001 - Back at the Burrow
I suppose I ought to have owled, but you should have seen the look on my mum's face when I turned up this morning unannounced. Felt late to me, but apparently I had forgotten the time difference and surprised her before she had a chance to get coffee on (which would be no big deal for anyone other than Molly Weasley. Word to the wise: do not rob this woman of the chance to be a good hostess).

I haven't lived at the Burrow since the week after I graduated Hogwarts, and have only been home for a few days at a time. Seems strange that I will be there until I can find a place I call my "own." How do I even go about doing that? In Romania, I built a cabin. Perhaps I could do that here? I'm sure mum would get a hoot out of a miniature cabin for her son to live in, just on the other side of the garden.

Speaking of, mum's none too thrilled about Păcală and Luana taking up residence with the owls.

I feel as if I have been out of the loop for so long. So, what's new, England?

I just said all of the stupidest things to you. I can't believe you aren't mad at me. Way to go, Charlie, making a woman feel old.

Captain?? That's incredible. You will be fantastic. I always hated the authority of the position, Wood did a much better job than I did. I'm sure I'm rusty on my Seeking skills. There are plenty of better options out there. Isn't Harry Potter on the market?

When is the House Cup? I've a mind to attend, and a Gryffindor Quidditch reunion sound rather brill, if I may say so myself.

Thank you, I think. I still am in shock, Mum told me for my birthday and I keep thinking it will have some sort of strings attached. And I meant Harry. He replaced you as Seeker, didn't he? At least, that's what I saw from the files. I'm being kept abreast now that I'll be Captain. But yes, we offered him our Seeker spot, still waiting to see what he decides.

Saturday. I'm meant to go with the Captains and owners and such, so I was thinking of popping round. You should come. It would be good to see you after all this time. See how you've grown and all that, heh. Oh Godric now you sound lecherous for some reason. Awesome, Meaghan you great idgit

Ah, I see. I misread that like a total idiot. Now I feel really foolish. Harry would be a fantastic addition to the team. I've not seen him play, but I've heard endless renditions from my dear, younger siblings.

A shame you have to be with the captains and owners. I'm sure there will be a right, wild party in the Gryffindor cheering section. Stop by if you can. I'd like to see how you've grown, too. Blimey, I am a terrible person, I can't believe I wrote that at all.

I wasn't especially clear, you had someone replace you as Captain and then later as Seeker. I forgot about you not being Captain your last year. I used to keep really good tabs on Hogwarts Quidditch, but I'm losing my touch. I'll have to go to more matches next year though, that ought to be fun. Your sister is supposed to be quite the player, as I understand it. And yes, well, your siblings are dears, but Catriona has her eye on him. And when my mum has her eye on you, you best watch out.

Only for a while. I like most the captains alright, but it feels weird to be there, like I don't really belong. Which is stupid, because Gwenog will be there and she's one of my best mates, but still. I'm sure I'll be coming around the Gryffindor section, otherwise how would you get to say 'hallo' to me? Ugh, that was cheesey Megs...why are you an idiot??

Quidditch runs in the Weasley family blood. Well, everyone except for Percy's. Fred and George were rather ace beaters, Ginny is a bril chaser, and of course, I was a star seeker. And, well, Ron does his job.

I'm sure your mum knows how to pick them. Harry is a rather obvious choice, though. If he declines, I'd happily step in...

How is Gwennie? I can't believe I haven't talked to anyone in years. I feel like an old man coming back from the grave!

Do stop by. I'd hate to miss out on seeing you.

So it does. The whole lot of you are impressive, and yet you went off to play with huge lizards. Dashing thing you are. Was it as exciting as I imagine it to be, which is basically like a muggle western with dragons?

And poor Ron. I'm sure he's more than adequate.

She does, really. Or she's fond of saying so. He's obvious, which is why he ought to come here. We need more young blood, I'm about the youngest on the team, which is a frightening thought.

She's excellent, of course. Tearing up the field and making me laugh, as ever. And cor, you're no old man. You're far younger than me, aren't you? At least, so you've reminded me.

You won't. Can't imagine I'll be impressive though. I'm practically a spinster. Got the cottage full of cats and everything.

They aren't lizards, they're dragons, and I am certainly not dashing. But yes, it was much like a Muggle Western. Minus the guns and horses.

Ron is a fine player, but I wouldn't be his brother if I wasn't hard on him.

Nothing wrong with older, more experienced players. You are obviously doing well for yourselves.

I'm younger than you. Yes, I did remind you. I'm rather good at putting my foot in my mouth, you see. And I'm not far younger than you. Just younger by a bit.

A cottage full of cats sounds rather entertaining. I imagine it's only half as fun as a back yard full of dragons, though.

Don't put the dragon on a pedestal Charlie. Otherwise you'll never be able to snag one. Isn't that what they say? In any case, that sounds brilliant. Always wanted to see a dragon close up, closest I've gotten is glimpses at the reserve in The Hebrides.

I don't know, I always tell Kirley he's brilliant and he tells me I am. Maybe he's just lying to make me feel good, but it sounds nice coming from him.

Well, no, except the lot will be retiring soon enough and we have no one trained in the wings.

Ahh, it's fine, I'm just joking about. You are just younger by a bit. Unlike when we were in Hogwarts, taking you for a pint now won't earn me aghast stares.

The cats are lovely, and so is the cottage. Spinster me less so. Ahh well, I guess I'm married to Quidditch at this point. Back yard full of dragons sounds amazingly fun. Make it happen!

They really are quite incredible. You ought to check one out up close some day. Just not a Horntail, if you can help it.

You are a brilliant Quidditch player, Meg. Don't doubt it, ever.

That is a fair point. But I suppose you'll have Potter and I'm sure he'll attract a decent younger crowd next year. My sister included.

We ought to have some sort of reunion with the old crew. Pints all around.

I wouldn't say you're a spinster just yet. You have time. Though, I'm married to my dragons, so I understand how you feel.

I should. If only I knew a dragonkeeper who had an in to make it happen.

Oh. I. Thanks, really. I'm...thanks.

We might have Potter. He still hasn't signed yet. I'm sure he has other offers. I'd like it if he did though, I don't know who we'd get otherwise. Our reserve Seeker is pushing 50.

Oh yes. Whole crew. Yes. Wouldn't want to be too familiar-like...

No, I really am. I have proof. And dragons are probably better company, but I get it. The cats never judge my consumption of alcohol or my inability to dress myself without looking like an idiot. I'm kind of getting better at the latter, even as I'm far worse with the former. No one's perfect, I suppose.

A dragonkeeper? I heard that one of those recently returned to town.

No need to thank someone for stating the truth.

Alright, fine. If Potter doesn't sign, I'll try out for the team. I might be rusty, but I'm half your reserve's age.

Right? It would be a great time! Is something wrong with the whole crew?

Dragons don't judge, either. Or perhaps they do. With fire.

Did they? Well maybe you can put in a word for me then.

I don't know, seems right to thank someone for complimenting you. I'm horrible at accepting compliments, really. I generally assume they are just trying to be nice. Which is awful, I know.

I'm sure even rusty you couldn't be worse...well, he's good, just old and slow. When you say it like that, it makes me feel less ancient.

It will be! Er, there is nothing wrong with groups at all, don't mind me, I'm silly.

Trial by fire, I hear is the best way to learn. Do or die.

Maybe we could do a drink after the game. To catch up, like. If you want, that is...
