Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
I don't think I'll ever actually get the hang of this stupid thing. The idea of sitting on my ass in front of my computer on a regular basis, typing out some absolute nonsense on a 'blog' just doesn't seem to have a valid point to me. I mean, aside from Chase (who only reads my 'blog' to make fun of me), who really cares what I have to say on this stupid thing? The few friends I have who might bother to follow it, never really comment on it. Take Dani for instance. Of course, she's got a ton of other things to be doing and commenting on some guy she used to know before she got famous' journal is probably the last thing on her extremely long list of things to do. No offense, Belmont. I'm sure you're still as down to earth as you ever were. Not sure that's saying much.

Okay, I'm sorry. That's harsh. I'm not in the best of moods lately. Los Angeles gets worse on a daily basis and if I was smart, like my brother, I'd have left this fucking town ages ago. I only have a few weeks left of school before I'm finally finished and can hopefully stop picking up everyone else's garbage for a living, which is a definite bonus. But for some reason, I'm sitting here wondering if the whole college endeavor wasn't a waste of time. What good is it really going to do me? How much work is there for carpenter's these days? Are they really building as many houses with the economy in shambles now as they used to? Sure, I could get a job working for people who are trying to 'flip' the shitty houses that are already on the market, but I'm not going to make a whole lot of money doing that, now am I?

It's funny. When I started school, I didn't go into my chosen line of business thinking 'oh, that's gonna make me a ton of cash.' If I had done that, I probably would have gone to medical school like my parents wanted, because at least then I'd see some sort of flow into my bank accounts. But no, I picked a trade that will have me scraping the barrel for the rest of my life. Chances are, I'll have to pick up a part-time job just to make ends meet. And if that's the case, I might as well continue working as a sanitation worker.

Alright, maybe updating this thing tonight wasn't my best idea. Not only do I think that journals are stupid, but I'm not coloring myself very well right now. Whatever. I'm going to bed.

You realize, Penn, that you sound kinda like me. I didn't get into music to be rich and famous. Granted, the parents already had the "rich" thing down, but I never expected or even really wanted the famous part. And I'm still kinda not, so I'm good with that. I got into music because it was what I wanted to do. It was what I was good at and what I loved. The parents weren't thrilled and I'd "never become anything" by being a studio musician, but I didn't care.

The college endeavor is not a waste of time, so don't get the whole defeatist attitude about it. :P That's my job!

I agree with the New Orleans idea. And if all else fails, go talk to my mom and dad. They'd drive you crazy, I'm sure, but there's always something to be done to one of their properties.

Really? Okay, so maybe I sound a little like you. When I re-read it this morning, I thought I sounded more grumpy than anything though. It's a little disturbing.

I love what I do. Okay, so I don't love what I currently do, but I love what I'm going to school to do. I've always wanted to build things, whether it be furniture or houses or .. hell, even bridges. It's what I've always wanted and loved to do. My parents don't exactly agree with it, but then, they don't agree with Asher's line of work either. They expected more out of us, wanted more out of us.

Do me a favor. When Lyric grows up, don't be angry with her if she decides her life dream is something you think is stupid. Let her be who she wants to be, without making her feel guilty about it. Not that I think you ever would but .. sometimes, parents forget how they felt when they were kids.

You never have to worry about that. Regardless of what Lyric aspires to do, she will always be supported. Because I know firsthand what it feels like to aspire to do something and be told that it's just not acceptable or it's not what you should do because it's a one-in-a-million chance that you'll become something. That's the kind of thing that leads to children running away.

You have to do what you love or you'll never be happy. To be honest with you, outside of spending time with my little girl, the only time I'm truly blissful is when I've got my guitar or I sit down at the piano and just play. I can't really make that fit into building things, but the same concept applies! Regardless of whether or not your parents agree with it, they have to accept it, because it's what you want.

Good. I'm glad that I don't need to worry about you becoming your own parents. It tends to be a common thing with people, or so I noticed. Asher acts more and more like our father every day. Makes me feel a little bad for Ami, though, I don't think he'll ever be quite as strict and demanding as our old man was. Or, is rather.

And yes, the same concept applies. I'm happiest when I have a hammer in my hand, as weird as that might seem. When I'm actually building something. Which reminds me, do you need any bookcases? I've got this collection going in my living room that's taking up more space then I actually have. Which .. is probably why your piano playing is probably more logical than my random building. Probably less costly, too. Wood is expensive!

I'm sure she'll get her rebellious streak and eventually someone will have to remind him that just because he's getting old, he doesn't have to be just like your parents. The scariest thing in the world is to open your mouth and hear yourself say something your parents did. Thankfully for me, even though my parents were ridiculous with me, Lyric has them completely bowled over. She could tear their house completely apart and they'd think she was the most adorable thing ever. Hell, they'd probably help her destroy the place if she wanted.

You know what? I could totally use bookcases! I've been thinking about making one of my rooms into like a library of sorts. So hello win-win situation! It'd also totally give you an excuse to come visit when you get a free time (ahem...I'm thinking this spring would be lovely, since um...South By Southwest is in March and this little songbird that you know just happens to be performing this year).

I think that's a grandparent thing. They treat us a certain way but the minute there is a grandchild around? It's a whole different ballgame. Ami gets away with basically everything, she can do no wrong. And that's fine .. that's just how it should be. It'd be nice if parents were as carefree about their own children as they were about their grandchildren, but I guess that wouldn't be very logical.

I'm sure that Asher will do just fine. I think sometimes he just forgets what it's like, how it felt to hear certain things and be treated certain ways when we were growing up. He just needs a good kick in the ass. Which he just might get if he decides to move back down here from Seattle. I'm hoping he does. I miss my brother and my neice. Lame, I know.

And what's this about being in South By Southwest? That's awesome! Congratulations. I'll definitely try to make it down there in the Spring then. I have to see this!

It's not lame to miss them! It's actually really sweet! Kinda makes me wish I had siblings, if only so I would have their children to spoil. I try to do some sort of telepathy on Dani and Jillian so that they'll have kids, but they're soooo stubborn! They have some sorta mind-block or something.

I'm pretty excited about SXSW. I've always tried to go every year, but this will be my first year to perform. We'll so totally have to celebrate it!

Oh man. I don't even want to imagine little Belmonts running around. Especially not mini-Jilli's. Christ. My brother told me she posted some craziness on her Twitter account about wanting to have his children and I nearly spit out my beer. I still picture her with pigtails, chasing around after Dani and being incredibly annoying.

We'll definitely celebrate, cause I know how big of a deal this is for you. And I'm sure that you'll blow them all away with how amazing you are.

Haha! I don't know, mini-Jilli's would be cute! Now I'm not sure any of us would be prepared for a Jilli/Asher combo. Though there's no doubt in my mind that any potential genetic mix of theirs would be absolutely adorable.

Aww! Thank you, Penn! And this is why you're totally my favorite!

I seriously just threw up in my mouth. Even the idea of a Jilli/Asher combo scares me. For one thing, he's like ten years older than she is. For another? She's Jilli! Creepy!!! Granted, they might make some adorable kids but .. no! Ew! No.

See?!?! I'm not crazy. Jilli is gorgeous. I'll give her that. And I suppose my brother isn't half bad looking. At the least, he makes cute kids cause Ami is just adorable. But .. the two of them together? No. That'd be like .. me and Dani. And .. no.

Hey, I think almost all of us have thought your brother was hot at one point in time! And um...you and Dani? Cute. I would so entirely approve. Of course, I'm really kinda approving the redhead up there, fuzzy handcuffs and all.

I've spent my entire life listening to people go on and on about how hot Asher is. Okay? I get it. Shut up, already! Asher got all the good looks, I got all the goofy ones. Whatever.

And no matter how cute or how much you approve of a Dani/Penn combo? It would never work. Ever. We'd end up killing each other after the first five minutes which is probably why we never really attempted dating when we were growing up. It was safer not to.

As for Chase? I'm actually kind of amused by your approval of that one. Oddly enough, I met her through Dani. She's Jake's younger sister. One of them.

Oh hush! You know you're cute! :P

It was totally safer for ALL of us to avoid the dating thing all the way around. Considering I've dated one of Dani's former boyfriends? That sorta thing gets awkward.

Haha. Oh wow. So that's his other sister. Adorable obviously runs in that family too. God, no wonder all of you are connected! :P

He does know he's cute, and yep! Actually, I'm the cool sister. Angie's just a nerd. So's my brother.

Haha. So there's the detective, his cute sister, and his cool sister. Got it. :)

You're more than welcome to chime in! I'm Mandie. It's so much better to have a name to use than "that redhead with the fuzzy handcuffs."

Haha. Nothing wrong with being geeky! (Though right now, I'm thinking 'the about-to-be-murdered' sister is appropriate.)

Yeah, but telling your brother that I talked to his sister, "you know, the redhead with the fuzzy handcuffs," might be a little awkward.

All of that stuff gets awkward. I knew the both of you too well to ever even consider it. Or, okay, no. I lie. I considered it because who wouldn't consider it? But, yeah .. definitely would have been awkward.

Well, I don't know about the other sister cause I haven't met her. But Chase, in all her arrogance, already knows she's hot. And I'll take your word for it on the other one being adorable. We already know what Dani's opinion of the brother was.

Haha. It wasn't the videotaping karaoke that was awkward. It was what was there before she took it down. She'd posted a fake invite to her brother's wedding...to "that adorable girl who is best friends with his ex."
