I finally filed my tax return today, and barring any problems, should have a refund coming my way in about a month and a half. And I'm considering spending some of it on the exact same thing I splurged on with my last tax refund: an eReader. Since buying the first one about a year ago I've read about as many books as I did in the six-seven years before that combined. So I definintely consider it a worthwhile investment. And the one I have my eye on has the exact features I was looking for last year: touchscreen and 16 level grayscale, with the additional feature of wifi. And BeBook even has their own rebranded version (is it bad that I almost want to buy the BeBook rebrand just because I think the splash screen is so much prettier?)

GOING TO SEE IRON MAN 2 IN LESS THAN THREE HOURS! Woohoo! I haven't been this excited about seeing a movie in a long time. I just hope my high expectations don't lead to a big letdown if the movie doesn't live up to the original.

Since I decided against watching Modern Family this season, naturally I'm now translating it. NATURALLY. Because god is punishing me (god being my boss, of course). My biggest contention with the show was Phil, but I have to say I'm pretty okay with it anyway. I mean, I'm getting paid to watch it, so having to suffer through Phil isn't as bad as it could have been. (Just from the pilot, he ranked right up there with Michael Scott as embarrassing characters I couldn't stand to watch. And while the other episodes - I'm up to 1x03 - haven't been as bad, I'm pretty sure I could grow to loathe him.)

I'm a little surprised that it's labeled a mockumentary at Wikipedia, though. It doesn't feel at all as a mockumentary except for the talking heads they do. I haven't made it far into the series, but does the mockumentary format become more prominent at some point?

I often have that sudden inspiration of posting about something, but then I always think that that one thing isn't enough and can never think of another subject to post about and then I just give up on the whole idea. I'm not sure why I have that block, I used to post about just about anything, just about any time I felt like it.

On a final note: Dreamhost moved my site to a new server this morning with hardly any notice, and while the only difference I've noticed has been that it's become much zippier, there may be issues somewhere that I'm not finding. If you see something amiss, can you let me know (this goes double for you, bellanut and typicrobots)?

This is a nonsensical comparative picspam post. See, for the past while, whenever I've seen a cap that reminds me of another - from anyplace else! - I've tried to remember to save it in a folder. For a few years of saving, not a whole lot to show for it, but it wasn't like this Grand Plan or anything. Anyway, today I put them together in picspam form.

I don't think I talked about it all that much, but most of the fall I was living with my parents because my kitchen and bathroom were being remodeled. (Of course, one reason for the lack of talking was probably the lack of posting.)

I know know how much I enjoy seeing how my flist lives, so maybe someone will get a kick out of this?

Fandom Steel Cage Match is giving me ulcers, even just in the prelims. And it seems like I've become disproportionally invested in races where I don't even watch the show! (GO, CHLOE, GO! Don't let those sockpuppet journals beat you!). And so many others are so close that I'll be biting my nails until typicrobots closes the poll.

I'm also pretty heavily invested in the Sci-Fi side of things, with at least three out of my dream!dream final four coming from that bracket. But in the real world, my dream final four would probably be Aeryn, Lorelai Gilmore, Chandler and Pacey duking it out. Or Buffy, Bones, Jon Stewart and Pacey. (Because no one beats Pacey in the Teen bracket, I've decided. Right now. Talk to me in an hour and I might be telling a different story.)

The Snowcalypse is upon us, so I'll be working from home for the rest of the week. So I was hoping to get a cap game in at some point. It's been so long that I can't even remember the last time I did one. Remember when I used to do those things almost weekly? Yeah, me neither.

Also, I was sick of winter the day after Christmas, is it over soon? /whine

I'm caught up on almost everything TV. ( Not-really-spoilery opinions. )

Right now, I've got White Collar, NCIS, Better Off Ted and Damages all cued up in Zoom Player, so I'm going to tackle some of those before bed.

For the past week or so, I've immersed myself in two shows:

På spåret, a Swedish game show/geography quiz that I recently discovered is available online. And that is the only way I will ever watch a Swedish show (though this is pretty much the only one I'll ever make an effort to watch), because even if someone reminds me 15 minutes before a show starts, I will inevitably forget about it. I think my brain has been rewired to not think of schedules when it comes to TV, so I just can't keep to it.

Hoarders. You know, I used to think I had hoarding tendencies (just take a look at my DVDs), but watching this show makes me realize ( that I so do NOT. )

My capping continues apace. I capped The Proposal the other day. And I finished Parks and Recreation season 1. Now onward to season 2! (Watching, not capping.)

This VM fic makes me so happy. It feels like the author is making sense out of all the things I never thought made sense in season 3. Dealt with in this chapter: Duncan, Piz, the FBI. But if you're allergic to WIPs, I'd recommend staying far away from this one. I think it's been over a year since the last update and we're only on chapter four. So, yeah...

I bought myself a new laptop with a touchscreen, and because the software provided had Twitter compatability, I got myself an account. I've been reading it and trying to get the flow of the thing, but I gotta say, I'm still not sure. Even in my one lonely tweet, I still wanted to add about another post's worth. So what's the point if I know myself enough to know I'm too wordy? But add away if you're so inclined! I've added some accounts I recognized, but I'm sure I've missed a ton.

The touchscreen though? AWESOME!

Since I'm not making icon posts any more, I'm also not getting any feedback. And sometimes I miss it! So I participated in an icon meme:




Personally, my biggest problem with my icons is lack of originality. I keep iconing the same caps over and over (I just want an icon I love from a cap I love! But still - BORING). I feel like I'm never doing anything new, just the same old thing over and over (with varying results).

I'm sick. And it's like the worst week ever for me to be sick (pre-EMA programs with short deadlines that have to be done immediately), but I'm still staying home tomorrow to work. May not be the best for getting work done, but I need to not be at work when I'm feeling like this.

I thought I'd find myself some downloads of the new Emma mini series and really just wallow in my misery.

Two things I've loved lately:

1. LJ's Note feature. I used to have the Greasemonkey script that basically did the same thing, but with this feature it doesn't just work on one of my computers, but all of them, and any other I might use. Score!


2. VLC Player. Now, I know everyone's been raving about this player for years, but I've always preferred Zoom Player (for its playlist function, mostly). Well, I finally found something I love it for: IT REMOVES REGION ENCODING ON DVDs!!! I can switch between region 1 and 2 with impunity! This is so awesome, I can't even tell you. Now if the capping function was only a bit better (though the frame-by-frame stepping thing has already improved it by a factor of a about a million!) (Caveat: According to VLC developers, they can't guarantee that it removes region encoding, but it'll try!)

You'll have to forgive me for being picspam crazy right now, but I just found a good copy of The Proposal, and I've wanted to picspam it since I saw it in theaters. And when the DVD comes out there may even be caps!

[Oh, and speaking of caps, I keep forgetting this, but the caps from the Fringe picspam I did the other week are uploaded here. Not even 300 caps for the entire season, but I figure I won't be needing much more than that. Also, remember saava's Farscape-Caps.com? Well, at one point I managed to download all the albums, and I asked Angie if she would mind if I shared them (because I've uploaded them to an online gallery anyway since I HATE going throuh caps on my harddrive) and she said I could go right ahead. So they're here. There are even a few extras that weren't on Angie's site, like bloopers and the makeup test (they're still Angie's caps, though).]
