Stranger in a Strange Land 3
The was nothing more rewarding after a night of amazing sex, than to be able to sleep in the following morning and that was exactly what Aria had done. It wasn't as if she had much choice in the matter given that her body just up and quit on her and she was sleep before her head hit the pillow, curled up tightly against Bazzer. Her dreams no longer consisted of thoughts of this world but now the world she'd come from. She dreamed of cars, her kids at school, her family and her apartment. They all swirled around her head making it seem to her almost as if none of it was real. When she woke up the next morning, she almost felt like that really was the case. That this world was becoming more and more home to her because where she thought she was from didn't really exist.

Climbing out of bed, she shook that thought from her head, knowing it was just silly to even put something like that out there. She was very aware of her home, her real home and that this place was certainly not it. Besides if she ever had any doubts all she had to do was say something strange in front of Bazzer and he'd get that puzzled look and she would know. Coming out of the bathroom, Aria sat herself down at Bazzer's desk, looking around for something to write with as well as something to write on. It took a while since she wasn't sure what she was looking for and almost wished she just has a pen but managed to find something to mark paper. Immediately she began to write down everything that came out of her head, everything she knew was true from her own world, just so she'd never again question what was real and what wasn't.

Aria had just reached the bottom of the stairs and was peeking her head around the corner when suddenly doors opened. She could have honestly jumped right out of her skin with how it startled her, but she managed to calm herself down, placing a hand over her chest to still her pounding heart. She kept herself pressed tightly to the wall as he walked past her, very obviously being Bazzer's father along with someone else. Aria couldn't really help but look him over, seeing so much of Bazzer in him and then as well being fascinated by the color of his wings and how different they looked from Bazzer's.

At first it seemed like he didn't even see her standing there so Aria slowly began to creep away, but that didn't quite work. Once the door shut, he immediately addressed her and she stopped. "Um, yeah that's me," She chuckled a bit nervously. "Nice to meet you, I'm Aria," she smiled as she extended her hand to him, thinking that was proper. "Well...um, I guess you could say that. I'm just a little out of sorts here so I tend to just stay up in my room.

He nodded easily. While he was not used to his son bringing home strangely exotic women, he was at least used to odd situations and not making them worse. "Of course," he agreed, taking her hand gently in his own and then bending over it, pressing a chaste kiss to the back of her hand. "Are you hungry perhaps? Some soup? Bazzer didn't quite mention how he knew you..." Dar was clearly fishing for information, but he was doing so rather politely and without pressing matters.

Aria was a beautiful woman and while he wanted his son to mate with a girl of his own kind to produce a large clutch, he also knew his son was most likely never going to do that. Had he chosen this woman? It seemed likely since he had brought her home. She was at least tall and statuesque. Dar could hardly fault his son for being attracted to Aria's looks.

Aria smiled as he kissed her hand, not having expected it, but when he did it, all those formal customs made a bit of sense. "Um, well I guess I am a little hungry," She nodded feeling her stomach growl just at the mention of food. "We just met really. I, uh, I'm from out of town and when I arrived here, I was just really didn't know anything about this place and was sort of wandering around outside, not exactly wearing my winter gear. I probably would have frozen to death if Bazzer hadn't of found me and taken me in" Aria explained giving a partially true account of what happened. She had a hard enough time convincing Bazzer that she wasn't from this world, she definitely didn't think his father would believe her.

Aria had to admit she was very curious as to what was swirling around his father's head right then. This was the first time he'd been able to see her and even more the first time since she realized she cared about Bazzer and she wondered if he could tell that. She wondered if Bazzer had said anything to him about them, but doubted it, a normal man would have where she was from but who knew how things went in this world.

What Aria was saying made little sense, but then, Bazzer had mentioned that she was confused. He would need to have a talk with that boy. While he fully endorsed helping someone in need, especially one as beautiful as her, he did not want his son taken advantage of either. It was possible. "Of course," he replied smoothly, guiding her gently through a set of doors to the dining room. This was the formal dining room, though small and family sized as opposed to the ballroom or something like that.

Ringing a small bell, Dar seated Aria at the table on his right, then took a seat for himself at the head. Almost immediately a servant appeared then disappeared as water goblets were set down. A few minutes later, soup, bread and salad was brought out for a hearty lunch. Both the soup and salad had beef in it, a common staple in the house.

"So, tell me, my dear," Dar began once the food had arrived, "a little bit about yourself? Bazzer was very vague, just that you are from far south of here and are seeking work as a governess."

Aria was really not the best liar when it came right down to it. If her life depended on her telling a lie that someone would by, she'd be dead before the words left her mouth. She didn't know what Bazzer had told his father about her, but she was sure it wasn't the truth so she had to make up some sense of the truth. With his reply she was pretty certain that he was doing what would be considered the 'smile and nod' approach to her but she didn't blame him, with the things she could tell him that would probably be a typical reaction.

As he led her to the dining room, Aria's neck was constantly swiveling as she took in the house, the decor and just how the rooms look. The dining room was surprisingly small, not that it was too small she just expected this great hall. She wasn't quite sure that was what she expected, she just knew she did. Sitting down at the table, Aria tried to be as lady like as she possibly could be. When their food was actually brought out, Aria was beginning to notice a trend with how they ate and how much protein was contained in it. She was pretty sure if you could eat meat as dessert they probably would.

"About myself? Well, um... he's right, I'm a teacher or at least I used to be where I was from and I'm not from anywhere around here. I'm single, I'm 27 and, I, um rent my current living space back in my, um town," She explained not really knowing what to say about herself. "I don't really know what else to say, but you can ask me anything you want,"

"Are you a widow?" Dar asked, tone both inquisitive and cautious. To be 27 and childless and unmarried was practically unheard of here unless they were an old maid! Why, by 27 most women had already had their children and were done! At the same time though, he did not wish to be rude by causing her undue heartbreak from a husband she no longer had.

"I'm sorry, that was perhaps too personal..." he trailed off with a frown. "You needn't answer it. Though...you're a teacher?" he stroked his hairless chin for a moment, attention already switched to something else. "Have you seen the library yet?"

"No, it's fine, I've just never been married," she replied honestly. It was becoming apparent to her that it may not exactly be the norm and it wasn't exactly normal back home but she just was too focused on her job to have a man. Well there was that and the fact that no man ever seemed good enough. She was sure that if one came around who was any kind of good enough then she would be more than happy to settle down with him.

"It's okay, it's not really, I'm used to much more personal questions," Aria admitted given how her kids loved to pry into her personal life for some reason. There was one little girl who apparently just knew everything there was to know about the human condition and how relationships worked and just always had something new to ask her. "I am, I'm used to teaching very little children," She nodded as she took a few bites. "No, I haven't, this is actually the first time I've been downstairs," She perked up immediately at the mention of a library, it being where she spent most of her time anyway.

"Perhaps you would like to see it?" he offered, "Once you finish eating of course," Dar added hastily. He thought it was very strange for a woman to be unmarried at her age, and to never have been married either! Yet, she didn't seem to think anything amiss about that at all. Curiouser and curiouser. She was a very strange bird, that was for sure. Polite though and well mannered. Dar could not fault her for those, nor for having a culture with very different customs either, even if he did not understand them.

"Bazzer insists upon working here in the city," he chatted amicably, "I fear he simply wants to keep me company so I won't be alone, but I don't want him to end up alone either. I'd worry that he was angling for my position, but unlike the humans here, we do not do things by heredity automatically, though it does happen sometimes. He's out of touch with the needs of our people and his brother will most likely take over as ambassador once I finally retire," Dar explained to her, just in case she was looking for a fancy position. "Where that will leave Baz...is unclear at the moment. It really depends on what Baz and his brother decide on."

"Yes, yes I would love to," Aria smiled finding herself excited to see their library. She could only imagine what it would look like and what books it would contain. It would probably be helpful for her to brush up on some knowledge of this place so she could stop coming off as being so strange. She knew she stood out, that was something people made obvious as soon as they saw her. She had dark skin, she got it, she just wished everyone she met would stop pointing it out, it was getting to feel a little offensive now. However, even with this obvious physical difference maybe reading a few of their books would teach her how to live in this world. Did a library typically carry etiquette books? She was about to find out.

"I think he just likes it here better really. I think it suits him here in the city, well minus the wide open spaces. I think his job here keeps him happy too so it's just a nice fit, him being in the city," Aria shrugged. She wasn't positive but she had a feeling about him. They were both very similar in that way it seemed, doing things that made their parents question them. "Oh, right because that would mean he'd have to move. Who knows, I bet he could find himself a really nice place to live. Maybe not as nice as this, but a place that he can love coming home to after coming from the job that he loves as well,"

Smiling, Dar led her out of the dining room and down a short hall to a set of large double doors. Opening them, revealed a sunlit room with a high vaulted ceiling full of books. There was even a built in ladder on wheels to reach the higher books, "Enjoy yourself," he suggested, pleased. The library was quite impressive and he knew he enjoyed spending time in it. He wasn't trying to be offensive, in the city he and his family had often been remarked upon or talked about as they were most certainly not the norm and it was simply something they were used to. It was rarely meant maliciously, and more out of curiosity.

"There is that," Dar allowed, about his son. He did love his job, "This house is designed with us in mind, especially our wings. If Baz lived elsewhere, he would need to find something similar or get a place he could fix..." Dar trailed off, that would be quite expensive. More than his son could most likely afford. Well, he was not being kicked out yet, nor anytime soon.

Aria got up from the table anxious to see this library they had. She loved books so much that she probably, well no, definitely could spend all her time in a library just reading. As Dar led her to the library, Aria gasped, not able to help it. The room was just gorgeous and the library was so full of books she didn't know what to do with herself. Honestly, she felt like Belle, right when Beast gave her the library and could almost certainly shout with excitement, if she wasn't doing such a good job of keeping it in at the moment. "Oh my goodness, trust me I will. This room, it's just, there are just so many," She laughed looking around taking in the room fully.

Aria thought it was great that Bazzer loved his job, it was how everyone should feel. If it was your chosen career then you should love it, that was what she thought. "That is true, I guess that could be a little difficult for him. I'm sure when that time comes he'll work it out. I mean he could always get a place he could get fixed and then just do it himself, that would save money," Aria suggested, knowing DIY was big where she was from and worked in the way of saving money.

Giving Aria a strange look, Dar patted her paternally on the shoulder, "You enjoy then," he said, taking his leave of her. He had more work to do. She had such strange ideas, but they weren't bad ones.

Hours later, as the sun was setting, Bazzer returned from work only to be met by his father. A short talk later and he headed not upstairs for his room or Aria's, but for the library, unsurprised that Aria loved it. "You're going to hurt your eyes reading in bad light," he called as he entered. That wasn't strictly true since they had plenty of lights, but he did not want to startle Aria.

"I will," She called back to him as he left her there in the library. She was so excited she didn't even know what to do with herself for a while. Eventually she calmed down enough to grab a book and sat down at as desk and started reading. It spoke mostly of the government and how it worked which was interesting but seemed very similar to what she already knew. Grabbing another book, she found many more about law and normal rules and practices. It wasn't surprising that in a house such as this she'd find these books here though she wondered what other kinds of books might be there. Climbing up on the ladder, and walking from shelf to shelf, she continued to reading, not even noticing the light in the room changing from sunlight to lamplight.

Her face was buried deep within a book, completely immersed within the words when she heard his voice. It took a bit a of effort but she looked over at him and smiled, making herself stop reading for a moment."Oh please, I'm used to reading in light like this, you should see me at home reading by moonlight, now that is bad for you," She laughed pushing herself up from the desk. "Welcome home," She greeted as she walked over to him.

The library had books on a nearly infinite number of subjects, politics, nature, science, fiction, biographies, everything. There were not an infinite number of books, but there were still more than enough to occupy even the most avid readers. The collection had been amassed by many people over the years, with Dar and his family adding the most recent additions.

"That it is," he agreed with a smile. "And thank you. I'm glad you found something to do. Your dresses are upstairs for you...and I do not work for a few days, which means I can see you for more than a few hours each evening."

Aria knew she could spend days in this place if he would let her. She could come in here in the morning and never leave until the evening. Her love of books transcended just about everything else in her life, and always had. She'd been in libraries her entire life and continued to spend her free time there, just so addicted to learning it seemed. In that sense she did feel quite like Belle, never able to get enough of her books.

"Your father brought me in here and I just haven't been able to leave. There's so many and I just go so absorbed," She smiled looking around for a moment before turning back to him. "Oh they are? I can't wait to see them," Aria was very curious as to what they looked like and would be glad to finally wear something that didn't leave her body partially exposed. "Really? You're not just joshing with me are you, because that would be mean," She smiled up at him. "This is great, I love the idea of having you to myself for a more time, plus you still need to show me around,"

"Good," it made Bazzer happy to see her so happy. He enjoyed a good book too, but usually on a rainy day with nothing much to do, not like Aria seemed to, which was all the time. "Why don't we go upstairs and see what you have until dinner is brought up?" he suggested. "You're welcome to bring a book or two with you, if you'd like," he added with an amused smirk. He had competition. Definitely. That was okay, he could compete with a book.

Offering her his arm, he nodded, "There is a picnic tomorrow that some friends are holding in the park. Perhaps we could go and you could meet people and walk around?"

Aria could really put a cap on her happiness right now. Being in a room surrounded by books, all of them talking about things she'd never heard of was just too much to ignore. She wanted to sit there and just read, fill her head with all new knowledge of this new world she was living in. "Okay sure, I am curious to know what they look like. I bet they're pretty," She smiled grabbing a book from the desk quickly before coming back to him. He offered so she was definitely going to take him up on it. If she could have she would have taken a whole stack but settled for one. "Thanks, I was going to try and sneak one before you said something," she laughed before taking his arm with her free hand.

She was in her own little world for a moment before he started to speak and she smiled. "Sure, I suppose I'm going to have to get out of his place eventually right?" The thought of meeting people did have her a bit nervous, reminding herself to find that etiquette book if there was one. "You think you could well, teach me some customs when it comes to meeting people. I have a feeling it's a much more proper thing here when where I'm from meeting people is very casual,"

"I thought they were," Bazzer agreed, though he rarely paid much attention to the style and such of women's dresses. He simply liked them. They were pretty on ladies and that was enough for him. The nice thing about the tailor was that he made sure they were the proper colours for a lady and cut as well, so there was no need to worry about fit or not suiting someone.

"Indeed," he replied, amused as they headed up the stairs, "And I could. Really, simply remaining quiet and if they ask where you're from say that you are from south of the Grace river. If they press, simply say the town is called Chicago," that being where she was really from. "I will admit, geography is not a subject emphasized outside of this area, so most people's grasp of it south of that river is tenuous at best," he led her to her room and opened the closet where five new dresses now hung.

"Well I trust your opinion," she smiled as she found herself excited to see these dresses. She could only imagine what they would look like not to mention the thought of having something that really fit just her appealed to her greatly. It as not everyday that something was made just for her and she only hoped that if she did make it back to Chicago that she could take them back with her. Aria didn't know it for sure yet but she was pretty sure she was going to become pretty attached to them.

She listened as he told her to stay quiet, the feminist in her not being thrilled about that but she didn't want to make a bad impression. Even though this wasn't her world, they were friends of Bazzer and she didn't want to make him look bad. "South of Grace River, got it," She nodded with a smile. "So if I say I'm from Chicago no one will be able to call me on it, got it," She nodded as they entered her room. Seeing the beautiful new dresses in her closet she gasped. "Oh my god, they are so beautiful," She reached into the closet and ran her hands over the dresses just wanting to strip down and try them on right then.

It wasn't that he wanted her quiet because she was a woman or something, but because he was worried she would say something about the strange world she claimed to come from on accident. He wasn't entirely certain that he believed her, but the place seemed fascinating and she certainly believed it. That was enough for him not to mock it, but he didn't want her mocked or ridiculed either to her face or behind her back.

All the dresses were of a fall and winter weight, she would need more of course, but this was a good start for the moment. Each was matched to make her skin glow. "I'm glad you like them," Bazzer blushed softly. "You should try them on. I can call the maid..." he knew nothing of women's clothing really or how to help her dress. Going to the pull cord, he tugged it to summon her.
