[Warded to Death Eaters] You are all expected to attend the Masquerade this evening. Our Lord desires to make an appearance there and we must be available to prepare his way.
Barty has kindly provided us with information about the security that the DMLE has set up, which has assisted us in our plans for the evening. The Minister of Magic taking the stage to announce costume winners will be your cue. Those of us in the Inner Circle will move towards the door of the ball first where we will prepare a place for us to change from our Masquerade costumes into our masks and robes.
Then we will seek out those in the DMLE so that the Dark Lord can make his entrance without difficulty. There will be a large number of civilians at this event, and unless you know the civilian is a mudblood with absolute certainty they are not to be targeted. Without knowing who is under the mask, it is difficult to know if they would be a pureblood or of the proper viewpoints and the Dark Lord does not wish any of magical blood to be harmed unnecessarily. If they attack you, it does not mean you can not fend them off, but do not kill them.
After the Dark Lord places the Dark Mark in the sky you will be free to leave.

I confess I miss this study area when we are at Nott Manor during the summer. The Woodlands seem to almost breathe words onto my parchment without struggle. Or perhaps it is merely that I inked most of my first book here in this study that I have a preference for it. Such preferences are emotional and not rational, but I suppose such is likely.

[Warded to Inner Circle] I have been working on a project with the permission of our Lord and believe it is time for us to all begin to discuss it in more detail.
In short, I have felt that the Outer Circle needs more direct guidance. While most whom have been in His service for longer are well prepared, there are still many who have been within his ranks only a year at most. My proposal to the Dark Lord was that those of us whom are among his inner circle would undertake the training and responsibility of those in the Outer Circle.
It would be our responsibility to keep our eyes on those whom are our Mentees. We would train specifically with them, look for weaknesses, and work to encourage more appropriate behaviour publicly when necessary. Although they would continue to answer to all of us, they would have the direct guidance of one of us in order to settle them and help them best learn to serve His will.
In preparation for this, I have begun working with names and considering how rightly to place these individuals in order to best facilitate their learning. For the moment, I have come up with some initial placements. I am of course, open to your suggestions or improvements. Naturally, all final decisions will be made by our Lord.
[Warded to Lucia]Will you ensure that Laelia has an appropriate costume regardless of what Mother may or may not have ordered? I am afraid Mother's expectations may be somewhat unlikely.

I returned some titles this afternoon to the library and found that it is good to see so much work being done there. It was at the very least somewhat disturbing to see a hole in the wall, and equally pleasing to see that the hole at least has been repaired. In some ways this is no doubt the easiest part of the work that must be done, but I can see that many are hard at work to return the Reference & Special Collections to their original glory as much as is physically possible to do so.
[Warded to Barty Crouch Jr]What can you tell me about the DMLE's activities on the night of the Masquerade?
[Warded Private]There are six of us. We must each be willing to take on the Outer Circle at this point in time. Each one of them should have an Inner Circle mentor that they are responsible to. In most cases these decisions are clear cut - the person who brought them into the fold is likely the person they would begin with, but there may be some cases where that is not the most beneficial to his plan.
I will begin with who has brought them in and then the Inner Circle will meet and we will make final selections. Hopefully by the end of the week we can announce the pairings to the Outer Circle.
I know I would like for any under my care to train thoroughly for the rest of the month if we are to be fighting at the Masquerade.

My deepest sympathies to the Avery family. I hope the DMLE will be able to find their daughter and son-in-law. I have two daughters of my own and know that if either of them were missing I would leave no stone unturned in pursuit of their safe return.
The entire situation is disturbing. Considering Mr Avery's dedication to the Ministry, I am certain that the DMLE must have had incontrovertible evidence his son was a confirmed Death Eater although the article listed none. It is certainly a terrible situation for all involved and the family is in my thoughts.

[Warded to Death Eaters]Gavin Avery is dead. This leads me to wonder if the warning I gave earlier in the week was in some way unclear. Gavin Avery discussed his position with his sister, A blood traitor, and this decision has cost him his life, his family their heir, and may have endangered others among us.
You fight for a myriad of personal reasons, but we fight for the same goal. If you are compromised it is not only yourself, but each of your colleagues, your families, and the goals of our lord that are endangered. Discretion is essential. You do not allow yourself to be seen as a Death Eater. You do not discuss this organization with non-supporters and blood traitors. You do not discuss the details of missions outside of those privy to the information.
It is your responsibility that your identity remains unknown. If you fail in that task the Dark Lord and his Inner Circle must make decisions for the common good looking not at individual desires but at the future world we strive towards. Today's decision is one I expect us to never have to make again, but do not be deceived into thinking we will not do so if it should become necessary.

[Warded Private]Apparently the Inner Circle will be meeting this morning. This coming on the heals of my conversation with the Dark Lord proves only that what I was saying was true. The younger generation has no comprehension of the seriousness of the duties that they are requested to perform and we must impress it upon them.
Avery is Xavier's son; he is not some halfblood prodigy like Snape but rather the son of one of his Inner Circle. We should not be required to have these conversations.
Perhaps I am too dire. After all, this is the DMLE and their information and informants may be less than trustworthy. But Gavin has too much information and could compromise too many. This cannot be taken lightly.

Barty: Take care of Gavin Avery. Be careful and clean - nothing should point back to you.
The Corners will also need to be taken care of. Once again, this should be done carefully and cleanly. I do not wish to see any more arrests this week. If you think you can do the job, convince me below.
