done their best to contain and correct it, though it is entirely too early to know the full effects his manifestation had on him. On of the things that really helped them pull him out was encouraging his love for swimming and the beach. Rusty had always loved to swim, but it was during his times there that he really took to it and even earned himself a spot on the team. He also learned to surf. These activities allowed Rusty to connect with his peers in a setting that Rusty perceived as being safety because of the proximity of the water. Rusty does have relapses but these should decrease as he begins to have more confidence in himself and learns better control over his powers. Rusty has managed to give up the sedatives although sometimes he wishes that he hadn't. Now at the end of his junior year, they've decided that it might be better for him to switch to Xavier's school in New York. Rusty is a little bummed to be losing the water and the warmth, but he figures the transfer is for a good reason. Personality: Rusty is a fairly happy-go-lucky guy. Not much gets him down. While he does worry over things, these concerns are quickly pushed aside when something else comes along. He could be called shallow, but it wouldn't be a very accurate description. Rusty mostly concerns himself with other people, wanting to make sure they don't get hurt and don't feel bad. He does everything he can to try and help others, which often results in putting himself in harm's way or giving his last dollar to someone else, neither of which really bother him. Rusty angers slowly and is more likely to make excuses for others or blame himself for something going wrong. He has been told so many times during his life that he is a little slow intellectually that he simply goes along with it. It's more fun to let other people make the big decisions anyway. Mannerisms and quirks: Rusty has a habit of looking at the ceiling and letting his mouth hang open a little when he thinks. He also laughs in tense situations. Rusty also occasionally sounds like a TMNT cartoon in his language. Rusty has incorporated surfer talk into his vocabulary despite the fact that he still has his Oklahoma accent. It's pretty entertaining. Likes: Video games, water, chilling, playing guitar, hanging out with people, taking care of kids, roller coasters, drawing, sculpting. Dislikes: People being too serious, accidentally hurting people, bullies, reading. Relationships: Friends: Everyone! Rusty knows some of the kids from the San Francisco school on sight but doesn't know their names. Enemies: Probably nobody! Marital status: Single! Past Relationships: Rusty's dated a few girls but nothing serious. Present Relationships: None Planned Relationships: Open Sexual Preference: Straight Info at a glance: Rusty is goofy. He's tall and thin and trips and falls a lot. Most of the time he can be found just staring into space and looking completely clueless. Oddly enough, he is quite all right with that.
