Feb. 12th, 2009

TV

I can't believe that there still hasn't shown up a downloadable copy of HIMYM 4x15. I mean, people have it. And they've gotten it from multiple places. And no one is tech savy enough to remove the personal info and upload it to us poor embittered souls who are doing without. Won't someone please think of the children fans?!

And while I'm on the subject, why wasn't the airing moved up just a week? Isn't February still a sweeps month?

I have watched other stuff, though:

Top Chef )

The Big Bang Theory )

Friday Night Lights, season 3 )

Being Erica )

Jan. 26th, 2009

Your wish, my command

So, in accordance with the poll results, I started with Friday Night Lights season 2. )

And I have a few thoughts on Shows Currently Airing.

How I Met Your Mother )

The Office )

Top Chef )

Being Erica )

To Love and Die )

Also, I've been watching a lot of movies (well, for me), so here are a few reviews. Spoilers for Revolutionary Road, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and Slumdog Millionaire. )

Jan. 19th, 2009

Even though I woke up more than ten hours ago, I still haven't rid myself of my morning sluggishness. Of course, this may have something to do with staying up all hours of the night, hemming trousers of all things. Yeah, I don't even know why I felt that that was something I needed to do at two am, but whatever.

And then I spent the day translating The Colbert Report, which I'm not convinced was the greatest of ideas considering how ineffectual my brain is today, but it's not like I had a choice. It's kind of fun translating the global edition (the credit word is "globallsy" in case you're curious), none of that censoring nonsense, so those "fucking squirrels" remained intact. =)

After almost 20 days of keeping track of TV episodes (new episodes only. Apparently I made this decision at some point, I'm not even sure when), I've averaged about 6.5 episodes a day. I'm pretty freaking impressed by that since I don't fell like I've been watching all that much TV. Of course, once I start marathoning any of the many many MANY shows I plan to rewatch, that number will go down. I think. I should probably never underestimate my powers of television watchage.

So, I just finished watching all of Titus (which I'd translated a few episodes of, but hardly seen any of the rest, as I discovered) and now I can't decide what's next. So therefore, a poll!

Also, I finally uploaded a bunch of new icons. I've been making loads lately (I have a lot of spots to fill), but it wasn't until this weekend that I felt I actually got some I could use. I hate losing my icon-making mojo like that, because the only way to get out of it is to work through it. And there's nothing worse than making sucky icon after sucky icon, thinking "what if they never stop sucking?". Whatever, they're uploaded now, and maybe I can start with a clean slate.

Epiphany is just like any other day...

...except you get to have the day off. So I took a drive and ended up at Drottningholm. I parked, grabbed my camera and went for a walk. )

Afterwards I went grocery shopping and in the fifteen minutes I was in the store it had gotten dark and started snowing quite heavily. While it's been pretty damn cold lately, we've hardly had any snow. I am not looking forward to digging out my car tomorrow morning.

On a whim, I started keeping track of the TV episodes I've watched this year, and right now I'm at 28. If this keeps up I'll have absolutely no problem reaching 1000 episodes. In fact, I'd probably clear 2000 with a comfortable margin. Yikes!

And I haven't even watched Jon and Stephen yet! (I kinda forgot that for pretty much everyone else, this is just another ordinary day.) And I'm in the middle of yet another episode of Grand Designs. I'll top at least 30 before the day is over. IN SIX DAYS. And I'm not even counting the two TV episodes I watched while proof-reading, or the episode I translated this week.

I don't know if it's because I've been so disconnected from LJ this fall, but my only reaction to the news of the firings was that it would probably crush me to lose some of the fic that's posted here - and only here. I think I'm going to have to go find some of my faves and back them up, just in case.

That's not to say it wouldn't be devastating to lose all the people around here, but I really don't think that would happen even if the site disappeared completely (which I don't believe it will). Sooner or later, most everyone would gravitate to one place or another, and as long as you've got an email adress for at least one person you're going to be okay.

It's 2009! Hallelujah!

For someone who doesn't really make new year's resolutions, I feel like I've made quite a lot of them this year. Mostly they're continuations of things I'm already doing, I'm just buckling down and focusing on them. So, this year I'm:

  • Lending more money through Kiva.org. Not just making the odd loan whenever I remember to go to the site, but I'll be putting in 25 dollars every month. And with the loans that are being repaid, that should mean about 15 new loans over the next year. Possibly more, depends on the time they'll be paid back.

  • Reading more books. Okay, so this was my only "non-resolution" last year and I failed miserably - except in one aspect: I started reading books in genres I don't usually read. Books that take time and consideration in a way thrillers and mysteries just don't. I think that's why I couldn't quite get the hang of it - it was like learning to read again.

  • Paying back debt. (Says she who just spent 100 bucks at BPAL. Sorry, $100.50..)

  • Trying to make some headway on all those picspams I've got planned. There are so many of them and they're so ambitious (well, some of them) that I just feel overwhelmed by it. My new motto when it comes to picspams: Just do it.

  • Taking more pictures. And since my parents gave me a new camera for Christmas, I've already made some headway on this one. )

Happy Day 3: Okay, I'm the saddest person ever, but discovering the Stay on Top and Opacity functions on the Stickies program that Tissa linked to the other week made me practically giddy today. I LOVE this application.

Other things making me happy today:

  • It was my last day working in the office until next year. Because I took the coming two weeks off, the week after that I'm working from home, and the week after that it'll be January 5th, 2009.

  • It's going to be 2009 soon! This miserable excuse for a year is finally coming to an end. About freakin' time.

  • The second episode of Leverage aired! Not that I've had time to watch it, mind you, but at least it aired.

Happy Day 2: Spoilery for How I Met Your Mother. )

Dec. 8th, 2008

I've become (re-)obsessed with online games. Mostly puzzle games. Some of my favorites from the past few weeks:

  • Word Bubbles. Not at all a puzzle game, but a word game. [info]poshcat linked it last week or so, and I've been playing it daily since. I LOVE THIS ONE.

  • Atomica. This is a lot like Clines (which came in real handy when my internet was down at work the other day).

  • Tower Builder. I was obsessed with this one a month or so ago.

So, anyone got any online game recs? Time-waster recs, if you will.

So, [info]dianora2 had this meme.
1. Post about something that made you happy today even if it's just a small thing.
2. Do this every day for a week without fail.
3. Tag 8 of your friends to do the same.

Happy Day 1: I set up my new work computer today, and thanks to the replies in my last post, it worked like a charm! Oh my god, having all my passwords, my extensions, my Clippings, my autofills right there at my fingertips in a few seconds flat? HEAVENLY. And then I spent the afternoon translating The Office (season 1), and watching/proof reading Dead Like Me and Monk. It was a pretty damn good work day, let me tell you. The boss even brought in some pastry for the afternoon coffee tea break. =)

I'm not tagging anyone, this is more to force myself to post every day for 7 days straight. Let's see if I can keep it up!

Some TV:

TAR )

Billable Hours season 1 )

Of the two comedies about mean people I've been watching lately, I have to say, I prefer It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia )

Nov. 26th, 2008

This is turning into a bad habit

Question!

Does anyone know of a Firefox extension that saves all your extensions, passwords, etc, either into a file, or somewhere online? I could have sworn I found somthing like that a year or so ago, but right now I can't even think of what search terms to use.

I'd just really like to make getting a new work computer as painless as possible.

Tissa linked Stickies and I'm already in love. For the longest time, I haven't been using any type of paper to take notes, and my memory just isn't up to storing all this short-term info I've got to retain for an hour, a day or a week. I've tried Google Notebook, but opening a web site is just too work-intensive for something as simple as writing down a phone number. This application is just perfect.

I'm making to do lists all the time, saving often-used text (not the ones I use online, though, I've got Clippings for that), and I think I'm even going to start making post-its for birthdays, since there's a "sleep" function that means you can have a post-it appear yearly, or monthly, or weekly. There are also alarms and all kinds of other fun stuff.

Here's a chicken-or-egg conundrum for you: Am I feeling lacklustre about TV right now because I don't have time to focus on it because work is sucking up all my time, or is TV actually lacklustre and thus leading to me getting even more caught up in work than I otherwise would? Who knows, but I can't say anything's wowing me right now. I have a few things to say about TAR and Life, though. )

Also, I am an episode and a half away from finishing my complete rewatch of The West Wing, and I have thoughts. )

Life and life

My job is taking its toll on me. )

So I'm too exhausted to do anything but watch TV Oh, the irony! (Spoilers for Life, HIMYM, The Office, Fringe, My Own Worst Enemy, Pushing Daisies and The Amazing Race. )

Oct. 9th, 2008

Ugh

After a few months of not complete and utter horror, I thought that 2008 might make a comeback and not turn out quite as atrocious as I thought it would be. Well, I guess it was just saving up for this past week, because I can now officially say that 2008 is just a huge ball of SUCK.

I am so ready for this year to be over.

Hey, remember this one?!

Yeah, I don't blame you. I never meant to wait this long to post, but site hijackings destroyed my will to picspam happened, and A Clockwork Nebari was NOT helping. So here, finally, is part 2 of the Aeryn Is Pretty picspam. There will be two more parts posted. You know, sometime.

Love is in the air

I haven't posted in over two weeks, and I feel less and less inclined to do so with each day that passes, so right now I'm forcing myself to post something. Might as well be something useful, right? So here's an update on my Extensions=love post, which I have reposted in full, with new extensions in burgundy.

Fandom can be awesome. And not.

So, this latest fandom debacle finally got me to read up more on OTW, and now I can't wait for this thing to get off the ground! )

I finally figured out how to cap on my new computer (I kinda had to figure it out, my old computer was dying by degrees), and it was as simple as using an older version of PowerDVD. So I've done just a tiiiiny bit of capping. More to come, though.

Bones
1x17 - The Skull in the Desert

Pushing Daisies
1x04 - Pigeon

In other news, I've been looking around the icon communities, trying to get inspired (which hasn't worked, FYI, my main inspiration right now remains BLUE), and I noticed this meme going around, and I'd love it if you'd participate:
