*grump*

So, it looks like the Golden Globes may be cancelled in its entirety. And not just the telecast, the whole shebang, with just an announcement of the winners. Can I just say that I think they should do this every year? Is there really anyone left who cares about the Globes, the Oscars or the Emmys other than as a source of ridicule?

And now, a brief letter of some import (probably just to me, but still):

Dear fic writers Internet users EVERYONE EVER.

I know I've talked about this before, but it's apparently not sinking in, so here is my last-ditch attempt at saving my frontal lobe from complete annihilation...

If you don't know the difference between it's and its, please, for the love of all that is holy, stop using it's altogether. I know you don't think it's possible, but it really, really, REALLY is, because, you see, contrary to what you seem to think, it's is only used as a contraction for it is. That's it! So use its and it is and you'll be a much better more grammatically correct person for it.

Thanks in advance,
Jems

I capped The Bourne Ultimatum, but when I was finally done (it's not a cinematography style suited to capping), my gallery kept timing out on me so I couldn't upload the damn caps to the album.

This prompted me to finally start transferring the television caps that used to be in that gallery into their own Misc. TV gallery (which I set up months ago, incidentally). I'm only about half-way done, but if you're looking for caps that seem to have mysteriously disappeared, they're most likely there or in transit.

Anyway, the Bourne caps are finally in the album, in case you're interested.

I'm trying to find a new layout, does anyone have any comm and/or LJ-er that they can recommend for pre-made layouts besides [info]the_fulcrum?

Playing TV catch-up

It's hard to work when your head is spinning, so instead I've been watching some TV over the last couple of days...

The Amazing Race )

Project Runway )

Gossip Girl )

The Wire )

sick, sick, sick

Most of you seem to be only too happy that 2007 is but a memory, but I actually had a pretty good year. However, if the first two days of 2008 are any indication, this year will not be so good.

It started at four am on New Year's Eve, as I in vain tried to sleep while my neighbors cranked their karaoke machine up to the highest setting. Now, I like to think I'm a pretty tolerant neighbor, and had it just been music I wouldn't have minded, but being tortured with drunken and inept singers at four am is just not fun.

Then on New Year's Day I wake up with a cold. This cold stayed with me throughout all of yesterday and today, today with the added bonus of a pounding headache!

2008 can start getting better any minute now. *taps foot impatiently*

My one and only resolution this year is to read more. I'm going to try to read 50 books, but that's not the resolution - reading is. Last year my resolution wasn't to watch 100 movies, it was learning to like movies again (which I think I did).

I've seen people posting their books/movies/tv show lists public, but I've privated mine, and I'll make it public at the end of the year, just like last year. Unless people are wildly curious about what I'm up to?

The whole "watch 500 episodes" thing is kind of laughable to me, though, because I watched 83 full seasons of shows, and if I estimated an average of 18 episodes per season, that's still almost 1500 episodes in one year. In other words, I won't be counting episodes. I'm not sure the entry wouldn't max out on characters before the six-month mark.

I spent part of New Year's Eve putting my DVDs - which had been scattered all over my apartment - in order (to get a fresh start for the new year). Then I took pictures, because I'm thinking if I ever have to put in an insurance claim for all these DVDs, no one's going to believe me if I don't have proof.

Hence, EVIDENCE. Totally utlilitarian, so no prettying up of images. )

Hopeful

I have reached my goal! Woohoo, 100 101 movies! I actually watched FIVE yesterday, though I went off-course a bit when I went to a friend's place to watch some movies last night. We saw The Simpsons Movie, Babel and Requiem for a Dream, and in addition, I watched Pan's Labyrinth and Casablanca, and then today I saw Brokeback Mountain and Hotel Rwanda.

So now I'm trying to finish off my Year in Entertainment post (which I've also made public), and I realized it might be a good idea to add the shows I watch that have finished airing all their pre-strike episodes in case there won't be any more this season (and I forget which ones I finished before the new year and which ones I didn't). So far I've got:

The Office
Pushing Daisies
How I Met Your Mother

But what about:

30 Rock
Bones
Chuck
Gossip Girl
My Name is Earl
Samantha Who?

....

aaand that's all I can think of, though I feel like there should be more.

Since I probably won't be posting more before the new year, HAPPY NEW YEAR, EVERYONE!

Dec. 18th, 2007

I'll be there for you...or not.

  1. Tonight, I finally made several icons I like in the same sitting, and I'm thinking this might mean I'll finally be able to get back to those requests. Which I, contrary to what one might think, haven't forgotten, I've just sucked in the icon-making department in the past few months.

  2. I've been rewatching Friends and I'm finally up to season 5 - my favorite. Which I've already rewatched once this year, but that didn't stop me from looking forward to it all through seasons 3 and 4. So far, the things that bugged me about the show towards the end there haven't reared their ugly heads, but I have a feeling I'll start getting annoyed in a season or two.

  3. I have Pushing Daisies thoughts! )

  4. So, it seems Leno and Conan are returning in January, and I'm very conflicted. On the one hand, they're doing it to keep from laying people off, but on the other hand, how will I feel about the people who cross the picket line to appear on the show? And I'll most likely have to translate some episodes of Conan, and I'm not sure just how exactly to feel about that either. I'd much rather prefer that they did what Letterman is doing and took the WGA up on the offer for individual negotiations.

  5. I bought about half of my Christmas presents online this year, and I haven't bought any of the rest yet. Next year, I think I'll be buying them ALL online, because it's such a stress-free way of doing it.

  6. Speaking of Christmas, I'm thinking of taking two days' vacation time and getting 12 days off this Christmas. I love how my birthday is a holiday in this country. *g*

  7. I keep meaning to post a game of some sort, but the trivia game I started coming up with only has THREE questions, and the movie cap game I thought about posting on Friday just sort of fizzled when I couldn't work up the energy to cap the movies I intended to use. But I'm determined to post one of the games (or some other game) sometime this week. Even though I imagine there won't be a lot of people around to play, but those of us stuck at work this week will probably need some distraction.

  8. Belated happy birthday, Laura! =)

Extensions = love

I always seem to do extension links piecemeal, but I wanted them all collected in one place. And I'm gonna try to keep this post updated as I link new extensions in the future. New extensions are red. Well, burgundy.

Do they know it's Christmas time at all?

I just spent way too long downloading and obscene amount of Christmas music from this post. And because I just watched New Amsterdam, and there was a The Decemberists song featured in the pilot, I'm wondering if they've ever done any Christmas music. Or if any of their own songs have some sort of mention of Christmas. I can't think of any...

Fandom wish list. )

Haha, I tried to pick an icon for this and I have all of two icons from Christmas-themed episodes. This one I'm using, and this one. Makes even me wonder if I hate the holiday. (For the record, I don't, but I have become slightly apathetic in the past few years.)

Dec. 4th, 2007

this is my subject line

So, prereleases of the next two Dexter episodes puts me not just barely three episodes behind ("barely" because episode 2x10 aired last night and even if I'd be caught up with the other two, it's not certain that I'd have had time to watch it yet), but FIVE. I don't know why I keep falling behind all the time, I love the show whenever I watch it. Maybe it's that I usually watch stuff on my lunch hour and Dexter just doesn't work for me in the middle of the work day. I usually watch lighter fare, like the Daily Show, Colbert Report (*sniff*) and comedies.

Does anyone else use Google Calendar and Google Documents in conjunction with their gmail? I've been trying to figure out if there's a way to "attach" documents to an item in your calendar, or at least link it to a document in Google Documents, but so far I'm a bit clueless. Is that possible?

I'm a moron, how are you?

Man, I am such a doofus. I knew that the Long Way Down DVDs had already shipped, since I got my shipping notice yesterday, and yet I still didn't think to check the torrent sites until just now. Turns out I could have downloaded the final episode yesterday morning. Go me!

The only productive things I've done this weekend has been putting up my Christmas decorations, baking cinnamon buns yesterday (I only wanted, like, two, so now I have to find someone to pawn them off on), making lasagne today and then doing a bit of work this afternoon. Other than that? All fic, all the time. Man, I've been bitten by the fic bug again, and this is NOT GOOD. Especially since I kinda need to read Northern Lights (or is it The Northern Lights?) before the movie premieres here (whenever that is) and am soon embarking on my Year of Reading thing. I'm hoping that by indulging right now I'll be getting it out of my system before the new year. Yeah RIGHT.

On a final note, I'm going to be buying a new copy of season 2 of The West Wing (I want the anamorphic widescreen instead of the full screen version I have right now), and since my season 1 and 2 DVDs are a set I figured I'd find season 1 cheap somewhere too, so is there anyone who wants my copies of the first two seasons? They're region 2, and I'd prefer it if they go to someone who hasn't seen the show and would like to try it, but if no newbie speaks up, a big fan of the first two seasons is also acceptable. *g* Just to be clear, I'm not asking you to buy them, I'll send them free of charge anywhere in Europe.

books and words

So, I just finished something I had to have done by tomorrow morning, and even though I have to be up in about five hours I'm too wired to go to sleep. Figured I'd wait up for the TAR torrent while I was at it. I mean, at this point, why not?

It was a script for an instructional DVD that has taken me the better part of the weekend to translate, but at least it got me caught up on my movie watching. Since Friday - when I started - I've watched six movies. And I think I could even pick the plots of those movies out of a line-up if I had to. I did elect to only watch those movies I only had a passing interest in since I'd be working while watching, so I've seen nothing I'd recommend.

I've also spent an obscene amount of time (considering I should have been working) reading J/D fics. Today I started on this AU season 8 and it's making me miss the show something fierce. Even though I'm in the middle of a rewatch, go figure.

I've updated my reading list! )

Nov. 18th, 2007

don't get any big ideas

In the comments of my post last week there was a discussion about the second (in actual fact, the third) door in Josh's office, and whether anyone ever used it. A lo and behold, in the very next episode I watch (Celestial Navigation for those playing at home) what do I see? That's right, Sam entering through the door. Of course, when I said in the comments that I knew that Sam entered through that door in a scene, that wasn't the scene I was talking about, so I'm still going to have to keep an eye out for that one.

For some reason I fell behind on Dexter and I only just watched the last couple of episodes in the past few days. Dexter, w/ 2x06 picspam! )

Here's hoping Long Way Down isn't as late this week as it was last week, because 2 am is really altogether too late to start watching something that's an hour long.

Yes, Doug can read.

My movie watching isn't going so well. I'm at 81 movies so far for the year, and I wouldn't be worried, because 19 movies in one month really isn't all that hard, but I've been seriously disinterested in watching movies the past few months. Of course, in that time I've watched about 20 complete seasons of different shows (I'm at 69 for the year), so it's not like I've had time to watch any movies.

I just need to discipline myself. I've got at least 20 movies I haven't watched just sitting around here at home, so it's not like it's going to involve a lot of effort figuring out what to watch.

Speaking of disciplining myself, my project for next year is to read. I haven't decided whether to go for the full 50 books in one year (I've done it before, plenty of times, but in the past few years I've usually only read 10-15) or whether to just halve it so I won't feel completely stressed out. I'm already putting together a reading list: These are all books I already own. )

I'm already planning for the repercussions of the writers' strike. )

Remember my brilliant idea to marathon show in small chunks? Turns out there's a hitch. )

Long Way Down!!!

You know, I thought I might have been building up the anticipation for so long that the actual show would be a letdown, BUT IT TOTALLY WASN'T. So much love that I had to picspam, even though I knew Steph would be doing the same (it's right here, by the way).

So without further ado... )

So, I'm seeing a lot of comments about the new pop-up things. I don't get them because I have the NoScript extension installed (thank you VERY much once again, Firefox), but Teija mentioned how to disable them. I've copy-pasted the info since it's hard to rewrite it when I can't actually go and find out for myself. *g*

You can turn them off if you put up with one and use the little gear icon to mess with the options. You can't just hit 'disable,' it didn't work for me, you actually have to mess with the options. But after that it worked.

I didn't understand a word of that, but maybe those who want to get rid of it can make sense of it? Or just install NoScript or AdBlock.

I'm so freaked out by the news that there actually is going to be another X-Files movie. In spite of hoping, I never really thought they'd go through with it. Now please, just don't suck.

Weekend O' Sloth

I'm sitting here, anxiously awaiting the end of Long Way Down on BBC Two (update: by the time I'm ready to post it's already been over for 40 minutes. And not a file in sight. *sigh*, and wondering if anyone will think to upload it quickly so that I can see it sometime tonight. Thankfully there was Daylight Savings, so my internal clock still thinks it's ten pm instead of eleven.

So, in the meantime, icon meme!

Comment on this post saying you want to play. I'll choose sevenuserpics from your profile and you'll reply here (or you know, your own journal, whichever), explaining what they mean and why you're using them. Post this along with your answers in your own journal so otherscan play along.

[info]sinca asked about these icons. )

And I'll even extend the meme to the comments if anyone wants to ask me about any other icons. Or ask me to pick from yours, of course.

In other news, this weekend I watched all three seasons of Black Books, and I LOVED it. I really want to be capping it right now. And I also watched the first four episodes of Skins. Aside from the two hour nap I took yesterday, I've pretty much been glued to the TV set all day long for two straight days. And it's been fabulous! *g*

out in the black

My annual Firefly rewatch is almost done, and it was about time! I was down to just two icons, and that's just not right.

This rewatch has confirmed that I was about one guest spot away from becoming a full-fledged Mal/YoSaffBridge 'shipper. And suddenly I've got a hankering to read fic! Only, I don't know where to start. Anyone got any recs? I realize the pairing is probably (I really don't know anything about the Firefly fandom) rare, so I'd be happy just to be recced general Firefly fic comms and/or archives. Somewhere to start, you know?

More caps!

Pushing Daisies
1x03 - The Fun in Funeral.

Dexter
1x05 - Love American Style
1x06 - Return to Sender
1x07 - Circle of Friends
1x08 - Shrink Wrap

Movies
Down with Love
The Virgin Suicides

Everyone's talking about icons today! I guess I will too.

Meme stolen from [info]crackers4jenn:

Look at your LJ userpics list. If you have fewer than 50 icons, pick every fifth one. If you have between fifty and seventy-five icons, pick every seventh one. If you have over seventy-five icons, pick everytenth one. If you have fewer than ten, pick all of 'em. List them onyour LJ, and tell everyone exactly why you have it, why it'sinteresting to you, what significance does it have.
