way down in the hole

Friday Night Lights 2x02 )

Since I started falling behind so early in the season, I decided that I would try something new. Unless I absolutely LOVE a show and "need to watch it right away, OMG!" (which means HIMYM, 30 Rock, Office, MNIE, Dexter, Bones, Daily Show, Colbert Report and, once they start, Project Runway and probably TAR [more for spoiler reasons than OMG!love reasons]), I'm saving them up and watching them in blocks.

I just did my first mini-marathon today:

Moonlight 1x01-1x03 )

Oh, and in regards to my subject line, does anyone know when The Wire will be starting up again?

Oct. 10th, 2007

Canada rocks! Prison Break? Not so much.

I just feel that I have to chime in on Prison Break happenings, even though I'm not watching it this season. I read this article on tvguide.com, and )

Pushing Daisies 1x02, w/ picspam! )

The caps are uploaded here.

I make my own fun

Last night I was hit with this idea just as I was going to sleep: Nathan Fillion should totally be Liz Lemon's new love interest. And then I wept at the thought of him on Desperate Housewives. Is there any way we can get that show cancelled? C'mon, people, let's make this happen! Because now I have an almost physical neeeeed to see Tina Fey and Nathan Fillion make out.

After quite a bit of investigating I found out today that Long Way Down premieres on October 28 on BBC Two. Less than three weeks to go!

I ordered HIMYM season 2 a few days ago because I realized that they'd actually released it in widescreen! And finding this video ) on YouTube made me realize that I really really want to rewatch season 2. Like, right now.

After only two weeks of the official TV season, I'm already lagging behind. Not that that means I haven't been watching TV, it's just that instead of watching the new shows I finished re-watching 30 Rock (14 episodes) and "finished" re-watching ER by watching season 6 (I'm not interested in revisiting anything past season 6). I also watched some stuff by capping it:

The Office
3x01 Gay Witch Hunt
3x02 The Convention
3x03 The Coup

30 Rock
1x01 Pilot
1x02 The Aftermath
1x03 Blind Date

Dexter
1x01 Dexter
1x02 Crocodile
1x03 Popping Cherry
1x04 Let's Give the Boy a Hand
(Credits)

Grease 2
Kiss Kiss Bang Bang

Yay, capping! It's been way too long.

FNL

I watched the first episode of FNL season 2. )

Yesterday I started a project I've been thinking about for a while now, but have been putting off because it's going to take a while. I'm redoing all the thumbnails for all my caps (all 300 000 of them!), making them 150px instead of 100px. I've redone about 50 000 or so, but I just dread tackling the larger galleries.

Which won't be until next week at the earliest because I'll be driving down to Germany over the weekend.

Bits and bobs

My mother called me earlier and right after I hung up I realized it was my parents' wedding anniversary. They're not big on celebrations (and, in fact, forget it more often than not) so I'm not too bothered. I make a note to call her when I've finished Conan.

I finally call her, wish her a happy anniverary, tell her to wish my dad a happy annivrsary too. It's not until I hung up from that call that I realize that it's their 40th. Custom or not, sick or not, I really feel I should have done something for such a momentous occasion. Now I feel bad.

Amazon.co.uk is having a 4 for 3 sale so I bought a bunch of TV shows (and got the complete series of Tru Calling for free), but when I'd placed my order I was told it'll be delivered in late November. Are they kidding me? Only one DVD set wasn't in stock, and that one had a waiting period of 3-4 days, so I immediately e-mailed customer service.

Looks like I'll be translating the Emmys again this year. Though not alone this time, which THANK GOD, especially after seeing the reactions of my friends list. I gather neither the show nor the award recepients were to people's liking? I haven't even bothered to find out who won.

I finished FNL. )

As I hinted earlier, I've been feeling a bit sick, and even though I felt wretched yesterday I think I got more done than I have in a single day in ages. Well, if you count watching a backlog of TV "getting things done". Fortunately, I DO. And I did put in a full day's work too, so there's that. I also cleaned, shopped for groceries and read fic. Who knew a cold could provide such an energy boost?

Sep. 10th, 2007

Bored now or boring now?

After nearly three days of sloth, I'm feeling very sluggish today. And it's not like work would be a chore since I'm translating Conan with Clive Owen and Alan Alda today, and yet I can't get moving. I spent the morning doing administrative things and have managed to translate something like 50 words on top of that.

And my productivity is not helped by the fact that my Becoming Jane DVD arrived in the mail earlier today. I wanna waaaaatch! /whine

I went to the movies on Saturday. We only meant to catch one movie, but when we arrived at the theater we saw that there was a sneak preview of The Bourne Identity (it's not premiering until this Friday), so we decided on a double feature.

Fracture )

The Bourne Identity was a fun ride, but from what I can recall of the books, it didn't even remotely resemble the last of the trilogy. Actually, aside from the basic premise, I don't think any of them have. Of course, it's been so long since I read them that I may be completely off the mark there. Especially since I think I'm getting them mixed up somewhat with Tom Clancy's oeuvre.

However, Bourne actually prompted me to send a complaint about the translation for the first time ever. I wouldn't have bothered if it wasn't for the fact that the movie hadn't been released, and my complaint might actually prevent the vast majority of the viewing audience to grit their teeth at peppers being translated into pepper, having to see Neil spelled as Neal throughout the entire movie (even in the subtitle translating an on-screen document that clearly reads "Neil") and being told that 1000 yards equals 300 meters, which... No, it really doesn't.

I've rewatched the first half of Friday Night Lights (and I think I'm now caught up to where I stopped watching last season), and... )

I haven't forgotten about the request icons, by the way, I just spent the last couple of weeks overwhelmed by work and when I finally got some time to work on icons I felt like I'd lost my mojo.

Oh, and I keep forgetting to thank whoever sent me the anonymous v-gift, so thank you!

Answers and mockage

All guessed! Answers. )

I've been watching Sex and the City for the past week, and I go through the first two seasons with just the occasional snicker, but then season 3 comes along, and the Fashion Mockage begins! Illustrated! )

Man, Labor Day+Dragon*Con+fall TV season still not underway=LJ being dead, dead, DEAD

Shiny things!

  • Extended Status Bar. I like seeing load times and the like, but this extension takes up at least half the status bar. It wasn't until I remembered an extension that Tissa had recommended that I realized I could keep it.

  • Organize Status Bar. (This is the one that Tissa recommended.) It not only allows you to organize the icons, it allows you to hide them, which is how I can keep the above extension and only see the load time for each page.

  • Favicon Picker 2. Allows you to assign favicons to bookmarks. (You can also use regular images.) I use this mainly for the visible links in the link bar, since the ones I do have are mostly java scripts (more on that further down) and they don't have a favicon.

  • HashColouredTabs+. Color-coding of tabs that have no favicon (or all of them, which can be helpful for those who want to keep their work surfing under wraps).

  • Google Icon. Adds a favicon to Google search results. This one totally doesn't work for me, but I really want it to so I haven't uninstalled it yet. I just don't get why it doesn't work... (Also, this one is symbiotic with Favicon Picker since it gives you the opportunity to save loads of favicons whenever you do a simple search. Or, you know, would, if it actually worked.)

Extensions I've already disabled and will probably uninstall soon:

  • ColorfulTabs. I wanted to be able to assign web sites a certain color permanently, but that wasn't possible AT ALL, so off it goes!

  • Ctrl Tab Preview. I really wanted to like this one (because I hate that the new Firefox - or possibly Tab Mix Plus - tabs through the full-size tabs instead of just going from the one you are at to the one you want), but it turns out I'm way too used to switching tabs to most recent instead of to the right, so it's a goner.

[info]annakovsky linked a page with Java Scripts recently, and though I was sceptical at first, I've come to love them. There's an "append ?style=mine" one that means I could probably remove my Greasemonkey script that shows all pages in my style (ALL pages. Other journals too).

There's also the "up" Java Script, which first removes anything after a question mark (so it works as the reverse of the above script), and after that it goes up a directory.

If you use Simpy, there's also a "Search Simpy Bookmarks" script that you can find on the site.

Of course, the favicons for these are blank, so right now I'm using the JavaScript java cup, but I'm thinking of making favicons with the LJ pen and Simpy's dots on the cup so that I can tell them apart.

Another good part about these JavaScripts? Because I use Foxmarks and these scripts are basically bookmarks, I automatically get them on all my computers without having to redo them for each computer.

Oh, and I realized that under the Options for LJ Hook, there's a "Clones" tab where you can enter the name of LJ clones and the extension becomes usable for those sites as well, so now it works for LJ, IJ, JF and GJ. *g*

I'm buried in work right now, and I have been for over a week, so I haven't had time to even think of opening Photoshop. Hopefully I'll be able to spend some quality time with PS on Friday. Or, if I'm in complete burnout mode after tomorrow, Wednesday. I'd prefer to get everything squared away first though, so work's not looming over me, casting a great big shadow over my happy!day.

Aug. 30th, 2007

See, this is why I love the Brits

Long Way Down is available for pre-order at Amazon before the show has even started airing. I'm gonna hold off on ordering for a while, see if it drops in price. (PotC: AWE dropped three pounds between the time I added it to my wish list to the time I ordered it. Which was five minutes ago. When I also ordered Becoming Jane. I have no will power whatsoever.)

I'm ridiculously behind on my 100 Movies in 2007 thing. I guess having some time while I was on vacation made me gravitate towards TV shows instead, and now I'm having a hard time getting back into the swing of things. That said, I'm watching Zoolander right now.

That Heroes casting spoiler. )

Okay, you guys, what is up with these new moods I'm getting? "*drool*, *thud*, Suicidal, On Top of the World?" Does this mean that all our old mood themes are going to be outdated/have to be redone? Because I love my AD mood theme like burning, but [info]anniesj isn't really around these days and I doubt she's going to update it.

Gone sailing

So, since this is the last time I'll go sailing this year (unless I decide to fly down to the Mediterranean before New Years) I decided to take some pictures. Not that many, but largish, so still not recommended for the faint of heart. )

If I wasn't so tired I'd try to figure out my TV schedule for the fall. CAT has added TDS and TCR and my schedule suddenly looks impossibly full even though the fall season hasn't even started. Of course, I tend to start watching a lot of shows, but then end up with very few by season's end.

In other news, I got Dexter season 1 and Heroes season 1 in the last week, so what am I watching, you ask? Why ER season 1, of course. Duh!

(Earlier today I backed up all my public entries to JournalFen, so I'll be crossposting to that journal now as well.)

Aug. 24th, 2007

ymw!

So, I bought a laptop (and wireless network) today. Sorta spur of the moment. "Sorta", because I'd planned to buy one next week, but I realized that in buying a laptop now I could go sailing this weekend. I install some programs, take it with me and do the work I'd planned to do at home on the boat instead.

And I think I'm ALMOST done. The important stuff is there:

  • Titlevision, aka the program I actually need in order to work.

  • Firefox, which I had to install twice due to my own idiocy. I installed the Swedish version first, and NO. Just NO.

  • Zoom Player. My preferred media player. I love the play list function and the simplicity of it.

  • Semagic. Yeah, hi, I'm still crossposting here.

HOWEVER, the first thing I did was uninstall Norton (GRRR, why would this be automatically installed? So much hate!) and I need an anti-virus program. I know there's one that I've seen linked. Free, three letter combination that starts with an A, I think? Any of this ring a bell?

Also, if anyone has any good links about Vista - such as what sucks, what you should or can change/disable, I'd love to see them.

(P.S. Some of my icons look horrible on this screen. I'm gonna have to find a way to fiddle with the settings.)

Aug. 20th, 2007

Random fandom

I'm not getting comments from my journal emailed right now (at the very least they're delayed for hours), so in case you didn't see, I made some request icons. I may make more from the caps already provided, and I'm leaving the post open for now (if I decide to close requests I'll do the whole strikethrough thing. But not the way LJ did the whole strikethrough thing. Because that way madness lies.)

My Heroes s1 DVDs shipped today. I found this rather surprising, considering the fact that I still haven't gotten a shipment notification for Ugly Betty s1, which is coming out the week before. On Tuesday, to be exact.

And I didn't hear anything about FNL, which is the one I kinda need in order to catch up before season 2 starts.

But hopefully, Dexter s1 will get here tomorrow. I can't wait to rewatch it in DVD quality.

This influx of new vids has gotten the old flist talking, and even made me think about Supernatural )

Some Buffy talk. )
And Avatar too. )

Aug. 16th, 2007

Desperate, much?

I am in desperate need of help to translate something into Norwegian. So, are there any Norwegians out there?

This is what needs to be translated. )

And I feel like I'm in a rut, icon-making wise. I seem to remake the same icons over and over (seriously, how many times have I made this icon? Four times? Five?), so I'm taking icon requests. I only ask that you not spoil me for Avatar (past the first two discs of Book 1), FNL (past episode...11, I think) Carnivale and Deadwood. Other than that, anything goes.

Link as many caps/images as you want (I hope it goes without saying that it should be high-quality). I'll make at least one icon per requestee, but I may make more if I'm inspired. If you'd like specific text or specifically want it blank, please mention that in your comment.

Aug. 13th, 2007

I swear, at this point I thought I was inured to their stupidity

Not so much, as it turns out.

LJ, in all likelihood, reported the two fanartists that were suspended to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children as child pornographers.

I don't even know what to say anymore.

Except that thanks to [info]missmurchison, I've now got a JournalFen account as well.

And speaking of not knowing what to say, I'm drawing a complete blank. I have NOTHING to post about. Guess I'll go watch Entourage instead. Or maybe I'll finish the Dark Angel pilot that I started (re)watching last night. Or maybe some more Avatar? OR! I could finish the second half of FNL that I never finished. Except I figure at this point I may as well wait for the DVDs, which I expect will be 'shipping next week.

Aug. 9th, 2007

movies, mayhem & miscellanea

I just changed my default icon. Now, for some, that's not a big thing, but I rarely change it. I'd had the one I replaced for something like two years, and the one before that for at least one. The reason I change them so rarely is because I have to really like the icon. I don't think I've ever had a default that I haven't already had in use for at least a couple of weeks. Just to be sure.

This icon I just love more and more. Which is strange, because when I made it I wasn't at all sure about it (a sure sign I'll delete it fast. Well, not such a sure sign anymore) and even made two versions of it just in case the black border started to bug me. (It hasn't.)

I really thought that yesterday's post was going to be the fresh start after all this LJ crapola, but LJ's latest "anorexia=just striving to be thin" and "text links are cause for suspension" idiocy has just gotten me riled up again.

Cut, cut, cut! )

Yesterday I watched Blades of Glory. )

Um, I also rewatched P&P again, because apparently I'm incapable of seeing any caps from that movie without rewatching it.

On the TV front, I watched the pilot of Oz, and wow, it was even more depressing than I remembered. I mean, I recognize that it's a quality show, I just don't know if it's a quality show that's for me.

I watched the first two discs of Avatar and so far, so good. There's still the animation factor, but it's engaging enough that I enjoy it nonetheless. Actually, for me it's not so much enjoyment that's a problem, because I do enjoy shows like Futurama and The Simpsons, it's the investment. I just don't get invested in animated characters. I don't know if Avatar will change that, but so far it's never happened, not even in animated movies that I watched as a child.

Can the asshats please stand up?

Cutting for those who are sick of Boldthrough '07. Which I assume is the majority. )

I couldn't get anything done today because the only thing that's engrossing enough to forget the above is making icons. So that's what I did. I needed to do a bunch of other stuff, but no cigar. The icons are uploaded here, as per usual. Though if you want to use the animated Colbert icon on InsaneJournal, this 92 kb version looks much nicer. Otherwise, I'm in a very Buffy mood lately, it seems. I like it! Maybe I should take this opportunity to do that rewatch I've been thinking of? =)

My (by now) regular Oh, LJ, WHAT ARE YOU DOING?! update

So, LJ is once again pissing off the Harry Potter fandom. And if you want to target a fandom, lord knows that's the one that's going to get you the least amount of attention and trouble. /sarcasm

Last time, I really didn't think they would enforce their newly updated rules unless they were backed into a corner, but I was wrong. I think it's pretty obvious that they're cleaning up their site in order to make it look more appealing to investors/buyers.

So, with this in mind, I've decided that I'm going to start cross-posting to my InsaneJournal, which I prefer for completely superficial reasons. )

I've got a problem, though. I'm a moron and can't figure out how to add another user to Semagic. I know how to change the server setting so I can access IJ, but I don't know how to add it as a separate account. I'm assuming this can be done? I guess it wouldn't be a hardship to do it manually considering how rarely I post, but I'd really like to have it automated if possible.

As for fan-run journaling sites... )

I've watched a lot of TV. Mostly just general impressions of Bionic Woman, Sarah Connor Chronicles, Jane Hall, Damages. )
