024; 30 November 1979.
[Warded Private]

I am doing my best to simply not think about the fact that we are at eight weeks, there is still a month, perhaps a bit more, before we can count on this, and even if it - it could be another girl. And as much as I love Tullia and Prisca, I do not know what I will do if it is another girl. Laelia is giving me concern enough right now and I am thankful that I have at least a half dozen years before I begin to consider for my daughters.

Rabastan Lestrange. Laelia did not seem overwhelmingly thrilled to the idea, but it would be a good match. It would even marry her up, a bit and Father would not be able to disapprove of such a match.

If not Rabastan? Anselm Mulciber would be a possibility I suppose. The Rosier boys - the eldest is the heir and serious enough to be a possibility. Regulus Black is young and I frankly harbour some concern about his maturity however strong the match might be. If I take into account Laelia's request for someone more mature...

I would not have chosen Lucia, but it has worked. When one is well-matched in society, the rest will work itself out.

And it does me no good to wish that Father was here to make the preparations. He is not and I must do what I believe he would have done in his stead.

[Warded to Mina]
Luncheon on Wednesday? Would you be free?

[Warded to Laelia]
It was good to see you Friday, Laelia. Give my greetings to mother, if you will.

[Warded to the Inner Circle]
In truth, I think women are at least equally a curse as they are a blessing.

It is always a delight to turn on the wireless and note a bit of history being shared. Mrs Vaisey, I do wish to thank you for that tidbit. And while I am certain you looked at it, I would encourage anyone who is further interested in our first witch Minister of Magic, to check out Skeenspell's biography from Brookstanton. It is an entertaining and enlightening read.

Elaboration really isn't necessary.

As all of us have wives and daughters, no, it does not.

I have hopes for this ball Dulcinea is organising. I would prefer her to show a preference but she has been unmarried for too long. The decision cannot be delayed much longer.

Laelia seems completely unlikely to show a preference, but she is similar in age to Dulcinea if I recall correctly. I have mentioned to her that she might pay attention to her dance card at the ball. Perhaps I will get something from her in the New Year.

& apparently there was some incident among the women in the journals that had Lucia in an uproar. They give me a headache.

I am at a loss to explain Duclinea's lack of interest since she has never spoken against marriage, in fact she has been quite eager. I suppose I - no, we - must start considering the merits of the various young men of their age.

I had not heard of it. Honoria and Dulcinea must have missed it. I suspect that is a good thing. I would not fret too much. Women are prone to making a fuss over the oddest things.

Believe me, I have been considering such on and off for the past year. I suppose in some ways the mentorship program is an interesting way to view them in a more personal context.

True, though I fear my group are largely unsuitable.

That is true. And obviously I only have two of the four as Lucius is already married.

Has Anselm shown any interest in a young woman or is he as uninterested in the prospect of marriage as your daughter?

Not for the first time I find myself regretting the unfortunate circumstances of Severus' bloodline. Had he been a pureblood I might have found him acceptable. He is intelligent, skilled and loyal. Not exactly personable but that is a flaw that can be corrected. But it is not to be however. It will be several generations before his bloodline is returned to something approaching acceptable.

Not as yet. It is frustrating but as I married late I am prepared to give him a little more time.

You are the mentor for Rabastan Lestrange, are you not? What is your opinion of that young man.

He seems dedicated, which is certainly to be commendable, but you are correct that with his parentage, he cannot even be considered. Perhaps he can find a halfblood young woman of similar values to begin that process. I have no doubt he would raise his children properly.

If I had a son I would no doubt feel the same - after all I was nearly thirty so I could hardly speak too rashly.

Dedicated and reasonably proficient. His only flaw is perhaps a touch of arrogance, but that is likely a product of his family name and standing and time will temper it I should imagine.

I believe he would. Now there is a thought that I shall keep in mind. I would like to see Severus succeed and an appropriate wife could only help with that.

Hopefully his sister's marriage will remind him of his own duties to the family.

Thank you. Obviously I am taking him into consideration in regards to Dulcinea. I will have to speak to Caracatus but I wish to speak to Dulcinea first. I do not want her to be unhappy, just married.

I suppose in that young man's case mentoring might need to branch into a few additional areas outside of his skills for the Dark Lord. I doubt he has had much guidance from home.

He is around Laelia's age, is he not? Still young for a young man Although if Regulus but a reminder never hurts.

I had assumed as much. I would not hesitate to recommend him, should Dulcinea be so inclined. Unhappiness is never a preferred outcome of a union.
