Sort of a mix of different parts of the comics. Father: James "Jim" Worthington Gordon - Commissioner, Gotham City Police Department (GCPD) Mother: Sarah Essen Gordon (Estranged) Brother: James Gordon Jr. Friends: Oliver Queen (Smallville) Brief History: Blessed with a quick wit and a thirst for knowledge, Barbara Gordon is a true daughter of Gotham. Growing up in a metropolis of both sparkling wealth and crime-ridden slums, from a young age Barbara found herself surrounded by contrasts. The daughter of then Lieutenant - later Police Commissioner - James Gordon and his wife Sarah, Barbara grew up in a somewhat stable household until the age of 9 when her mother left, taking her older brother with her. From that point on it was just Barbara and her father and she spent much of her time after school doing her homework at the police station (and - when she was a bit older - the Gotham City Library). She became something of a fixture. As she grew older, Barbara was introduced to more of her father's friends - attending what society functions he was invited to along side him. She wowed other guests with her maturity and culture - one thing her father had always insisted on was that she be exposed to the arts. During this time she also realized that she had a nearly photographic memory, which came in very handy for school, helping her stay at the top of her class throughout high school and college. After graduating early from Gotham Central High School, Barbara enrolled at Gotham University (Gotham U.). Having gotten a workstudy position her freshman year at the university library, Barbara spent her second freshman semester and entire sophomore year abroad. Having received a scholarship, she studied history and computer science in London, Paris and Madrid. Returning home once again, Barbara took a year off from her studies, working at the main branch of the Gotham City Public Library, first in the Rare Texts Department then at the main desk. Upon her return to Gotham not only had Barbara changed - both physically and intellectually - but she found that the city had as well, and not necessarily for the better. There was - as her father had told her in letters - a man dressed as a bat who was keeping much of the criminal element at bay... Barbara found this facinating, and one very fortuitous night, at a costume party, chose to base her costume on this masked man... Unfortunately for Barbara (or fortunately as you might look at it), this party was crashed by one of Gotham's many roaming criminals... Not even thinking Barbara's self defense and gymnastics training seemed to take over as she protected some of her friends from the goons and kept them at bay until the police arrived... and that's when she realized it. And Batgirl was born... After hearing from Oliver Queen what had happened to Lana Lang, and getting all the information she needed from hacking the Manhattan, KS Police Database, she left Gotham - transferring to KSU. Other: During her lower school and college careers Barbara was on school gymnastics teams. She also has various gadgets that she uses as Batgirl; she has to be careful not to leave these items around and is pretty good at tinkering with them.
